Our Neverending Story

Dr. Roger Penrose, a physicist at Oxford University, has uncovered evidence that suggests the Universe has always existed, undergoing a continuous process of death and renewal. His work contrasts the oft-accepted theory of the Universe birthing from nothingness.
Analyzing a wave of cosmic radiation frozen early in our Universe’s timeline, Penrose found “fossil traces” of black holes that could've existed during our Universe's previous life. He believes the rapid uniformity of matter after creation is a result of past cycles having been left as an imprint.
Penrose theorizes that matter will eventually break itself down into black holes, once again reducing space to “zero size and high uniformity,” the perceived state which followed the “Big Bang.” If the universe exists through an infinite number of reincarnations, as Penrose suggests, one can only wonder about the corresponding limitlessness and cycles of the active imagination.

Hindu cosmology
This is very similar to what the Hindus believe. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindu_cycle_of_the_universe
Hinduism is the only ancient belief system with cosmic time scales similar to our modern scientific understanding. Carl Sagan mentioned this in an episode of "Cosmos", but concluded that it was surely a coincidence. But was it?
It's somewhat mind-boggling to think that Hindu mystics could have discovered fundamental facts about the universe purely with their minds. It makes me think that modern cosmologists, astronomers and physicists need to incorporate meditation, yoga and other mystical practices into their science!
