Sacred Chant Concert with Snatum Kaur

Concert, chantfest, musical group meditation, a yoga class in melody...how best to describe a live performance by Snatum Kaur and her band?  It’s all of these things and more.  Cystalline and radiant, Snatum’s voice is redolent of the simple yet powerful truth of the heart.  Snatam’s divinely melodic songs based on traditional Sikh mantras are augmented by simple, heartfelt English verses that express the meanings these sacred syllables hold and help the audience forge their own emotional connection.  Snatam is ably supported by devotional music stalwart GuruGanesha Singh, who handles the guitar with effortless grace, slipping easily between chordal rhythms and mellifluous leads.

Exploring the Three Paths to Enlightenment with Mary Elizabeth Lynch

Ancient traditions of spiritual development point to three distinct pathways to enlightenment. This mini-workshop will explore modern applications of three equally valuable approaches: The Path of Renunciation, the Path of Perfection, and the Path of the Poison Pill (also know as the Path of Transformation). You will learn the essence of each pathway and which one best fits your own temperament and style. The workshop can be especially helpful in showing you alternative pathways when you find that you have gotten stuck or stagnant with your personal growth.

Transforming Your Wounds Into Your Wisdom with Mary Elizabeth Lynch - ONE  DAY WORKSHOP

We are all touched by wounds from the past – traumas, failures and disappointments whose lingering effects can seem to weigh us down.  But what if those heavy memories were actual the means for accessing a deeper wisdom about our own spirituality?  This one-day workshop explores that very promise.  What has been a stumbling block can in fact, as the Cayce readings put it, become a stepping-stone to your enlightenment.

You will have the chance to experience how your personal spiritual ideal is a powerful ally for reframing wounds from the past.  It allows you to creatively transform sorrows and resentments.  It allows you to use your wounds as windows into soulful wisdom about who you really are and how you can move with grace and understanding through the new challenges and difficulties that life brings your way.

Lighthouse Hill Tour & Tibetan Center - Finding Shangri-La Mini Retreat

This is a unique experience as it offers a glimpse at a diverse collection of ecologically diversified areas and cultural points of interest located on Lighthouse Hill in Staten Island.  One point of interest on the walking tour will be the Jacques Marchais Center of Tibetan Art, the  first example of Himalayan-style architecture in the United States and the largest collection of Tibetan art outside of Tibet. The center currently has a display featuring the 8 Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism. There is a Mini-Day Retreat taking place this day at the center from 3pm until 5pm - Finding Shangri-La: The Lost Horizon - How do our everyday thoughts, works and actions create our life and what are some simple techniques to create that idyllic path within. We will also be looking for late spring and early summer wildflowers and plants sprouting, including some of the season’s edible and medicinal plants. The area is also known for its population of white tailed deer, birds, turtles, and snakes.  For more information, please see links below or call 347. 359.8094.

Reverend Billy

Performance artist and evangelist Reverend Billy shifts his focus from the evils of consumerism to the crisis facing planet Earth. Anchored by a spirited mixture of original gospel music, Reverend Billy's impassioned sermons, and the sainting of activists and provocateurs, The Church of Earthalujah delivers an experience that is part theater piece, part church service and wholly inspirational! The Church transcends parody in favor of a passionate humanism that speaks to growing public anxiety in the face of ever-deadlier climate catastrophes and impotent leadership from politicians, NGOs and corporate CEOs.   History waits on us to save ourselves. The Earth seems to be moving on, full of heat and flood and fury. Two people who show us the way are Antrim Caskey and Mike Roselle from Climate Ground Zero in West Virginia. Their opposition to Mountaintop Removal from their home-base in Coal River Valley can be an inspiration to each of us in our homes, at work, and out in the politics of public space.

Hatha Yoga with Bijoy George

"Begin the day with love, spend the day with love, fill the day with love, end the day with love. That is the way to God.”

This is the relaxation and Meditation lullaby that ends the Yoga class under Swami BuaJi, who founded the Indo-American Yoga Vedanta Society in New York 45 year ago, and brought the practice of Hatha Yoga to America. SwamiJi lived well beyond the age of 100 years and the only yoga master who has been conferred with the title “Master of Hatha Yoga “(M.H.Y.) by Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh. He has traveled extensively throughout the world including Iran, Europe, Canada, Panama, and Brazil teaching and lecturing the philosophy of Yoga.  SwamiJi was a Personal Guru to his students and considers them part of his family. He often cooked and shared food with the students and helped them with their problems and even performed or attended their weddings. Bijoy’s style of teaching Yoga starts with remembering his Guru and leading a chant of an auspicious Mantra followed by the practice of a Mudra and PranaYama breathing. The yoga session consists of a unique series created by SwamiJi starting with “Surya Namaskar” (Sun Salutation) followed by Asanas. The class ends with a Relaxation and Meditation Prayer of SwamiJi.

A Warrior’s Stance, Stalking Awareness wiith Irma StarSpirit Woman

5 week series: Wednesday, June 8, 15, 22, 29; July 6

In Toltec medicine there are gifted people who are stalkers and those who are dreamers, and some people turn out to work both these medicines.  They become masters of their natural gifts and are able to foresee and awaken and find information needed to provide insight to help others and themselves.  In the Toltec tradition we begin to learn how to stalk energy, reclaim our energy by self empowering techniques, using recapitulation, shape-shifting and shadow work.  We will learn how to clear karma from petty tyrants in our life, and past traumas.  Healing techniques as repairing our luminous cocoon with the Glow of Awareness, by patching up the holes in our body and removing psychic imprints, as we step and trace back to the gateway of the void, beyond space and time, to remember our true being, the true self.

Mastery of transformation as we heal, journey, recapitulate, dance, find our power song, and working with inner power and take our warrior’s stance.  Let us meet in the temple of remembrance and find the profound realizations, emotional releases during this leap into the abyss to find our true souls radiance that shines into eternity.

Sacred Summertime Circle Dances

Brought to you by The Dancing Path™ Dances to Celebrate Summer n& the Fullness of Life w/Dance Therapist Nada Khodlova.  You are invited to celebrate the summer by dancing in community- traditional Balkan, Greek, Romanian, Armenian, and near Eastern Sacred Circle Dances. Throughout all ages and cultures, traditional circle dances were used to honor the divine, to heal, to affirm connection to the earth, each other, to build community and celebrate rites of passages and life transitions. The danced patterns illuminate the web of these connections. It is where personal and universal healing can occur.  We will use the traditional dances as a platform for heightening awareness of body/self, self to community and self to cosmos. We will examine the dances on multiple levels to indulge in these connections. The expressive and improvisational aspects of Dance/Movement Therapy will support further exploration such as sensations, images, feelings and stories in order to deepen and expand our experience. We will also have the opportunity to celebrate the summer in free expressive dance as well.  We will be celebrating the suns energy in our own lives as did the ancients. Our dances will reconnect us into this ancient way of honoring the earth’s rhythms. As we are experiencing the warm, fuller power of the sun, we can express the outward joy in the fullness of life and the richness of our worldly blessings. We will seek not only guidance from the dances but from those who created these dances, the ancestors of the dances. The wisdom of the ancient ones are held within the dances. As we attentively dance and plug into this wisdom we reweave ourselves into the time honored web of life.  The dances are joyful, meditative, full of beauty, longing, life and celebration!  Advance Reg is recommended!
