MR: What's your personal mantra?

JS: Very simply.....Live life to the fullest. I use my energy towards enjoying myself and creating artwork that inspires others.

What does the role of Artist mean to you?

To inspire and opens peoples minds to things they would normally not think about. Also to have passion and energy towards what I do.

What is the driving force behind your creativity?

I enjoy simplicity and complexity. I love to use paper with my artwork because it is a simple and common material, yet it can be transformed into such an intricate sculpture. I also love microscopic forms, color, and mystery (things we have not yet discovered or don't know much about).

What transformative experiences have influenced your life and how has that manifested in your work?

Growing up in Miami and experiencing all the different plants and animals probably had an impact on my love of color and layers. Also I tried to take whatever materials I could afford and making something out of it without feeling restricted by what I didn't have.

How long does it take you on average to complete a piece of work, and do you ever do several pieces simultaneously?

It typically takes me about 3 days to a week to complete a sculpture. I do work on different pieces simultaneously...especially if they are multiples of one idea. I also enjoy working back and forth on different sculptures and drawings so I don't get tired of one medium.

Why should people check out your work?

To realize the potential of simple and common materials.....there are no boundaries. I believe it can be a great source of inspiration for others.

How does your work affect Consciousness, and what are your views on the evolution of consciousness?

I think with new ideas our consciousness expands a bit more and our minds evolve. Hopefully my work will enable people to open their minds so that they are able to envision and discover new ideas. I am hopeful and open to the idea of evolving our consciousness.

Very cool.

I think this work is fascinating! Very simple, elegant- I really like the approach. I wonder about the physical process of putting something together like this- I imagine you would cut directly into the ream of paper in rolled up form, but I might be in error and you could very well be brilliant enough to cut the wholes individually on the unrolled sheet and conceive of how they'll line up in advance?

Awesome

Looks very awesome, but is it actually 3d or a 2d picture on the cilinder fooling my brain? :P

Agreed

I totally agree more.. its almost head spinning.. 2d or 3d! If you look at it too much you will always change your mind! Absolutely love it! Speeding Fines Loft Conversion Companies
