Biographical

I'm a freelance writer/editor/public-relater,recently arrived in New York City after many years in Chattanooga, Tennessee. While still earning a living by doing things that inspire people to pay me, I'mtrying to shrink the difference between my playing and working selves. (I guessHomo Ludens struck a chord when I had to read it as a college freshman. ThoughI don't do enough of it, play has been a pole star for me ever since.) Usingyoga (physical and otherwise) and bodywork to fully inhabit my body is also abig focus. After 19 years in one place, my wife and I sold our house, car and mostof our stuff and relocated to NYC in 2010. As a long-time hoarder of paperproducts with words and pictures on them, the divesting needed to shrink ourworldly goods from a house-and-attic's worth to a small apartment's worth hasbeen alternately liberating and painful, but always instructive. Previousfull-time employment included technical writing and marketing communications inthe insurance industry and publicizing Chattanooga's downtown revitalizationand sustainable development. Current writing interests include cities, urbandesign, yoga and southeast Native American art. I'm working on several writingprojects and a novel that is intended to be what Alan Moore describes as the "sparkgap between word and world" that combusts me into a different state. Not yetsure if that means I'll end up powering some kind of vehicle larger than myself, but one thing at a time.
