Stepping It Up a Notch
Adam Beavers
Celebrate a greener tomorrow at StepItUp, a day-long event pushing for environmental change in San Francisco. On Saturday November 3 from 12 to 3 PM at the UN Plaza/Civic Center, local and state politicians will pledge their support for climate action with those participating in the festival. Alongside all the fun activities, serious issues will be discussed regarding the state of California’s environment policy including a moratorium on coal and nuclear plants, cutting carbon by 80 percent by 2050 and creating five million “green” jobs by 2015.
PLAN-IT Hardware will unveil their Toxic Awareness Resource Map, highlighting local hardware stores that carry green home and garden supplies. They will also talk about toxins in the home and ways to avoid using them.
Three events are scheduled for the day:
1) Blue it Up! - Show how you want those skies both clean and blue by donning your funky & fly blue threads.
2) Bike it Up! - Come to Dolores Park and “pimp your ride”. Bike to the UN Plaza, with an entourage of electric & bio-based cars in tow. Show how much fun non-petrol transport can be. Continue tossing out fossil fuels at the Conscious Carnival.
3) Art it Up! - Join the "Recycle That!" Art installation by showcasing your reclaimed or natural art at UN Plaza. Babies to burners… all are encouraged.
RSVP at the StepItUp website if you plan on attending.
