So Below: Taylor on Taylor

Born in 1971, from Rising Sun. MD, BA from Washington & Lee University in 1993. My photography skills are mostly self-taught, or basics learned from community college classes I took during HS.

I made the move to NYC in 1995, making a few big breaks that year. First was publishing of a 3 yr. photojournalism project about fraternity hazing in the NY Times Sunday Magazine, and getting hired by MTV to travel the world with Dennis Rodman, documenting his then-massive celebrity for one of the first reality-based television series.

I honed my signature documentary style working with up-and-comers Phish and Dave Matthews Band, continuing the relationships to this day, and working with countless other touring musical acts. Eventually this experience parlayed itself into record packaging, publicity, and merchandise commissions from most of the major and indie labels around NYC.

In addition to this nonstop music work, I have also tried to keep at least one foot in the door of photojournalism, shooting countless magazine assignments, and stills for numerous music videos and IMAX films. A perfect mix of these two disciplines has been my 5-year relationship with the Bonnaroo and Vegoose music festivals. These events are similar in spirit to the massive European festivals, and provide an amazing and challenging outlet for my work.

Quote: I'd rather be lucky than good.
