Redrock Redemption

photography.jpg

The auction of Utah's beautiful Redrock lands is taking place on December 19th. Over 300,000 acres of wilderness are being sold to the highest bidder (including oil and gas speculators).

The Redrock area includes vistas like Canyonlands, Arches National Parks, and Dinosaur National Monumnet. The plan to sell off leases for the land was advanced on election day this year.

How Much is this Land Going For?

Maybe this is naive... But is that land is worth more to bad guys than the rest of us? How come, given the sheer amount of people with sizeable resources (many of them good I would suppose), do the bad guys always win the bidding?

I hear of so many people risking their lives to save a redwood or a whale, or pets in a fire...  is there nobody wealthy (individually or collectively) willing to open up a bank account to save something of countless value to our planet? Just a thought.

antie up f##ker...

No. people who actually use the land cannot afford to buy the land because they are heartfelt people who see past the illusion of living in a society dominated buy interest rates and the crumbling control used by people who genuinely believe jobs are more important then nature... See that is why poor people established a governement that is supposed to regulate the slave owners that the corporate money mongers have turned into... AND, if enough people write people like Dirk Kempthorne, Secretary of the Interior, their congress person, and others, we are able to protect these lands with regulations and laws that still have precedence over the dollar. So unless you can buy the land, go to these sites and tell the people above us that they are important to us. It is just a couple of clicks and you're done... The history of people who lived there for hundreds of years, hundreds of years ago is still evident and fragile, and there is so much to learn there that cannot be done having to navigate well fields, fences, heavy equipment, and excvation... http://act.npca.org/campaign/BLM_2 or, http://www.nrdconline.org/campaign/stop_wilderness_giveaway/ or, http://www.blackmesawatercoalition.org/resources.html Please please help poor people preserve sacred places...

Democracy Now!

FYI-I caught a segment on Democracy Now! where Amy Goodman interviewed Tim DeChristopher (a Utah college student) who posed as a bidder, snuck into the auction and subverted it by becoming the highest bidder for 22,000 acres. Apparently he is now facing jail time. Visit this link to read his story: http://www.democracynow.org/2008/12/22/posing_as_a_bidder_utah_student Can we band together in solidarity behind this brave soul and create an RS petition of support? Let's keep a close eye on his story as it develops and see exactly what they plan to charge him with! Preserve.Protect.Proclaim! LH
