Gabriel Gray of Datura

A note from Gabriel Gray:  So as some of you may know, I play guitar.  I’ll say that a little bit more appropriately… what I DO, is play guitar, and my hope is that when you hear me, you will heartily agree that this is What Gabriel Stranahan Does!  I’m gonna be playing some old songs and some new songs, some with vocals and some straight instrumental, some blues, some folk, some songs that, to me, are too ‘in between’ for me to properly say.  You’ve heard me with Datura. Some of you have heard me with the Strangers on the Footpath. This will actually be the first time in history for me to play a show on my own, just my voice and my six strings, so if I don’t see some friendly faces there I will get very anxious and I might puke on stage and end up going home with a laundry bill where I could’ve gone home with a smile.  So, just fucking be there, OK?!? It’s all that I ask in the whole world, on that particular day, anyway : )  This is a free show!! I would encourage some of you to give a donation, because if you don’t, they might get grumpy and start bothering people about money. So throw an old dog a bone, even if that bone is just a buck or two!  Or don’t, it is no skin off of my ass.  Or, even better, just give all of your money directly to me! I’ll put it to good use, pinky promise!  Also I feel very inclined to say, a friend of mine by the name of Olivia will be performing solo at Goodbye Blue Monday this same day at around 5pm! I would love if some of you would come with me to see her play and then you can follow me straight to the Yippie Cafe. You’ll catch two shows in one evenin. Good plan, ya? Ya!  I love you all and I’ll see ya there.

Steamy Dance Party with Gemini & Scorpio

A Steamy Dance Party at the Russian Baths.  Break out your bikini or swim trunks, and join our hand-picked crowd of artsy, funky (and nearly naked) New Yorkers for the glorious return of Gemini & Scorpio’s legendary Russian Baths party.  We will have the newly remodeled & sparkling clean baths to ourselves, with a few hand-picked professionals on hand for the optional platzas and massages. Our longtime favorite DJ Joro-Boro, former resident DJ of the infamous Mehanata (Bulgarian Bar), will keep the dance floor sizzling with his hot EthnoMesh Megalophonia mix while we dole out free pierogies for everyone. Tarot mistress Courtney Weber will read your fortunes. There will be an open vodka bar 10-11pm.  “Best (and Only) Russian-bathhouse Dance Party” - Village Voice “Best of 2006. “A night of steamy fun” — TimeOutNY “Your Perfect Weekend” pick. “Epic” — Brooklyn Based.  Only 100 tix on presale; 50 more at door. Chaos Brigade

The concept is none other than having a replica of the Carnival of Venice, a beautiful parade that dates back as far as the 1200’s. In this parade, the participants are fully disguised, the costumes are up to the costume wearer, the only requirement is the Mask, so typical of this event. What we would to is show up in full venetian regalia in St. Marks (venice carnival begins in St. Mark’s Square) and spread out through the downtown area around Little Italy, then the entire ‘parade’ itself can reconvene three evenings for the weekend and stop at things, like rocky horror, personality crisis, performances, etc. The dates would be around the same as the carnival in Venice and it would last through out the weekend.  This Antician Event is brought to you by Questionable Antics

== Transmutation ==

Presented by Winkel & Baltick.  They never dissapoint.  21+

The Story: It was the end of the Aughts. Winkel & Balktick meditated upon the last decade’s irrational exuberance and its booms, busts, bursts and bubbles. While the present situation seemed dire, they knew that with the right experiment, they could transform the debut of the Tens from a bleak lump of coal into a brilliant Golden Age.  They returned to their laboratory in Brooklyn, determined to concoct the perfect panacea for ringing in the new decade. On Thursday, December 31st, 2009, prepare yourself for a grand demonstration of their alchemy.  Join them as they transmute a dusty old warehouse into a clandestine celebration laboratory. Participate in the boldest experiments in dancing, DJs, interactive art installations, lounging, activities, games, elixirs, cuisine and merrymaking.  The laboratory, The Philosopher’s Stone, is a chamber of the most majestic proportions. It sits perched upon the East River on the shores of Sunset Park, Brooklyn. It lies within the Industry City, a historic terminal complex that was once the largest integrated manufacturing, storage, shipping and transportation facility in the world.  The Music:  Elemental audio DJs exhibiting the finest in house, techno, breaks & dubstep…(in order of appearance) Reza fans the flames to get the dancefloor inferno started; friar tuck rings in the new year with a bass explosion; doug singer throws more bubbling beats into the cauldron; steve b conjures a bone-shaking dubstep travelogue; david last wobbles us into 2010’s first sunrise; delirious downtempo and ambient labscapes by… (In no particular order); autophage + prototype, creepy hugs, futureben & hobotrail.  What to do if you want to attend:  To receive the secret warehouse location in the days leading up to New Year’s Eve, please RSVP here or purchase advance tickets.  In the Summer of 2009, Winkel & Balktick docked their pleasurecraft at a long-neglected pier just below Red Hook and found themselves in the midst of a sprawling industrial estate. They quickly realized that it was the perfect home for their grand bacchanals.  The laboratory, The Philosopher’s Stone, is a chamber of the most majestic proportions. Its 26,000 square feet are divided into two vast workshops. It sits perched upon the East River on the shores of Sunset Park, Brooklyn within the Industry City complex. The N, R, D and M trains at 36th St are one avenue and two blocks from the building’s entrance.  Industry City is a historic complex of massive warehouse and factory buildings, piers and endless rail lines that was once the largest industrial park in the world. Between 1892 and 1925, building after building was constructed until the terminal spanned more than 20 blocks, covering 200 acres and featuring 263,740 window panes. you must by tickets in advance
