Sacred Sanctuary

The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors closed its doors to its New York City location with the close of the year.  For four years it was the city’s home for reflection and “events encouraging the creative spirit.”  Soon, fans and friends will be able to enter through the looking glass of Alex and Allyson Grey’s shared vision.  CoSM has just announced the purchase of a 40-acre campus, formerly home to an interfaith retreat center.

Just 65 miles up the Hudson River, a 20 minute walk from the New Hamburg MetroNorth, CoSM Sanctuary will provide a sacred space for the collective and individual pursuits of visionary artists, musicians, dancers, scientists, and teachers.  A new sacred geometric crystal gridwork embedded in the land will provide the perfect setting for spiritual gatherings.  Visitors can experience meditative space in the sun-filled galleries and libraries.

Because much of the upkeep on the original estate has fallen into disrepair, CoSM Sanctuary has many volunteer opportunities to bring back its lifeforce.  The Sacred Mirrors will be housed in a brick carriage house until the permanent chapel is built.  The conference building will host art, meditation, and yoga classes.  Out in the woods, a cabin will be converted into a studio for artists in residence.  The main house, a gorgeous wood-frame Victorian structure, needs perhaps the most renovation, including weatherproofing and conversion neceassary for energy efficiency.  Once accomplished, inexpensive nightly lodging and dining will be available for up to 100 guests.

The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors is a 501(c)(3) organization, supported solely by donations from the community, which are deductible on income and estate taxes. Financial contributions and skilled volunteers are needed. An estimated two million dollars is required for renovation. There are tens of thousands of fans of Alex Grey and the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, just ten dollars from each can add up quickly.

Those wishing to donate can do so here or here.

Those wishing to donate time and skill should get in touch with the CoSM volunteer coordinator

Farewell

Listening to Alex Grey speak about his artwork was a life-altering experience for me. I will miss the old space but am very excited about the potential of this new artistic portal. I wonder if there isn't some notable symbolism in CoSM moving away from the big city?
