Can’t Stop the Serenity - A Rooftop Screening

Hosted by Gemini & Scorpio.  A rooftop screening of Joss Whedon’s (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse) space-western “Serenity,”  to benefit Equality Now, an international women’s rights advocacy group and Whedon’s favorite charity.  ”Serenity” is based on the short-lived but much-loved sci-fi series “Firefly.” Set 500 years in the future, it follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a “Firefly-class” spaceship. The core of the crew fought on the losing side of a civil war, and now make a (largely illegal) living on the fringes of society–and the star system–on the outer planets that refused to join the monolithic Alliance, which had won the war. The film, with its ragged Wild-West-meets-sci-fi settings and memorable cast of gunslinging outlaw spacefarers cursing in Chinese, has won multiple awards and become a cult favorite since its release in 2005.

PR Workshop - Connecting in the Age of Information Overload

Sponsors: Neighborhood Energy Network, Sierra Club NYC What do you do when everything is moving faster and faster and you are on total overload?  1 - Get as clear as you can about what you need to say, and 2 - Be specific and targeted in your outreach.   We are all networked, so each good connection you make can be a pathway to a new group of people.   In this experimental workshop you will:  Hone your message, and practice delivering it to others one-on-one, in small groups and in random, unexpected situations - just like real life.  We may be sick of words like message points, pitching, and networking, but life is sales and that doesn’t change for idealists and activists.  In fact it’s more important than ever because you’re more important than ever.  This highly successful 3-hour workshop uses and then moves past the basics of media relations, as participants learn to use the fundamentals of communication to develop non-traditional partnerships and projects. The workshop incorporates real-life problem solving and brainstorming sessions. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and participate.

Seed Saving - True Food Security with Ken Greene

Every seed has a story. Whether grown by native peoples or brought from abroad by immigrants, heirloom vegetables, herbs and flowers that we eat, savor, and enjoy come with unique genetic and social histories. Through slides and hands-on activities we will discover the stories behind New York heirlooms and discuss the modern day importance of preserving the genetic diversity they hold. Our discussion will take us from the dawn of agriculture to modern food politics.  Ken Green is co-founder of Hudson Valley Seed Library, a small seed company that produces organically grown seed and fosters a regional seed-saving community.  Check the schedule in the lobby for room. This event is listed under Easton Mtn Center.

T h e R e S u r f a c i n g ® Wo r k s h o p

Discover true inner alchemy.  Do you have patterns in your life that keep coming up that you’d prefer not to experience again?  Do you want to feel in the driver’s seat of your thoughts?  Beliefs are very powerful and giving them a tweak can profoundly change your life for the better.  Discover the source of those beliefs through Avatar.  Beliefs, Reality, Consciousness Section I of The Avatar Course sets forth certain ideas about the relationship between beliefs and reality. These ideas are subjected to various tests and examinations (in group discussions and in private explorations) to allow you to determine for yourself if such relationships do, in fact, exist.  Section I exercises take you behind the scenes of consciousness for a look at the blueprints by which you build your life. The journey results in an intimate connection with a deeper, more compassionate and aware state of self.  Section I is offered in an affordable 2-day workshop that contains information, demonstrations, and experiential exercises to awaken you to the unlimited possibilities of living deliberately.  For questions or to register, contact Laura Marini at 917 689 8037.

Liberation Ecology Project:

We face a daunting set of problems, as both our society and our environment seem to be in serious trouble.
And all too often, our quest for sustainability is hampered by a lack of understanding of the social reality we work in. At the same time, our work for healthy communities is weakened by a lack of connection with vibrant, abundant landscapes. Can we do things differently? YES, WE CAN. From June 14 - 18, the Ecology of Transformation workshop will help participants connect cutting-edge ecological design with holistic social strategies.http://www.earthdance.net/seedsfest.htm
