Psychedemia in Philadelphia

Psychedemia is an academic conference hosted at the University of Pennsylvania from September 27-30, 2012. By incorporating research and visionary art into current models of psychedelic culture, this conference captures the state of the state for psychedelics in Western culture.

Bringing together university scholars and professionals, Psychedemia will promote a discussion about how the increasing visibility and exploration of psychedelic experiences will influence greater culture. Together, this conference is poised to explore varied perspectives of a significant issue: as the psychedelic renaissance increases its momentum, it is vital to consider the impact of altered states of consciousness and the means by which they are produced, from interdisciplinary and critical perspectives.

Be sure to stop by the Evolver/ Reality Sandwich table at the event to say hello and check out our books. Also, don't miss Evolver co-founder and The Electric Jesus author Jonathan Talat Phillips give his talk "Warrior Healing: New Perspectives on Health Through the Santo Daime."

For 37 years, Phillips suffered from depression and anxiety. As prescription benzodiazepines and antidepressants proved ineffective, he turned to the Santo Daime church, a Brazilian based “ayahuasca mystery school” that specialized in healing illnesses like his. In this unique discussion, Phillips will share healing methods of the Santo Daime that helped him “illuminate” his inner demons and reclaim his life.
