Biographical
Born and grew up in Newark, New Jersey's Central Ward ghetto in 1936, of Jewish ancestry. Received his B.A. in History from New York University (summa cum laude, phi beta kappa), with minors in Political Science and French. Taub chose not to return to Harvard University School of Law from a two-year leave of absence. Instead he went to the Sorbonne (University of Paris) to earn a certificate to teach French anywhere but in France.
In the years that followed, Taub lived and worked in a variety of cities and countries for periods of from one to three years each: Los Angeles, Paris, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Israel, India, Katmandu, New York, Munich, and Australia. The two years he spent in India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka in the mid-sixties were mainly devoted to studying and practicing Hindu and Buddhist practices. He eventually settled in Tokyo, where he has lived for 30 of the last 37 years. There he worked as an ESL instructor, free-lance translator from Swedish, Hebrew, German, and Japanese to English, and as a narrator of commercial films. He feels comfortable -- often uncomfortable -- in ten languages.
In the early 1970s, he collaborated with his Japanese partner at the time, Sawako Takagi, a co-founder of the Japanese radical feminist movement, on Femintern Press, a feminist publishing project. He later co-authored Multinational Sex, one of the first books exposing the ins and outs of sex tourism.
Larry's book, The Spiritual Imperative: Sex, Age, and the Last Caste, presents his macrohistorical discoveries and predicts future trends based on them. He has published articles on the subject, presented related papers at conferences, has been interviewed on radio and television, and has successfully predicted unexpected trends and events since the late 1970s. The book is also available in Spanish from Trafford Publishing Co., translated by Martha Trujillo of Colombia, and the Japanese edition of the book has been a popular seller since it was published by Diamond-sha in December, 2007. (Spanish title: El Imperativo Espiritual: Sexo, Edad y la Ultima Casta. Japanese title: Mittsu no genri: Sekksu, Nenrei, Shakai-kaiso ga mirai o tsukiugokasu)
Larry is a member of the World Futures Studies Federation since 1997. He is currently always on the road promoting the book and is without a fixed abode, but spends at least three months a year back home in Tokyo recuperating. Despite this, he dislikes traveling and writing, but will talk about his ideas at the slightest encouragement. Though still single and childless, he is not gay.
