Ron Paul Wants to "Legalize It"

The first marijuana decriminalization bill in 25 years has just been introduced to Congress courtesy of Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) and Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA). If passed, the “Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults Act of 2008” would make it legal to possess up to 3.5 ounces (100 grams) for personal use, and allow not-for-profit transfers of up to one ounce between consenting adults. Supporting the bill by petitioning local representatives can quickly and easily be done through the Drug Policy Alliance Action Center.

The introduction of the bill comes at the same time as a New York Times article stating that the United States is currently leading the world in prison populations, with roughly 2.3 million behind bars (China, with four times the U.S. population, comes a distant second with 1.6 million prisoners). Though the extraordinarily large U.S. prison population is a complex issue and the product of various factors, the drug laws undoubtedly contribute to it.

While some feel it is unlikely the “Personal Use of Marijuana Act” will become law just yet, support of it will help lobbyists to identify the members of Congress who advocate marijuana decriminalization. Gathering like-minded support is the first step to make changes in the current laws.

Ron Paul has been fighting

Ron Paul has been fighting for the causes such as the good, the true and the beautiful for 30 years. Every cybernetically and psychedelically informed American should working their asses off towards having someone as intelligent, aware, open-minded, compassionate and shrewd as Dr. Paul in the seat of the presidency. There are millions of people just like us being locked up and stolen from their families for using cannabis and entheogens RIGHT NOW. Innocent families are being slaughtered because of the Oil War as we speak and USAns still have the AUDACITY to support the disgusting, privately funded election hoax between pro-war candidate number 1 (Obama), pro-war war candidate number 2 (Clinton). As the previous poster said: Let's do this.

We're ready

i feel the US is ready to take this step and that hopefully we can set a good example so that other countries will follow. MARIJUANA FOR EVERYONE!

excellent news

it just shouldn't matter either way though... i mean it's a stinking flower. when are people going to wake up and realize that outlawing a flower is insane?

Marijuana is one of humankind's oldest cultivated crops and fundamental in our technology, medicine, and a holy sacrament amongst Hindus, Rastas, and Ancient Scythians to name a few. Prohibition violates freedom of religion as guaranteed in the constitution of USA, I guess we are really only free to be non-smoking cultural stereotypes.

it still blows my mind how warped the views are about what are considered drugs. how can it be that two of the most destructive and unhealthy drugs in the world are legal and continually shilled on the TV box, meanwhile a plant that when smoked makes you calm and kind is still illegal with no substantive scientific evidence against it? i speak, of course, of alcohol and tobacco. it just... blows my mind.

this movement needs intelligent, articulate people in the forefront to demonstrate to the gov't that not all users are "potheads".

another thing that might help is to site the vast array of uses that hemp is capable of. it could easily replace cotton textiles and wood-based paper with plenty of plant matter left over for other uses. a great book on the subject is called "the emperor wears no clothes". check it out

Don't mention this. This is why it was made illegal in the first place.
