2012 Time for Change: Stan Grof

Grof discusses with Daniel how psychedelics helped him create an expanded cartography for the psyche, with a new emphasis on what he calls the "perinatal" and transpersonal consciousness. Stanislav Grof, M.D., Ph.D., is a psychiatrist with over forty years experience of research into non-ordinary states of consciousness (induced by psychedelic substances and various non-drug techniques) and one of the founders and chief theoreticians of transpersonal psychology. 

The full-length film "2012 Time for Change", premiered last month in San Francisco at the Lumiere-Landmark.  It projects a radical alternative to apocalyptic doom and gloom. Directed by Emmy Award nominee Joao Amorim, the film follows journalist Daniel Pinchbeck, author of the bestselling 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, on a quest for a new paradigm that integrates the archaic wisdom of tribal cultures with the scientific method.

Stan Grof's concept of psychological development hinges on the "perinatal" (the birth process and surrounding events) not "paranatal."

  • What a beautiful man and a great opportunity for you Daniel. He didn't say no to 2012 and he didn't say yes. He seems to be saying we will define it not the Mayans. If that is true we are so screwed. However, he said there were things going on at other levels which certainly gives us pause to beg for light. Boundaries are negotiable. Time is the enemy. Excellent interview! Too bad about your camera man though... shot under poor conditions... nonetheless: very worthy. I hope Stan the Man lives to see it with us.

Transforming Your Veiw

He speaks well of the ability for someone to connect, or rather become connected to all things, to imagine things as they really are. I don't think the psychedelics are completely necessary as a divine ingredient for one to reach a mystical perspective. Obviously they create that separation from our learned experience, but the connection still must be carried daily and developed. It can't be mastered on LSD or anything else, it would be out of balance and I fear many would misperceive the journey. Good under the right circumstance though, Im sure.

Stan Grof has done great service to help expand our understanding of conciousness, and gain a better insight into the spiritual. My evolving project would arguably go way beyond his research, and those of others if it were fully developed. Drugs to manipulate ones consciousness...

I came here from Yahoo Answers, where I have been for about six years, answering questions in 'philosophy' and 'psychology'. But the level is going down more and more. Due to this silly point and voting system, the place seems to be the playground for bored teenager. So I am looking for a better place and came here to 'Reality Sandwich'.

My first impression is, that this place is the playground for some intellectual 'nearly enlightened' people, who are with the help of psychedelics, are trying to go beyond their limits...

It is surprising, that it seems to be unknown that any kind of manipulation is just another trick to stay in ones illusion and only serve to give oneself some excitement and a new way to feel ones precious personality existence...

I didn't come here to be informed about shoes, so I flagged seven comments, but that's not really what I want to do here... I have some doubts now, if this here is a place for my writings. Maybe some one can have a look and give me an advice. Just go to: http://falconblanco.com
