Biographical
I
I'm a writer interesting in language, memory, and the natural world, and how these things orbit and entail each other in human living. I've written a couple of books: Library, an Unquiet History (Norton 2003) and Widener, Biography of a Library (Harvard 2004). I'm working on another book for Norton--a sentimental and natural history of writing.
My wife and I have two children and a rescued greyhound. We live in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. I spend a lot of time on my bicycle, and I grew up following streams through the woods.
Interests
Water, chlorophyll, glacial erratics, music, language, running, microscopic life, migrations.
