New School's Out

new-school-occupation23.jpg

On Wednesday, December 17th, the Students for Democratic Society at The New School occupied a Graduate Faculty building on 5th Ave, calling for immediate administrative reform concerning recent infringement of the school's founding principles.

Their demands include the removal of president Bob Kerry, a redirected budget towards greater student life, and the formation of a committee on "socially responsible investments."

As of Thursday evening, student negotiators have made contact with the administration, and their demands are reportedly being heard. Additionally, the ongoing protest has attracted little to no police activity.

Bravo

Looks like history might not have ended afterall.

I wonder if the student uprising in Greece helped motivate them to take action.

I need to look into this. Do you have any more details about this event Stephen?

First, SDS!?Around again?

Taking over the New School, that's pretty cool. The New School has always seemed like a very progressive place,so if it has drifted towards more repressive ways then GOOD

Occupy that ish!

Still kinda Strange though

Wow! Apparently SDS IS still around. Amazing!I just watched some clips from the lockout

Very Good.

I'm reminded about how much of a struggle this stuffis, but even within this tussles with authoritarian forcesand the restraint held by protestors while still standing strongis very inspiring.

Thanks for the post Stephen

necessary action

Yeah, it's unbelievable that everything happened so quickly, too. By the time this was posted, the student's concerns were already negotiated.

Similar, I suppose--though less intense--to how no one expected something like the Berlin Wall to go down without a fight, but because it was necessary, it did.

I remember a line from The Last Unicorn, that "...hero's know that things must happen when it is time for them to happen."

Perhaps, it was time... I like that.

"You have tasted death now," said the Old Man. "Is it good?"

"It is good," Mossy replied. "It is better than life."

"No... only more life."
