I'd rather see more of this:

I'd love to see more critical analysis of the system than I am seeing in a lot of areas. Mostly the solutions I see people talking about are all based on the flawed premise that the solution is for "us" to be in charge of printing money, or for "us" the be the politicians, or for "us" to be the CEO's.Granted most alternative currencies are not that far sighted, but I see it as symptomatic of a certain kind of thinking.

You can't fix a car by switching the driver, and while I'm certainly all in favor of citizens taking charge of their communities I'd love for part of that to include decisions like whether our failing system is worth saving or emulating.

I think I agree

The increasing trend of monetization is undesirable, no matter what currency you use. If the people of your community provide value to each other, slapping a currency on top of that is just redundant. It adds a layer of ulterior motive, which always detracts from the enjoyment and effectiveness of the actual work.

But is there also strength in having a global currency? Surely there are some things (ie. metal production) that cannot heppen in every little community, so don't we need a means of exchanging value with those outside?
