Sound From the Heart

An Evening of Overtone Singing Meditations Baird Hersey & Prana. Prana is a Sanskrit word meaning: breath, vital energy, life force. It is the perfect name for a group who uses only their breath to make sound to relax the body, still the mind and open the heart. Prana is a nine voice, a cappella, overtone singing choir. Their sound is a unique mixture of western vocal music and the musics of Tibet, Mongolia and India. Applying the ancient traditional techniques of multiphonic chant, and throat singing to the natural singing voice, they each sing two mellifluous pitches at once, creating beautiful rising harmonies, shimmering vocal textures, and high arcing melodies. Proceeds go to Animal Mukti, a free spay and neuter clinic serving the cats and dogs of New York City.

A Gathering of Healers and Peacemakers

In ancient time, dim in human memory, a man, born of a virgin, appeared on Onondaga Lake in a white stone boat. At the shore, he announced he was a Messenger sent by Creator to end war and killing. Hiawatha, an Onondaga, became The Peacemaker’s spokesman. Together, they taught all people the Path of Peace. At Onondaga Lake, The Peacemaker, Jikohnsaseh and Hiawatha united Five Nations in a Confederacy, symbolized by The Tree of Peace. Onondaga Nation is the heart of this Confederacy, keeper of the-fire-that-never-dies. Sunday September 7th, will mark the fifth annual Onondaga Lake Peace Festival. Beginning at the opening ceremony and throughout the festival, people may offer a personal prayer for peace in the Water Prayer Sanctuary. The Festival concludes with a water blessing ceremony at sunset on the lakeshore. Peace Pilgrims then canoe from Onondaga Lake east down the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers to The United Nations in New York City for the International Day of Peace. These Peace Pilgrims will carry Festival prayer water to the Atlantic Ocean. Anyone with a concern to bring peace and healing to our planet is invited to participate. We are the spiritual energy thousands of times stronger than nuclear power. Our energy is the combined will of all people with the Spirit of the Natural World, to be of one body, one heart, one mind for peace. -Leon Shenandoah Onondaga Nation

Grub

(and the first and third Sunday of each month) GRUB a community dinner. Come early or stay late if you want to help. We start cooking around 3:30pm. Watch First the Dishes Then the Revolution by Jeff Stark. Come early or stay late if you want to help. We start cooking around 3:30pm. This dinner is not hosted by In Our Hearts but we still recommend it. A cheap, simple dinner for strangers and co-conspirators. We are a small group of people who do a lot of other things in New York, like decorate subways and throw parties in the streets. At Grub we’re just offering dinner. Whether you are active in other collectives, your neighborhood, your backyard garden, or just new to town, we invite you to our table. To get a little squishy, we are looking for practical ways to build community. We are particularly inspired by weekly dinners served at squats in Amsterdam in Berlin, where you can get a cheap, tasty meal and catch up with friends in a cozy room. We like parties as much as anyone, but we think there should be places to talk without a pounding sound system. We are not gourmands nor fancy cooks; we offer simple food simply prepared. We will only be able to serve 40 people, first come first serve. There will be plates for vegans and vegetarians alike. Please come early and hang out. Pay what you want, bring your own booze.

Join us as we learn about Eric’s case, entrapment, the use of informants, and government repression in general. Unfortunately, these tools of the state are becoming more and more prevalent, and it’s imperative that people understand how they work. We want to ensure that people learn what they can from Eric’s experiences these past 2 ½ years. We will have Eric McDavid support shirts for sale in a variety of colors (see image above) and sizes if you would like a t-shirt email inourhearts@gmail.com.
