Evolver NYC Spore: Food for Thought
In the last fifty years, the meteoric rise of agribusiness has
wreaked havoc upon our global food supply. Corporate entities like
Monsanto and Cargill are wiping out agricultural diversity with
monoculture crops, bankrupting small farmers with unsustainable
practices, toxifying our waterways with pesticides and fertilizers,
treating animals cruelly, and endangering the web of life with
genetically modified foods.
But a growing movement is striking back and taking action to maintain our food security in the 21st Century. These “greenhorns” are creating CSAs, tending rooftop gardens, building aquaponic systems, learning permaculture principles, starting Transition Towns and eco-villages, urban homesteading, saving seed varieties, and practicing slow food ethics to ensure agricultural sustainability. In this Spore, we will, explore and discuss the alternative food networks cropping up in our local communities, as well the importance of nutrition in our lives. We may look at current FDA dietary recommendations and contrast them with the rising interest in organic/live foods, ayurvedic diets, superfoods, healing herbs, and more.
Speakers will include :-Stacey Antine (Founder & CEO of Health Barn USA- which provides hands-on, healthy-lifestyle education for children and their families.)
www.healthbarnusa.com-Helene Finizio (An Intuitive life coach from the Institute for Spirituality and the Mind at the University of Pennsylvania)
www.helenefinizio.com. As well as a sound-meditation lead by :-Outside Mind (Elliot Edge- “Outside mind simply refers to being without thought. That is simple idea of meditation–lowering the signal to noise ratio.”)
(8p – 11p, usually around $5-10)

Symposium: Awakening the Dreamer-Changing the Dream
A Crisis of Small Thinking: How Can We Create a Sustainable World for Future Generations? At a time of mounting global crises, most of us would admit that this is not the world we envisioned passing on as our legacy to future generations; but the challenges to change course can feel overwhelming. To bring a bold new vision of a sustainable, fulfilling, and just world, theAwakening the Dreamer-Changing the Dream Symposium returns to Genesis Farm for the sixth time on Saturday, October 17. Using videos that draw on the experience and wisdom of some of the world’s most respected thinkers, as well as inspiring short films, leading edge information and lively group interaction, the Symposium allows participants to gain new insights into the very nature of this time—and the opportunity we have to shape the direction of our world with our everyday choices and actions. Since its creation four years ago by the San Francisco-based Pachamama Alliance, the Symposium has spread to five continents as well as the United Nations and is offered in 5 languages. Come join us and leave inspired, connected, and motivated to join the unprecedented uprising of millions around the world who are thinking and working “outside the box” to effect the changes that can create the legacy we truly yearn to leave future generations. How much of reality do we actually see? October 18th Alan Steinfeld and NewRealities
Get an inside view of NewRealities with founder Alan Steinfeld as he talks about: How much of reality do we actually see? How much of it is invisible to us? What is the obvious unobvious? What can we do to see more? Join Alan on an investigation into perception and how new pieces of ‘in-formation’ such as crop circles open our minds to experience a whole new level of reality. He believes that the geometrical forms are being taken into our nervous systems visually and encoding us with new neural pathways that open our minds to new ways of thinking and experiencing. He will share the history of the phenomena from the late 1980s to the very present, like the 600 ft. Jellyfish formation that appeared in England in May of 2009. Join Alan and Joseph-Mark on tour of the Crop circles in 2010. Email: mailto:email@example.com

Beyond Hard Times: The Art of Transforming Our lives with Mirabai Bush
This inspiring series of talks will delve into how to tap into our innate wisdom to change our experiences by making conscious choices in how we handle challenges. We’ll hear personal stories, engage in discussion, and learn practices for managing anxiety and fear and finding clarity in the present—even in these exceptionally uncertain times. We don’t need to be victims of circumstance; we can use difficult circumstances to grow, using courage, insight and humor. The evening will weave together practices and stories with dialogue and questions to help us see more clearly into our present situation, develop kindness, let go of fear and communicate a transformed story. Bokara Legendre, artist, writer and TV host, will share stories from her explorations in the far corners of the world to heal body and heart, and Mirabai Bush, who has taught meditation to unlikely students from Google engineers to Army chaplains and medics, will lead the practices.
