Magnetic Breach

NASA's latest exploration reveals "a breach in Earth's magnetic field ten times larger than anything previously thought to exist." Five space probes from the THEMIS mission (time history of events and macroscale interactions during substorms) flew through the opening and recorded "a torrent of solar wind particles streaming into the magnetosphere, signaling an event of unexpected size and importance." The opening was created by magnetic reconnection, when terrestrial and solar magnetic fields press against each other and crack open the magnetosphere. In this case, the conduits of solar wind from Earth's North and South Poles overlapped at the equator to create this unprecedented breach.
While the solar winds don't necessarily trigger geomagnetic storms themselves, they do load the magnetic field with plasma, which is linked to the auroras, power outages, and satellite disturbances that directly affect us. The Solar Storm Watch could become more important as we enter Solar Cycle 24, during which it is more likely that solar winds will load the magnetosphere with plasma just before a geomagnetic storm. According to space physicists, this increase in solar winds and plasma levels could create "the perfect sequence for a really big event," possibly stronger storms that are more disruptive of satellite activity and power supply.

Uh oh
weee dogs! Maybe we had better batten down the hatches...
and play nice with the Sun.
Geomagnetic fields and ESP
2012
The magnetosphere protects the planet from deadly solar radiation, lets hope that this breach doesn't load up the magnetosphere with solar energy and cause it to short out. Astronauts know how risky it is to boldly travel beyond the magentosphere. Solar experts say that most solar flares occur around sun spots. Solar flares produce the dangerous radiation. The next solar maxium cycle #24; for those that don't know occurs in the year 2012. Thats peak sun spot activity. More sun spots = more solar flares. The NASA forecast for Solar cycle #24 is 50% more sun spots than average. The Mayan prediction for 2012 is rebirth.
Never mind the black outs, comm loss, earthquakes and volcanoes that are all linked to solar weather. It's the radiation that scares me.
Hummmm?
yikes!
I'm with you about radiation - yikes! Brings to mind nuclear war, but we can't be diplomatic with the Sun, i.e. ask it nicely not to push the button!!

blah blah 2012 blah blah.... =)
Yes, the various and sundry theories and interpretations of the 2012 phenomenon contradict each other so much that one is usually left in a muddled state; if one really looks at them all, rather than picking one's favorite prophet and sticking with his/her story.
I think it likely that something will happen...there do appear to be an amazing number of things that are lining up. But I think it is silly -- perhaps even dangerous -- to get too set on what we think is going to go down.
It is possible that what occurs won't be any of these things we keep hearing about...and we might miss it when it doesn't jive with how we thought it was 'supposed to happen'.

Enlightenment..... ^_^
Well, I believe Enlightenment is a Path; not a destination. =)
The so-called Zen state of so-called Enlightened persons comes from their full and final understanding of the fact that they are on a Path, and that the scenery always changes (frequently with painful transition periods)...and no longer denying this, railing against it, and/or simply thrashing about in the Wilderness.
There is an old Taoist saying, "Still trying to stand up in the River."
Some interpret this as meaning, "Still trying to follow the Tao, inspite of the world making it hard." This is a good interpretation, and I have no problems with it. It can be hard to follow the Tao (Source), when Te (manifestation) is so much more immediate.
I have a different intrepretation, however; best illustrated by a Taoist parable I once heard from a friend. I have no idea of the original source of this story:
The Great Philosopher Kon Fu Xe (Confucious) walked with one of his advisors upon a path beside a Great River. The Water was swift, deep, and it foamed and boiled at the base of large Rocks.
The two were deep in conversation, when the advisor's face turned suddenly pale, and he pointed out to the River. Turning to look, Kon fu Xe was alarmed to see an old man floating quickly down stream, right in the middle of the hurtling flood!
Quickly, being a compassionate man, Kon Fu Xe ran towards the River, fetching a long branch as he hurried towards the shore, to a Rock which overhung the white Water. He thrust the long stick at the ancient looking man; but the oldster simply waved, a gleeful smile beaming from his face!
Again, Kon Fu Xe ran down the shoreline till he came to another overhanging place, and again he offered the branch to the floating man...and, again, the old man simply smiled, and waved.
And now it was too late: The water came to a great Fall, and they saw -- for the briefest of moments -- the silhouette of the man as he flew a bit out into space...and then plummetted into the Pool below.
Kon Fu Xe and his advisor went down the Hill to find the old man's body, that he might at least have a proper interment.
As they came into view of the Pool, however, they saw -- to their surprise -- the old man joyously sporting in the Water. He was making great splashes, and sucking in Water to act like a spout! Such a wonderful time he appeared to be having!
The two would-be rescuers came slowly to the shore, bewildered by what they saw; and cautious now. Surely this man was a great Wizard, to have traversed in safety a River so mighty...and still have the energy to sport about in such a childish manner!
"Sir!" Kon Fu Xe called, after a few moments, "Sir! Please, are you well?" Perhaps the man was insane, he reasoned.
"Well indeed, brother!" The old man called. He splashed a young robin, and laughed at its noises of protest as the fledgling flew away.
"Such a strong River, Sir...you are lucky to be alive!" Kon Fu Xe called back, "Why didn't you take our stick, when we offered to save you? There are many Rocks in the Water, and swift is the stream!"
The old man laughed. He called back, and in his voice was a Song: "Ah, yes, in Truth it is so: But where the Rocks, are the Water knows...I just Trust in It; and Follow where It goes!"

Reboot ^_~
To paraphrase an old saying: Those who do not remember the mistakes of their past will make them again in the present. ^_^
Indeed, I have felt the same vibrations you speak of. My will becomes stronger, my understandings more explicit, and my drive to actualize ever-increasing. Like I am being prepared.
This is evidence, however subjective, of something big about to happen (at the least, in my own life). As long as it is presented in humbleness -- and taken with a grain of salt -- I think subjective evidence is valuable. It becomes more valuable (and less subjective) the more persons that experience something similar.
Perhaps Society is about to collapse into the screaming Void. Or perhaps we as a species (or at least community) are about to transition to a new phase, like water into vapor; and begin to actively create this new world we envision.
Perhaps all of the above: Either way, we certainly live in interesting times.

Previous pole shift?
Not to fan the flames of speculation, but I found this article to be very interesting:
http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2007-06/uoc--adt060807.php
Summary:
A great number of the dinosaur skeletons uncovered were in a "dead bird"/ death throws position (spine arched back, mouth open, etc), which would suggest that they died in a great deal of pain related to the central nervous system.
The article suggests that perhaps it is related to bacteria but... so many dinos found this way? What exactly does a "pole shift" do to the body? I don't know enough about the magnetosphere or the radiation around the earth but it does beg the question, how bad could such a thing be on the external/physical level, or "third dimension"?
Pole shift theories
Well, our bodies do have their own electromagnetic fields; because they operate on electrical principles. I would imagine we have evolved to fit the current orientation of Earth's magnetic field.
So, potentially, it could be pretty bad. I don't know that I have ever seen a study on what exactly happens when human beings are immersed in a powerful magnetic field opposite to what we are used to. Maybe nothing happens (looking into MRI technology might yield some answers here).
I have heard speculation ranging from bad headaches all-round; to memory wipe of every living thing on the planet; to your suggestion in the comment above.
Much of it depends, likely, on the cause of the pole-shift. Some speculate that the dynamo at the Earth's center will, after a period of fluctuation and chaos, begin moving in a new direction (this is supposedly caused by everything from a natural, regular occurrence; to underground nuclear testing; or testing of the HAARP system). The change in direction of motion would change the polarities.
Others suggest that the alignment of the Earth's tilt with other planets and the galactic center (on, you guessed it, Dec. 21, 2012) will actually place enough of a gravitic imbalance on one side to -- with the already-present tilt -- cause the crust of the Earth itself to move around the mantle, changing the positions of the continents in relation to the current polarity (some say this will happen because our theoretical companion star, a brown-dwarf sometimes known as Nemesis, and its orbiting planet popularly called Nibiru, will pass by and cause more or less the same thing...and bring aliens, too!).
In the mineral record (which is how they know these shifts have happened before) this would look like a pole-shift...but is actually a continental shift.
If the latter is the case, then it probably will have little to no effect...as we move ourselves in relation to the current polarity all the time (although having the continents shift position with any real speed won't be fun either). If it is the former...well, who knows? As I said, I have seen no studies on the topic of opposite-direction magnetic fields on the human physiology.
There is some evidence to show that the magnetic field is already in a state of flux. But, as you can see, there is a large disparity in theory and interpretation here as well. What it boils down to, in my opinion, is: keep your eyes open -- but understand that no one really knows what the heck they are talking about when it comes to these issues.
This is all still extremely theoretical; and little-understood.
