Web Prophecy

The Web Bot Project is an internet technology that makes future predictions based on complex analysis and filtering of linguistic data collected by monitoring web chatter. It was first created to predict the movement of stock markets, however, after the Millennium it began to produce poetic phrases and ideograms that related to major world events.
So far the Web Bot’s forecasts have been remarkably accurate, predicting the attacks on 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the New England power outage of 2002, and even the most recent stock market crash. The Web Bot has apparently linked together a string of escalating world events leading up to and culminating on the winter solstice in 2012.
The Web Bot’s creators think of its expressions as art, and its method is still being refined. If it does prove accurate and reliable, this technology may reveal insights into our understanding of the future, the internet, global consciousness, 2012, and how all these things might be interconnected.

Measure conciousness, predict the future?
I've been getting their reports for a while and they do have a pretty good record, especially with the timing of the recent stock plunge starting Oct. 7th, but I've found they've exaggerated or have been early on this economic deterioration. Of course part of the problem is that most people are unaware of just how bad it is because of the media/government efforts at pacifying the American TV watching mainstream, and so there is a lag time until people realize what they're up against.
And I would argue we're up against ourselves. The distractions of trivial consumption and entertainment are slowly losing grip on people's awareness. We're now confronting our deepest problems and fears, namely the long held belief that we are separate individuals living in a chaotic, meaningless world, where we have no impact on, nor are part of something greater. We fear that we are responsible for being the creators that we are. The world isn't as it is, the world is as you are.
Terrence Mckenna explains:
"We have this intuition of purpose, and it is dramatically underscored by the psycadelic experience, which takes the raw material of your life, your culture, your history, and tells you this is not an existential mish mash to be lived out with dignity because there's nothing else to be done with it, some kind of Camusian why not affirmation. It says no, it says you know, your reality is a coherent cosmos, and embedded in your sense of identity, embedded in your sense of purpose, is a microscopic reflection of the larger purpose that is built into the universe."
As seen in the precognition experiments by Dean Radin, which the web bots are loosely based on, it seems the future is known/sensed at a deeper level, but also it is altered/produced by consciousness, especially with focused intent. Any thoughts on that one?
Here is his paper describing some precog experiments:http://www.boundaryinstitute.org/articles/timereversed.pdf
My thoughts on that one =)

It might be as simple as the old formulation of being able to intuit the end-result of our current actions...but if we begin to act in a new way, the old predictions become invalid, and we create a new future for ourselves.
Anyway, I believe we are all connected to (and indeed are a finite piece of) the Infinite-That-Which-Is (what we experience as Consciousness-As-Such). If that is the case, then it would seem logical that we would get flashes of insight regarding what might come next...and that we could focus intent to create something different.

Unknown energies....
Also I recommend Geore Ure's Urban Survival Blog http://www.urbansurvival.com/week.htm which leaks some stuff from the web bots. It's good for economic and general news like this today about a "Giant Breach in the Earth's Magnetic Field" http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/16dec_giantbreach.htm
One important thing the web bots say about the next 4 to 8 months is the development of "Bogs Life" (Beyond Organizations/Government) meaning selfsustaining communities, which people here are probably into. It helps to have some positive things in the near future.
Also of interest would be the "unknown energies from space" ...ability to observe the (phenomena) in own settings/regular habitat...observable behavior changes in self and others around self...percieved exponential increase in local syncronicities...
that sorta thing.
Boom
From the NASA article on the magnetic-field breach: "The opening was huge—four times wider than Earth itself,"

Sorry. Its a perverse thing to get excited about...and I weep for those who will not survive (indeed, I may be one of them)...but dear Heavens am I ready for these supposed events prophecied to really change this world.
The 'Bogs life' is interesting. I have noticed myself that these sustainable -- or at least intentional -- communities seem to be popping up all over the place all of a sudden.
We really might make it, if we keep this up.

"...based on complex
"...based on complex analysis and filtering of linguistic data collected by monitoring web chatter."
It seems a bit like a feedback loop, especially concerning 2012, eschaton, novelty & so forth, ie: if you chat about it, it will be predicted (by this bot), it will be self-fulfilled (via the chat).
Sounds like we should chat about the most positive things imaginable...
Feedback Loop
I had actually heard, a few years ago, that the WebBot project had been put on hold because people had started leaking the predictions on websites. The creators felt that this skewed the results, and rendered the gathered information invalid.
I guess they found a way to filter it out? Or maybe they decided it was just the next evolution: as the predictions get out, and people find out about them, they begin to take on a life of their own, and make themselves come true.
Dunno. Its still freaky how often, and accurately, they get stuff right.

Check out....
Check out the link within the post, and then check out the links within that page to the Boundary Institute. You can find information there about how predictions made by this project and technology like it were linked to 9/11. It should also be noted that these analyses are in hindsight, and that the web bot utters phrases that are ambiguous and open to interpretation.

Mystery of the Mummified Head
Ugotstahwonder: "Also quite radical is the notion that we may see stuff like a detached human arm suspended over a freeway without any explanation"
Just saw this report from Scotland:
"A human head has been found in a bag by a woman on a public footpath in Edinburgh.
The human remains, which appeared to be mummified, were discovered at Hawthornvale, in the Leith area of the city, at about 1030 GMT."
Close enough?

no, not close at all by far
Lol
Don't worry: If it doesn't come to pass, there will be other things for people to be scared of in the future...always has been before. ^_~

Highly Questionable
What the bot reports is subject to human interpretation and thus in my opinion its reliability is questionable. I think that the use being made out of this technology is futile and that looking at it as a reliable future foreteller is stupid. Nothing more to say; I like it plain and simple. No offense made.

Heh. It is true. Just like every 'prophecy' I have ever heard, it is much more a case of, after something happens, saying, "Oh! So that's what that meant!"
Knowing the prophecy can almost be more a hindrance than a boon, as it can cause you to think it will be something it isn't; and thus miss the fulfillment entirely, in the course of looking for something different.
Love the quote. Every concept must contain -- within itself -- its own critique; so as to allow for its eventual, and inevitable, replacement in the natural course of evolution. Paraphrase of Guy Debord from The Society of the Spectacle.

if the web bot project
if the web bot project could forecasts the attacks on 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and others, is really great. but i am a little skeptical. imagine how many disasters we can prevent or save people with this web prediction! alsocan it steal information form other copmuter, like a viruses? i mean can be use as a government weapon, to spy? i am protec from viruses by using <a rel="follow" href="http://housecall.trendmicro.com">antivirus free download</a, but maybe it doesn't act like a virus, but as a free soft.
