In this clip from this year's Ayahuasca Monologues in Boston, RS Contributing Editor and "Fishers of Men: The Gospel of an Ayahuasca Vision Quest" author Adam Elenbaas tells a hilarious yet deeply healing tale from the spirit vine. Adam tells of an accidental confrontation with his Grandfather while taking psychedelics on his elder relative's back forty acres--an episode similar to one his father had years earlier. The strange generational encounter is finally understood when Adam takes Ayahuasca in the Amazon jungle only months later. When Elenbaas returns and shares the healing stories with his father the medicine vine begins to work its way back up the family tree in the most profound of ways.

"Fishers of Men" was named one of the top 100 books of 2010 by Publishers Weekly.

:) OM Gam Ganapatayai Namaha , the mantra for removing all obstacles, including within families, let us all be free together, this story makes fundamental sense, absolutely . The older generation does have this demon, I witnessed it being transmitted even to the dog of my grandfather WHO ONLY WANTS TO PLAY, and NOTHING ELSE until she collapses, and yet what is his spirit ? Service, kindness but also the demon of frowning, working, exerting too much, enforcing drinks of water ( poisoned to the core, the tap is killing them, yet they find reason to argue with me instead of , hopefully , get a water distiller ) --- even when one is without thirst . this evil spirit has go to go. Work a little bit, be deeply rewarded for it, have a lluxurious living, work a little bit. Raise our wages , minimum wage to be in relation to a wealthy lifestyle, think about it, 3-4 hours of work a day , MAX is more valuable than 9 to 5 , which destroys the working class. Why is there a sculpture of a demon inside a briefcase at the denver airport ? because that's what the people are being ruled by... coffee. Coffee is a demon, be careful with it, it can ruin your life and create a never ending sea of argumentations, conflicts, and being on edge about having to 'stand up " for your freedom. Let is invoke the mantra energies which transcend any religion, to bathe in cosmic energies of assistance, so that we may create heaven on earth. Ganesha for all around victory and success, Lakshmi for wealth and attaining to a higher unified field of service , as well as family comforts..... Gayatri for everything, the energy of the sun. You people are too eager for psychedelic tools, and yet a mantra is a psychedelic tool. :)

Adam,

What an incredible story. I too live in a family where the male generations thrive off constant labor. I believe it to be an ideology that very deeply rooted within them, intrinsic and almost unidentifiable to them at this point- they are left only to find comfort and peace in the chaos of the working world, not in the love and light that their family or mother gaya gives to them. I wish my father was open to have an experience with the great medicine of Ayahausca, I am not sure what else could possibly purge this behavior from him at this point. Thank you again for your enlightening tale, I look forward to reading more of your material soon.

So touching Adam! And I can so relate to you. My whole father's side is very conservative evangelical Christian. It has been such a struggle. My mother's side (much smaller) is very agnostic and liberal. I feel as if I have been torn between two worlds my whole life. Lots of medical people and military in my family. Actually, I don't know where to begin... There is so much to say. I'm 36, and have just finished Daniel Pinchbeck's 2012 book, and finally find an author whom I can really identify with, perhaps even a church if you want to call Reality Sandwich that. I want to re-read the whole book, and write my response, perhaps in the form of another book! There is so much promise in his message, and yet so much dire opposition in the world. Perhaps this will make for a kind of intellectual warfare which becomes ridiculous and evokes laughter and the turning of swords into ploughs? In a way, I think I have some very negative experiences--worse than what a lot of trippers have gone through. I still struggle at times with negative energies. I'm even compelled to go through a fearless ahayuasca session and reveal my glossalalia if the state should come upon me. However, in the presence of healers, I think I would probably go into a trance and channel some kind of message. At this point in my life, I'm ready to devote myself fully to writing. I want to tell of my misfortunes in a healing way, but also of my great hopes for the future. I would be willing to donate most if not all of the proceeds of my work to Reality Sandwich. I too am finally healing from a great struggle with my father. Keep up the good love! M

To clarify, I wanted to say there is more promise I think than perhaps he realizes in grassroots movements, perhaps in philanthropic social networking technology, etc. Yet there are people who directly or indirectly work for the powers that be that will be anticipating such work and devising contingency plans. Feminism, protection for women and children and animals, and the radical philosophies of the 20the century evolved in the worst period of human history. Alas, to think I once thought of the sixties as a sad historical phenomenon. The seeds were sown then. Now they have sprouted, and moreover grown much taller! Perhaps Kali is already retreating, back into the great depths, and those who relied upon her for their savagery find themselves on lower ground. The hippies long exiled return upon their antiquated yachts, now festooned with gilded trophies of yore, and the masses feel a wave of earthly relaxation...why?, they think, suppress that which haunted them for fear of the state? The generals under whose command you could not move an inch have retreated into quiet and content oblivion. Only the savage last stand of the ruthless remain, themselves of questionable loyalty!!! With peace-stained hearts, the impermeable innocence of the sacrificed are remembered...as they return to keep us company on our new campaign. The Great One returns, sending the penultimate condition of humankind in a message that is one with the tantra of Christ, for which we realize the false tantras--the illusory Forms, limited in number, always finite, now revealed. Now revealed at last after the destruction. The destruction has occurred, now the revealing must take place. It is. It is self-arising. Behold. Quetzalcoatl.
