Time for An Upgrade

Welcome. Bruchim Ha’bayim, as they say where I come from. I am charged with developing Moses 2.0. What is that? I hear you ask. Well I’ll tell you….
A computer program is a set of instructions that are followed by a machine in order to make it exhibit a specific set of behaviors or perform specific functions. Once any 1.0 program has been in use for a while it is a good idea to review the functionality; what works, what doesn’t, what should be dropped, what should be enhanced and what should be added. It’s best to talk with the user base and understand why they use the program and what they would like to see different in it.
Well here’s the thing: Moses 1.0 – best known as the "5 Books of Moses" – are a set of instructions that are followed by the machine we call society. These instructions are meant to cause that machine to exhibit a set of desirable behaviors and functions. Now, Moses 1.0 has been around for a while and no one is even sure who the original developers were. Some believe it was the group that now does voting machines, Good Old Diebold (GOD for short). Others think it was just a group of hackers.
We do know that usage is dropping off. If we want to reinvigorate the market and position ourselves to get bought by Google, we are going to have to take a good, close look at what is going on. We need to ask: what will make the product more appealing to today’s more sophisticated user base? While we are at it, we can re-engineer for the new hardware standards. We can assume ubiquitous adoption of broadband and plumbing, always connected devises, and of course refrigerators.
As product manager for the Moses 2.0 project, I am charged with writing the business requirements, functional specifications and some of the high level use cases for the project. We will do a complete competitive analysis with some of the main competition such as, the Mohamed beta (it’s been out there for a while but it still seems to be a little buggy), Buddhism Version 62.3 (these guys really know how to re-invent their system to be appealing to their users) and, of course, Jesus 2.0 (it’s amazing how they resurrected that one after we all thought it was dead).
It’s vital that you, the user base, let me know what you think. What features do you use a lot? Which ones do you think are just old and boring? Are there features that you’ve seen in other systems that you think we should add?
Give me your feedback and I’ll send you drafts of sections of the project docs as I develop them.
I look forward to working with you.

moshe 2.0
like most indigenous creation stories, mosaic 1.0 is "original instructions," for specific people living in a specific bioregion. it's not really meant to be used by others. but i found a horrible translation in my hotel room in winnemucca once, so i guess we need to deal with the fact that this one's going to be used incorrectly.
see gershon winkler (www.walkingstick.org) and shefa gold (www.rabbishefagold.com) for ways to access the spirit of the instructions that is too often suppressed by the form.
homework: what indigenous creation story was developed in the bioregion where you live? who created it and what's your relationship with them?
What I use, What I would use
I try and extract values out of the literature and law. Modesty, honesty, love for thy neighbor, charity, etc. Obviously the explicit laws don't apply to the lifestyle I was born into. I do not observe general traditions such as dietary laws, daily prayer, observance of holidays, abstinence before marriage, etc.
I'm not sure what other's think, but I would be excited if instead of distilling the bible into vagueries, we didn't shy away from specifics. Us user's of Moses 1.0 have progressed some millenia since our ancestors, but we still require the same guidance.
Example's of this could include vegetarianism, in respect for the consciouness' of animals, but also in respect for the energy relief it provides from producing meats.
Respect for the guidance of secular, unbalanced(not-neocon affiliated!), and progressive sciences.
Complete support for any sexual preference and oriantation.
This list could go on for a long time, I hope I've helped!
