Nuclear's Winter

nuke-200.jpg

Climatologist Joe Romm recently testified before congress regarding the future of nuclear energy.  His testimony frames nuclear power as too costly, compared to the accelartion of cheap wind and solar.  He concedes that while it's still too early to write off nuclear altogether, greener alternatives are looking like the better investment.

seems to be fission out but there's still some con-fusion

if fusion ever becomes viable, the concept of fuel all but disappears, power then becomes more or less limitless and distribution, isolation and environmental impact become the chief concerns. The time between the discovery of fission and its useful application and between fission bombs and fusion bombs was extremely brief and although controlled fusion seems to be a difficult problem the resources applied have been very small. One small breakthrough could change everything.
