Mythology Illustrated

threevaritans.jpgIn the style of progressive graphic novels like Maus by Art Spiegelman and the Testament series by Douglas Rushkoff, Varitan's new Illustrated Greek Myths is a visionary collection of old stories with hip new twists.  Each chapter tells the classic story of a God or Goddess, hero or heroine from a post-modern narrative standpoint. With dazzling visionary illustrations by an Argentinian illustrator, Federico Ulises Parolo, and well crafted stories by Editor/Publisher Jorian Polis Schutz, Varitan's Illustrated Greek Myths is sure to become a cult-classic. For example, in a wonderful section entitled "Odysseus and the Sirens," the famous tale from The Odyssey is retold from a new narrative perspective and includes an illustration that paints the sirens as images from pop culture -- rock stars, corporate suits, television news anchors, and so forth. The editor and publisher, Jorian Polis Schutz, will be reading from Varitan's Illustrated Greek Myths and the illustrator Federico Ulises Parolo will be speaking about the artwork this Sunday, April 3rd from 6-8pm at the Nightlight Astrology Community Center. We'll also be chanting and singing in six different languages to celebrate the new moon!
