The Next Age, Here and Now

You've dreamed of it, yearned for it, and now it's finally here! The first Reality Sandwich anthology, Toward 2012: Perspectives on the Next Age (Tarcher/Penguin), will soon be rocking the shelves of bookstores near you. The anthology features many of your favorite contributors and articles covering a diverse array of topics, from shamanism to orgasm, sustainability to xenolinguistics. It makes for a great post-holiday gift - for yourself, for your mom, and for fellow aspiring evolvers.
Over the last year, a number of you have sent us notes, asking how you could help support Reality Sandwich. One great way to do that is to pre-order the anthology and ask others to do the same. The official pub date for Toward 2012 is December 26. If we have good sales early on, we get on the radar of bookstores and the larger distributors, and may pick up some media coverage as well. If the transformational community rallies to support us, we have a chance of making bestseller lists, which would bring the book to the attention of many people who have not considered these kinds of ideas before. Of course, you can pre-order from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Powell's Books. The best option is to order the anthology at your independent local shop and see if they'll stock a few extra copies while you’re at it.
Upcoming Readings:
Reality Sandwich is coming to a city near you! Join us for a night of celebration, conversations, and community bonding as RS contributors read from our first anthology. Invite friends, spread the word, and will the transformation in your area. Date and details below:
Brooklyn, NY: Ken Jordan, Charles Eisenstein, Steven Taylor, and Jill Ettinger at Spoonbil & Sugartown, 218 Bedford St. Wed, April
8, 7pm.
More about the Book:
Here's what the cover jacket says about the book:
"This fresh and thought-provoking anthology draws together some of today’s most celebrated visionaries, thinkers, and pioneers in the field of evolving consciousness— exploring topics from shamanism to urban homesteading, the legacy of Carlos Castaneda to Mayan predictions for the year 2012, and new paths in direct political action and human sexuality.
Toward 2012 highlights some of the most challenging, intelligent pieces published on the acclaimed website Reality Sandwich. It is coedited by Daniel Pinchbeck, the preeminent voice on 2012, and online pioneer Ken Jordan, and features original works from Stanislav Grof, John Major Jenkins, and Paul D. Miller (DJ Spooky); interviews with Abbie Hoffman and artist Alex Grey; and a new introduction by Pinchbeck.
Here are ideas that trace the arc of our evolution in consciousness, lifestyles, and communities as we draw closer to a moment in time that portends ways of living that are different from anything we have expected or experienced."

Perfect! Now for the well made DVD to go along?
Those Post Modern Times clips would be a good start. Daniel I want you to know I sent my parents your "Present of Presence" article and they really enjoyed it, especially the self-reliance bit - it reminded them of people coming together after natural disasters 200 years ago.
Your openness and positivity distinguishes you from the people who focus on the negative, conspiratorial aspects of everything, and turns a lot of people off. When they see that stuff they intuitively cringe at the separation, hopelessness and despair, and so deny it or become paralyzed by it.
The conspiracy stuff opened me up to a whole new world of questioning, and has lead me here to all this 2012/conciousness stuff, but it may not be the best path for a lot of older, mainstream people. It's certainly very hard integrating it all and seeing that it's all part of the growth of creation.
So keep it up! I look forward to the book but even more this evolver network to connect with people and work on real projects.
Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening the circle of understanding and compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. - Albert Einstein

No doubt whatsoever now about December 2012 being significant
I have already purchased the new 2012 book, although it has not yet arrived in the mail to Australia.
There seems to be no doubt now that the end of 2012 will be a very significant time indeed: not just because it represents the end of an ancient Mayan Long Count calendar, but also because the ongoing significance of that calendar was confirmed twice during the summer of 2008 by new crop pictures near Avebury in southern England: see www.cropcircleconnector.com/2008/aveburymanor/aveburymanor2008a.html or www.cropcircleconnector.com/2008/aveburymanor2/aveburymanor2008b.html.
Their first picture on July 15, 2007 showed our nine-planet solar system fairly accurately for a near-future date of December 23, 2012. So many people visited that first picture, that an irritated farmer cut its beautiful central "Sun" into an ugly rectangle a few days later.
Then on July 22, 2007, our paranormal friends "repaired" part of the farmer's damage, reconverting their central Sun back into a somewhat larger round shape, while adding another set of beautiful images elsewhere in the same field.
Their second set of images seems to future-predict a bright comet for December 13, 2012, just before the Mayan Long Count calendar ends. They used the Sun's location along the ecliptic to specify a date of December 13, while also adding symbols for various Babylonian constellations: the serpent, snail, etc. which will surround the Sun on that day.
Yes, the end of 2012 will be very significant: we have it directly from the horse's mouth! Or should I say Quetzalcoatl?

I got mine at Barnes and Noble and they had two whole shelves loaded with the books. Which is awesome! I just started reading it and so, far so, good. :) I wouldn't have known about this website if it weren't for the book.

BOSTON
Boston Would Be Great...
... but we'd need a venue -- ideally an independent bookstore. We could gather a few NY-based contributors to the book and drive up (as it turned out, none of the writers in the book are currently in Boston -- which was why it wasn't on our original list). If someone has a contact at an appropriate venue, please ping Jonathan Phillips; he can be reached at jonathan (at) realitysandwich dot com. It'd be great to make something happen in New England.
LOVED IT
I anxiously awaited the book after rereading 2012 and Breaking Open the Head a couple times. Then bought it as soon as it arrived. I told the Barnes & Noble peeps to order more and they did. Whole stack of em. :)
It's a fantastic compilation and I'm encouraging friends to read it. And to come to the site.I second the call to LOS ANGELES!! I'm closer to San Diego but would absolutely make the drive if you guys made it down here to SoCal!
Great work, RS crew and I look forward to continuing to be an active member of the RS community.
Cheers
New Orleans?
If you want to do a book signing at the Maple Street Book Shop in New Orleans, that would be grand! let me know.
I'm reading the book now and am loving it.

Atlanta Reading
Hi furiouspoet. Thanks for checking out the anthology. I just wanted to make sure you knew Daniel isn't "skipping" the Atlanta reading. What happened is Tarcher only set up a few cities to fly/drive him to, which didn't include Atlanta. However, the regional RS coordinaters are doing such a fabulous and inspiring job that they've set up a reading all on their own for the local community to enjoy. It's a home-grown night and I'm sure will be lots of fun.
Atlanta Reading
Please don't think I'm ungrateful for all the hard work the Atlanta RS coordinators have done to field this event on their own.
I just asked because it seems that Atlanta, for a city of its size, and diverse community, is frequently overlooked by publishing houses, public relation firms, and perhaps the authors themselves when it comes to tours like this.
I do thank each of you for your contribution to "Toward 2012," as my wife and I loved each of the essays and the thoughts they provided us. I am looking forward to this event, regardless of who reads, but I did want to ask my question about Daniel's schedule.
Thank you for your relpy!

Answer to your question
Roger, I'm the community director of Evolver/RS and have been in charge of coordinating speakers for the readings, so naturally I answered the question.
But the good news is that Daniel should be heading for Atlanta to speak at and celebrate our first ever EvolverFest.
