Stopping for Health

On Sunday, September 14, The Walk to Prevent Walking aims to put an end to walkathons by starting a holistic "health revolution" in Thompkins Square, NYC.  The event will encourage a conscious community to do something pro-active and positive for their health. This will be a day of rest and relaxation, exercise, and eating well, featuring music, yoga, healthy snacks, meditation, dancing and speakers.

The event's organizers see preventative holistic healthcare, not the walkathon, as the best response to chronic disease in our culture. According to the Center for American Progress, in its 2006 Report: "The U.S. is plagued by preventable diseases that have a devastating impact on health and contribute to the nation's soaring health care costs.  Proven preventive services remain largely unused, and the promotion of healthy communities and lifestyles is undervalued… About 70 percent of deaths and costs in the U.S. are attributable to chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer – diseases that can be prevented."

The event is free and runs from 11am to 7pm.  Reality Sandwich is proud to be a media sponsor of this event.
