The Maya of Eternal Time
Drunvalo Melchizedek, author of The Flower of Life and The Serpent of Light, has just released a new video, available in 14 parts on Youtube. The Maya of Eternal Time claims to reveal new information about prophecies held by the indigenous Maya of today. Broadcasting from a futuristic-looking set, Melchizedek says he received permission from Don Alejandro Cirilo Perez, the leader of the Mayan council of elders, to disseminate this material. According to this program, somewhere between now and 2015, magnetic pole shift will be followed by a physical one in which we will go blind for thirty hours before all of humanity attains a higher state of consciousness.
In my book Beyond 2012, I sought to separate fact from rumor in regard to the end of the Long Count Calendar of the Classical Maya. Watching Melchizidek's production, I found a number of factual anomalies and points to question. These are enumerated below, and below that, I offer my review of The Serpent of Light, which was similarly riddled with inaccuracies and seeming exaggerations.
The Maya of Eternal Time
1. Melchizidek quotes from the recent book, The Chaos Point, without mentioning its author, Ervin Laszlo.
2. The Aztec Sunstone is not the Mayan calendar; he connects it to the Precession of the Equinoxes, but this is meaningless -- precession may be on the outer dots according to Professor Gordon Brotherston, but not where Melchizidek said.
3. The waffle about Fibonacci didn't connect to evolution or 2012 -- he must have been thinking of Smelyakov's Auric Time Scale, but didn't know enough to make sense.
4. The precession cycle does not have an apogee and perigee -- these are the nearest and furthest parts of an elliptical orbit.
5. If comet Holmes is the Blue Star, why haven't the ceremonies ceased as predicted in the rest of the prophecy? (My friend lived on Hopi reservation last year and witnessed a ceremony in a kiva).
6. Cayce predictions -- there are many errors, not just one. Many sites list them, for example, Fortean Times.
7. He implies that the Maya tracked Milankovitch cycles, but there is no evidence for this.
8. If the stars are not visible at night, this does NOT mean we have all gone blind . . . what about clouds, fog, smoke, volcanic ash??
9. Don Alejandro originally said 60-70 hours of darkness, not 30!
10. Why would Don Alejandro speak of Pachamama, when this is a Peruvian term?
11. He also paraphrased one of my favorite McKenna quotes, (comparing birth side-effects with Earth changes) but of course, he failed to mention its source, as he fails to mention any of his sources, thus impressing the impressionable.
I have a friend who related a detailed story about his meeting with archaeologists in Belize to a woman who was a friend of Drunvalo, and he later saw his story related online by Drunvalo in a publicity spiel for his Serpent of Light book, but the story was told as if Drunvalo was the person who met the archaeologists!
Let's not forget, either, that back in 2003, Drunvalo was saying that 2012 is really 2003,
So why is he now saying 2012 is 2012? Ah yes, his 2012 book....
Serpent of Light
Drunvalo Melechizedek's book Serpent of Light tells the story of the regular movement of the Kundalini earth current -- every 13,000 years it moves to a new location. Having moved from Lemuria to Atlantis, to the Himalayas, it is now moving to the Andes in Chile and Peru, and is governed by the precession of the equinoxes (POE).
On page 9, Drunvalo says that on December 21 2012, the axis of the earth will "be on the edge of" the Aquarius constellation.
What actually happens on December 21 2012 is that on the day of winter solstice, when the sun lies between earth and the dark rift on the galactic equator, the earth's axis will be aligned with the crossing point of the ecliptic and the galactic equator, which lies at 5 degrees sidereal Sagittarius. On spring equinox circa 2012, the vernal point (sunrise on spring equinox) will lie close to the Aquarius boundary (5 degrees sidereal Pisces), but this does not coincide with the alignment of the earth axis. See this page with diagrams and video for a simple explanation.
On page 21, Drunvalo actually says that on 21 December 2012 the equinox will precess into Aquarius ("...change of the POE into Aquarius"). However, this is the winter solstice, so the sentence is nonsense.
On page 17, Drunvalo says the "Troano document" is "an ancient stone document found by archaeologists in the Yucatan, and it is now located in the British Museum. He says it was translated by le Plongeon and is estimated to be 3,500 years old.
The Troano Codex was actually the original name for the Madrid Codex, one of four surviving Maya codices. It is kept in the Museo de América, in Madrid, Spain, and is dated to the 15th century. The version that Drunvalo repeats was quoted on Masonic websites such as this.
It is a piece of disinformation that originates in a 1912 hoax newspaper article in which Paul Schliemann claimed to have read the Troano in the British Museum and translated it -- he actually rehashed Brasseur de Bourbourg's translation, (not realizing the Troano was in Madrid), which was done before anyone understood the glyphs. See the last two paragraphs of this article.
It is not made of stone, not 3,500 years old, and not in the British Museum, though it was mistranslated by le Plongeon.
On pages 23-24, Drunvalo says that "the Serpent of Light was blocked" and "the problem could not be solved until the Ceremony of the Eagle and the Condor was performed." His explanation: "The Mayan calendar said so." This kind of statement is one of the most irritating of all for those of us who want to check facts and are not starry-eyed disciples. The Mayan calendars did not say anything. This statement is presumably meant to mean that there is a Mayan prophecy somewhere that is tied in to a date in the Mayan calendar systems. However, Drunvalo avoids giving the source, so we can check up and see that this is actually not the case. The Eagle and Condor prophecy seems to be primarily an Ecuador prophecy. The Ecuador version says that one day the indigenous people will be liberated when the tears of the condor are united with the tears of the eagle. The Inca version seems to have originated by Alberto Villoldo connecting the Ecuador prophecy with an Inca prophecy of a Pachacuti (earth/time turn-over) every 500 years. The Inca prophecy does independently connect to 2012, but to say that "the Mayan calendar says so" is totally untrue.
On page 219, Drunvalo gives credence to the theory that Lord Pacal's tomb lid shows "a Mayan astronaut," as claimed by von Daniken in 1968, regardless of the fact that it depicts the soul of Pacal journeying up the world tree, according to the Mayan scholars.
Given that the author has shown misunderstandings, repeated a 100-year-old hoax from a website as if it were true, and fudged facts and avoided references, how can he expect us to believe him when he claims that the ancient Anasazi people disappeared into another dimension (page 134); that the driver of the tour bus to Antelope canyon was totally blind, and even his family didn't know (page158); that ancient Maya would deliberately transfer their consciousness into a crystal skull, where it would remain for thousands of years (page 172); that heads of Maya priests appeared out of the ground when crystals were arranged in a circle round an altar, and then they emerged completely (page 206); and other far-fetched stories?
While there are some interesting ideas and anecdotes in the book, it is spoiled by treating the readers as if they are stupid -- even going so far as to inform us that "life is organic" (page 11).

hey geoff,
i wanted to thank you for the research you've done as well as the succinct analysis on drunvalo's latest work.
"the flower of life" series was part of my introduction to 2012 for which i've been incredibly grateful and as a result i've never looked back.
i'm not here to support or deny what drunvalo is saying but i suspect if we visited our closest chapters we'd be able to catalgoue a library of discrepancies plaguing the book shelf regarding the topic of 2012.
that being said i have the utmost respect for your due diligence with someone who perhaps has such potential to publically influence. this kind of healthy skepticism is indispensable.
but now that these factual errors have been highlighted would it not be productive to engage drunvalo in open dialogue?
perhaps someone from RS could interview him?
perhaps an open forum could be organzied?
geoff have you attempted to contact drunvalo yourself?
Interesting Astronomy+++
12-21-12 is indeed a very interesting date to consider-in astronomy.
2012- A Cosmic Event?
there is some very interesting cosmology presented here, but bear in mind, this information is purely scientific with very little spiritual perspective.
Not In My Galaxy!
Dr Paul La Violette of the Starburst Academy:
2012.kaliYuga...
from duncan2102.blogspot.com
I know I had a difficult time coping with this topic, both emotionally and spiritually. I can't say that I have perfected the right "attitude"about what the future holds. To be honest, I think I always held backfrom accepting the facts. I had hope. But this new evidence forces me to open my eyes and soul to setting my life in order. I hope it will do the same for you.
Although "doomsday" is frequently linked with the Mayan calendar, this is just coincidental. December 12, 2012 is a significant day in ASTRONOMY because of a number of important events that will impact our Sun. It would be a "doomsday" even if we never knew about the Mayan calendar.
Yet, the more we understand this ancient civilization andappreciate their knowledge of astronomy, we must assume they knew this date to be auspicious. So let's just talk about <astronomy> here. There's alot of information. I'll try to make it easy to understand.
Glazed donuts on the Moon
Let'sbegin back in the 1960s with the Apollo 11 manned landing on the moon.On one of their EVA's (extra-vehicular activities), the astronauts photographed and took samples from some small craters, about 20cm to1.5 meters across. When they examined the floors of these craters they noticed what looked like glazed donuts.
These were actually chunks of moon dirt that were coated by glass. The glazed areas are clearly concentrated toward the top surfaces ofprotuberances, although they exist also on some sides. Points and edge sappear to be strongly favored for the glazing process. In some cases, droplets appear to have run down an inclined surface for a few millimeters and congealed there.
[1] Hardly anyone in the general public was made aware of this discovery and, even if they were, they could hardly have realized the significance. But in 1969, an article in Science by T.Gold [1] proposed a theory of how they were made. Glass, as we know, is made from melting sand. It occurs natually near sources of high temperature, such as volcanos and meteor impacts. The atom bomb tests in New Mexico's White Sands area produced a small "lake" of glass at ground zero. So it was never a question about the lunar glass alsohaving been created by something very hot. The fact that the glaze was confined to small patches, 0.5 to10mm, suggested to scientists that the surface had been zapped rather than slow-cooked.
And the likely source of this zap was our Sun.
Gold estimated that the solar luminosity would have had to increase by 100times what it is normally, for a duration of from 10 to 100 seconds. Also, because of the lack of debris or dirt covering thisglass, it must have occurred within the last 30,000 years. This made Gold propose that the Sun -- our Sun -- does this every 10,000 years or more.
He suggested that future research should look for a "trigger" event -- possibly a large comet or asteroid impacting the surface of the Sun. He estimated this would only have to be 100 km and weigh 3 x 1021 grams.
Decades passed and this theory didn't receive much attention. Then, as it often does, the theory got a fresh look by a genius, Dr. Paul LaViolette.
He was not satisfied with the source of the glass being caused by a solar blast, mainly because the output would have had to be on the scale of a nova, not just a flare. He envisioned another possibility. LaViolette envisioned a large solar flare or coronal mass ejection(CME) that would become magnetically entrapped in the Earth's magnetosphere
[2]. The magnetosphere would then hold on to this fireball of radiation like a magnetic thermos bottle, allowing the Moon and Earth to be exposed for a duration of time long enough to really"flash bake" their surfaces. Critics quickly denounced LaViolette's theory citing evidence of"cosmic dust" and rare elements in the lunar glass and concluding thatthe heat source was from a meteor impact.
[3] But LaViolette proposed that this cosmic dust was likely present on the surface of the Moon during the time it was melted into the glass. In fact, he proposed that the entire solar system was full of this cosmic dust at the time of this solar eruption. He was vindicated when polar ice cores showed unusual cosmic dust deposits at strata marking the end of the last ice age
[4]. This time period, about 12,950 BCE, approximates the current age of the Moon glass. So where did all this cosmic dust come from? Like Earth, our entire solar system has its own atmosphere, called the heliopause. This "bubble" surrounds the Sun and planets as it travels through galactic space. Like our earth's magnetosphere, the movement of theheliopause creates a rounded "head" and a narrowing "tail." Actually,it's more egg shaped.
Until recently, astronomers believed that our solar system was a region relatively free from cosmic dust. The cosmic dust and frozen material of space were kept outside this protective bubble. This was confirmed when the IRAS and Ulysses spacecrafts showed infrared images of the solar system, surrounded by whispy clouds of cosmic dust that increase in density just beyond Saturn. So if the cosmic dust is surrounding the heliopause, what would make it suddenly enter the heliopause and how would this coincide with huge solar flares?
LaViolette envisioned something disrupting the heliopause from the outside, impacting it and drawing cosmic dust inside with itand energizing the Sun. The energy of such an impact would be immense. The most logical place to look for such enormous energy was the MilkyWay Galaxy.
The smoking gun-- Examining the shape of the cosmic dust clouds, the IRAS satellite team reportedthat the cloud was tilted relative to the solar system's ecliptic --the narrow plane containing our planets. LaViolette realized that this odd alignment tracked back to the Galactic center. This was quickly verified by NASA's Ulysses spacecraft and New Zealand's AMOR spaceradar observatory. Whatever caused the last ice age to end, the Sun to flare up and caused the glass to form on the Moon, came from the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. The plot was getting more interesting. Astronomers have known about intense radiation from space since the 1970s.
Multiple bursts of powerful gamma rays were routinely detected and believed to originate from stars in the Milky Way. Assuming this energy originated locally, astronomers concluded thistype of gamma ray burst was insignificant and harmless. Then, in December 1997, they had the technology and good luck to catch a strong gamma ray burst and track it. The source was not inside the Milky Way Galaxy. It was from a distant galaxy billions of light years away. Are view of other bursts showed that their assumptions had been wrong. All of the gamma ray bursts they were observing were from other galaxies far, far away. The amount of energy coming from objects so distant was a real shock.
No one had ever imagined such powerful bursts could be generated by galactic centers. The thought of a burst coming from our own Milky Way galactic center was abysmal. A burst of the same intensity as the 1997 event, originating from inside the Milky Way,would deliver 100,000 time the lethal dose of radiation, killing everylife form that was exposed. Could that really happen to us?
This question was answered on August 27th, 1998 when an unusual 5 minute gamma ray pulse was located just 20,000 lightyears away in the constellation of Aquila. This may sound like a huge distance, but to astronomers this is just "next door." The Milky WayGalaxy, for example, is just 100,000 light years from end to end.
The 1998 event was close enough and strong enough to ionize Earth'supper atmosphere, damage a couple of spacecraft and disrupt global communication. Since then astronomers place gamma ray bursts from the Glaxy's core at the top of the list of things we don't want to happen.
Before Aquila, scientists just feared exploding stars -- novas and supernovas. Now things are different. It's like living in a ghetto and fearing drive-by shootings and random bullets. Then one day you learnthat there's a nuclear bomb down the street, waiting to explode. Not in my galaxy! Ironically, all of these facts are incorporated in LaViolette's ~"superwave"~ theory.
He concludes that there are cyclical and frequent explosions from the Galaxy's core. These waves of radiation advance outward to the edges of the Galaxy, impacting everything and causingstars to erupt in their path. He believes this is what has happenedmany times to our own solar system -- the most recent superwave ofradiation being 14,950 years ago. He envisions the shock wave -- or superwave -- dragging cosmic dust along with it as it enters the heliopause and energizes our Sun. Ice core samples support this view. Evidence of the effects from cosmic dust show at ice core strata corresponding to the years13,880 to 13,785 BCE.
This evidence, along with the Moon glass, thepresence of cosmic dust and the abrupt and atypical end of the last iceage -- all point to an intimate relationship between extreme solaractivity and gama radiation from the Milky Way Galaxy's center. Something has changed ---
More troubling is the suggestion by some scientists that this powerful radiation may not require a dramatic burst or explosion to cause eruptions in the Sun. Physicists at nearly a dozen researchinstitutions, including New York University, have discovered evidencefor very high energy gamma rays emitting from a narrow band at theequator of the Milky Way. These gamma ray levels mark the highest energies ever detected from the Galaxy. The gamma rays had a median energy of 3.5 trillion electron-volts, or 3500 times the mass-energy of a proton. Previous satellite experimentshave seen gamma-ray emissions along the galactic equator reaching up toenergies of only 30 billion electron-volts. Perhaps related to this is the puzzling fact that, even though we have witnessed no Galactic explosions or "bursts", the measurements of cosmic dust streaming inside the heliopause as been steadily increasing
[6] to almost three times since the last solar maximum in 2001. During the solar maximum of each 11 year cycle, the polarity of the Sunshifts -- North becomes South and visa versa. This brief period ofmagnetic instability allows some cosmic dust to enter the heliopausebecause the Sun's "shields" are reduced. But once the new polarity isestablished, the Sun usually quickly blocks the dust. This time itdidn't happen. Cosmic dust has been streaming in from the Glacticcenter and astronomers are at aloss to explain why.
It's likely that the solar system is already experiencing the invasive energy from the Galactic equator as we move into position and align with it on 2012.
Yes, there's more! What will it be like when this happens to us? Perhaps the most dramatic evidence of what we can expect in 2012 comes from the most unlikely place -- ancient petroglyphs! Ancient rock carvings from around the globe, created during the last solar "zap" 14,950 years ago, seem to illustrate a spectacular event that happened when the Earth was last hit by extremely high radiation. This is a little difficult to explain, but I'll try. Viewed from the top, the aurora actually forms a luminous and electricallycharged cup (or chalice) shape extending into space from each pole. We are all familiar with the sparks that flash brightly when we discharge electrical current. Lightening is a good example. Extremelyhigh energy, called plasma, has been shown to form unique shapes when it is made to discharge -- especially around a sphere. The northernlights are an example of how this "spark" of plasma can form luminous, electrically charged sheets or tubes at the Earth's poles. The aurora, as it is called, occurs when mild energy from our Sun is trapped and dissipated by the Earth's magnetic poles.
Extremely high energy -- the type that would have caused the Moon glass and zapped the Earth -- creates a more elaborate discharge. Physicists call it a z-pinch formation. The z-pinch has been extensively researched by a groupheaded by Anthony L. Peratt with the Los Alamos National Laboratory,Los Alamos, NM and is described in his paper, Characteristics for the Occurrence of a High-Current Z-Pinch Aurora as Recorded in Antiquity Part II: Directionality and Source[5].In this paper, Dr. Peratt illustrates the shape and characteristics ofthis high energy discharge on the Earth and shows thousands ofpetroglyph sites all over the globe where this z-pinch was observed andrecorded in ancient carvings. The term z-pinchoriginates from experiments where physicists made extremely highcurrent to flow through thin wires that were arranged vertically in atubular formation. They noticed that the energy quickly vaporized thewires, but the magnetic field generated by these paths remained andcontained (or "pinched") the stream of energy, collapsing the streamsof energy toward the center of the tube-like configuration -- called the z-axis. When the streams of energy converge, they form uniqueshapes that persist and can be observed as Birkeland elements, named for their discoverer.auroral plasma column as viewed at an angle of inclination, not to scale. The relativistic electron flow is downwards toward Antarctica. The current bundle above Antarctica twists in counter-clockwise rotation. By convention, the Birkeland currents and ion flow is upwards toward the Arctic. Not yet completely resolved is a bend in the upper filament sheath that allows the upper plasmoids and column to be seen at northern latitudes.] If the Earth was zapped by high energy radiation, either from the Sunor the Galactic core, the planet would be surrounded with distinct lines of energy, converging at the North and South pole. These bands would continue to extend well out from the planet's poles and intospace and would be visible from almost every point on Earth -- each with its own unique perspective.
Laboratory experiments with a metal sphere, representing Earth, show the "chalice" shape created by high energy paths [above].Oddly, repeated experiments show a preference for 56 "rays" or distinctbands of energy. This same number is often depicted in the ancientpetroglyphs! [Above (left): Northern hemisphere petroglyphs from the Columbia River Basin, 45.65ºN, 121.95ºW. Right: Oblique view into the auroral plasma column from these coordinates. Above (right): Nasca, Peru vase, date unknown (14.24ºS, 75.58ºW). Note the similarity to the northern hemisphere petroglyphs.] Recentglobal archiving of global petroglyphs have demonstrated that theseshapes were correctly recorded in rock carvings by humans who withnessed this event! [Above (left):White-striped pictographs at Iga Warta Cultural Tourism Centre, NorthFlinders Range (30.59ºS, 138.94ºE). New dating techniques of this red inorganic-pigmented pictograph image were done using a plasma-chemicalextraction method and correspond to the era of the z-pinch.] When researchers went to various petroglyph sites that contained thez-pinch artifacts they carefully plotted the GPS location and noted ifthe ancient artist had a clear view of the Southern horizon. Almost all of the sites had this view.
<These illustrations can be viewed on the website:
duncan2012.blogspot.com/notin mygalaxy!
The number and extent of these global petroglyph sites clearly demonstrate the purpose of this art. Also, depending on the latitude, depictions of the z-pinch corresponded to the exact perspective that would have been expected. Some examples of z-pinch petroglyphs are shown here. We highly recommend reading the complete article. We especially thank teammember, John McGovern, for bringing this important work to ourattention. So what do we know for sure? The recent data shows that dramatic and potentially deadly effects canresult from solar flares and coronal mass ejections.
Substantial data suggests that an event, similar to the one anticipated in the 2012"doomsday" scenario, occurred about 14,950 years ago and was recorded by ancient humans. This event appears to have lasted for several years in duration and was responsible for the abrupt end of the last ice ageas well as a substantial culling of the human population.
The surprising findings of LaViolette, supported by other research, suggests that the extreme solar event corresponded to powerful radiation coming from the center of the Milky Way Galaxy and was associated with gamma rays and cosmic dust. Recent observations have shown a dramatic increase in gamma ray energy in the Glaxy's equator which will be in maximum alignment with our solar system on December12, 2012. The past records in ice cores (strata from 13,880 to 13,785BCE) suggest that intense radiation from this last event could have lasted many years. It seems highly likely that this alignment willcause another extreme solar event since other factors precipitating a"solar maximum" (i.e. the opposition of major planetary barycenters) also converge on this exact date. The fact that galactic centers routinely radiate lethal gamma rays makes it unlikely that life, at least as we understand it, can survive in the universe. Sooner or later it is destined to be zapped. A new genetic study of Y-chromosome variation by Dr. Marcus Feldman ofStanford University shows that the population from which the world'spresent population is derived consisted of about 2,000 individuals. Somehow, humans, flora and fauna did survive the past doomsday and somemay yet survive past 2012.
Indeed, many of the ancient prophecies I have encountered in my travels around the world have spoken of a"bright light" or "flash" followed by the "good seed" (i.e. humanity)which would rise up and repopulate the world.[7] Organisms on Earth, including humans, have evolved during quiet times-- between the lethal blasts from our own Milky Way center. This means that we are indeed quite unique (and lucky). But it also means that our ultimate demise is part of the natural order. This universe is larger than ourselves and our lives. We are just transient phenomena, seemingly running counter to the laws of entropy, yet a part of the cosmic reality. This is neither good or bad. It simply is. And yet there is part of us that may continue.

This event..is not necessarily a doomsday for mankind....but perhaps an evolutionary event scenario. This is why it has been depicted by the ancients in glyphs all over the world...by far the most epic even...and happening in our lifetime?

I guess i am a charlatan too
I guess Drunvalo was in Taos when Frank Waters published Mexico Mystique, after Book of the Hopi, both of which were seminal writings on the subject of 2012. I would like to give Drunvalo a little slack just for living in Taos for 14 years. Free Taos.
I am interested to bring up the feeling that too many of the old 2012ers are self important and their charlatans' cut and paste presentation of the story is more about making themselves look important than the Mayas. I am from that generation and I have felt the self importance of many 2012ers from Arguelles on. However I think there has been a similar self important pattern for say the last 3-4,000 years for all religious, spiritual, cult leaders that have the professed the permanent Truth and sole access to God. It is just an old identity self and collective paradigm. On a more individual level one does a little inner/spiritual/substance altering work and gains a little power/knowledge and too often gets the bighead. I have certainly been guilty of self importance a time or two. It seems to me that most self importance slips into pity and one generally learns that the accumulation of power/knowledge is best integrated and more energetically stable if ones motivation is to help one and all.
There has been a considerable increase in 2012 commerce recently and I have seen a plethora of indigenous groups playing the same game. Shamans from Sedona or the Amazon can be self important too, don't you think? The self important thing is pretty much always the same whether individual or group, wanting control for self benefit only. It seems not so easy to generate bodhicitta.
Joining the RS circle( i have experienced very little self importance in this group) is like fresh air to me. I have enjoyed reading some of the new 2012 books especially yours Geoff and Dan. I do not want or need the poles to shift but I am ready wiling and hopefully able to evolve and change. However I cannot totally blow Drunvalo off and actually would like to thank him for carrying the 2012 torch for a long time. Some of his stuff is certainly off but some of it may not be despite his tone. All I can do is try to understand, put the info through my heart/intuition test and integrate it or not. I am looking to the 2012er for help and guidance and want to share my stuff. Therefore I agree with a previous idea that RS ask Drunvalo to talk. We all may benefit from a respectful dialogue on a subject that is after all near and dear to us 2012ers old or young.

Dear Geoff,
Study of the Mayan Calendar is an intuitive process… which you seem to overlook in your analysis. Let us not be led aStray by such nit-picking rationalism.
Here let Dr. Calleman explain it,http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=1000F9E6C8CCDC04
Nit-picking rationalism
Thanks to everyone for their comments - viewzone material was great......I know that rocking the pedestal is not going to win me any new friends, but Daniel asked me for my opinion and there it is...of course, Drunvalo is right about the importance of heart-centered awareness, and perhaps I should have acknowledged that (this has of course, been the original core, though obscured message of Christianity for the last 2,000 years).Reverendiscordia, yes I tried to contact Drunvalo in 2003, using 3 or 4 email addresses, concerning the 2003=2012 fiasco, as detailed in that link. I did not receive a reply.Ghillie, It is "nit-picking rationalism" that enabled academics to reconstruct the Maya calendars over the last century. Since you have brought up the subject of Calleman and his intuition, this is a subject I can't resist (yes, I have seen the film How to Lose Friends and Alienate People)... After watching Carl's 3-hour talk, Daniel and I had a panel discussion with Carl a couple of weeks ago, in Virginia Beach. Carl had provided all the audience with a copy of this document:
http://www.mayanmajix.com/end_date.pdf
It starts off unfairly using Jenkins's being taken advantage of by lying film producers, to bolster Calleman's claims. I put this to him in the debate at the conference - he knows very well that Jenkins has not got a doomsday agenda - (Jenkins wrote an article on his own website explaining how he was duped by these film people http://alignment2012.com/historychannel.htmlAnother point that I put to him, is that his theories imply that every single Maya inscription is wrong - they all show dates in 3 calendars, and nobody in over 100 years of academic work on it, has questioned this internal correlation of Maya calendars before.... What Carl is talking about is not the Maya calendar, but the Calleman Carlendar.Maya epigraphers Michael Grofe and Barbara Macleod have independently found evidence that the Maya were tracking precession - Grofe in the Dreden Codex, and Macleod on a carved bone from Tikal. This does not fit in with Carl's theory..since he has pronounced that the Long Count has nothing to do with astronomical cycles. In his talk, he had all the cycles on display when he announced this, including the one day cycle...if thats not an astronomical cycle, then it would be an amazing coincidence that the spiritual cycles of the entire universe (according to him) are based around exactly one Earth day. Here is a list of astronomical cycles that relate to Maya calendars:1. All their calendars were based around a day, which is one circuit of the Earth around the Sun.2. Three Tzolkins is exactly one Mars synodic year (3 x 260=780)3. Eight haabs is exactly five Venus synodic years (8 x 365 = 5 x 584)4. 46 Tzolkins = 405 lunar months5. 59 Tzolkins = 42 tropical years6. 135 Tzolkins = 88 Jupiter synodic years7. 137 Tzolkins = 61 Venus synodic years8. Twenty 819-day cycles = 21 Mars synodic years9. Six 819-day cycles = 13 Saturn synodic years10. Nineteen 819-day cycles = 39 Jupiter synodic years11. 96 Tzolkins = 65 thirteen-month lunar years12. 4 Tzolkins = 3 Eclipse years13. One 13-tun cycle = 6 Mars synodic years = 18 Tzolkins14. TWO 13-tun cycles = 27 Eclipse years15. 39 Uinals = one Mars synodic year16. Five 13-baktun cycles = one precession cycle.
<p>The Calleman Carlendar is a mish-mash of material - the six nights and seven days of creation are from the book of Genesis, along with his Garden of Eden and Tree of Life material and there is input from other parts of the Bible, such as The book of Revelation - this is one of the reasons for the appeal, especially in the States, where large parts of the population expect Jesus to return soon, saving the harvested 144,000 elect and burning the rest like weeds. This is the part that Calleman fails to address - the catastrophe that is secretly lurking in this theory is that of the billions of people who not only suffer an agonizing death, but burn in hell for all eternity, while the "144,000" Callemanites all go to Heaven.</p>
Carl states that the advocates of a 2012 end to the 13-baktun cycle are in effect saying, "do not prepare yourself for the new world now - wait until the shift comes, December 21, 2012". Well presumably he hasn't heard that JMJ says the Galactic Alignment will not all culminate on one day - he expects the effects to be spread over years, and also recommends Vipassna meditation as a preparation, and does not imply we should wait. I have also suggested many times that I don't expect it all to culminate on 21 December 2012, but throughout that whole year and the following 2 years, and that people should start now with their self-development work, in order to address negative emotions such as fear and anger responses and other shadow material. In fact, it is in this area that I think the nine underworlds are to be understood - as nine levels of internal shadow realms containing our deep complexes and anxieties that must be addressed before our higher selves can emerge....but thats a whole presentation and no time and space for it here. This was all aired in the panel discussion and we did not fall out.
Exactly
what pedestal are you referring to? An ideal Mayan Calendar prophet?… who determines this? IMO, it seems you're just being divisive - thereby clouding the thrust & understanding of what we are facing as a species.
Where's your intuitive insight on the *commonality* of the work of all these leading researchers? Isn't that the general message we are all trying to decode here as we gather a dizzying pace into this, as TMac says,"concrescence" of human knowledge?
I'm not sure what point you're trying to make with your whole response. Should we be suspicious of what Calleman writes or Jenkins… Perhaps i am totally misreading you. My original post simply challenged you to examine the works of DM, JMJ, CC, Arguelles et al… with a more intuitive (wizened) perspective… again, lacking in your response.
Re; Exactly
The pedestal upon which we put our New Age guru(s), of course. I was questioning CC's material - not JMJ. If you want to see an example of a more intuitive offering, in which I find patterns that lie in common between various approaches, and don't say anything critical, then see this my essay in the Mystery of 2012 book, - excerpts here:
http://tinyurl.com/lr8fdv
or this:
http://www.2012theodyssey.com/articles-beyond.html
which is very brief version.
I know that Barabara Hand Clow's approach is to see only ways of connecting the various perspectives on the 2012/Maya calendars subjects, and perhaps you would enjoy her work, since it tells you what you want to hear. However, I see this approach as a reality tunnel in Wilsons terminology, since it involves ignoring the "damned things" that don't fit into the picture. Don't get me wrong (I expect you will though), when Daniel said he is a perceiver of pattern, I really commend and applaud that approach and have included as a key part of my work, but I am also the "delver into detail", since a balanced approach includes left and right-brained takes. Hence, to point out the commonalities of DM, Arguelles, JMJ and CC, they all are saying that the Maya calendar is essentially a timetable of evolutionary shift, that will reach its main focus point in the next few years; they all emphasize that any negative effects are side-effects of the main event, which is a positive step up for human consciousness. However, beyond this, there is not much that they have in common, so those of us who are capable of thinking for ourselves can see that nobody has the whole answer - many people have a piece of the puzzle, so one approach is to look at each perspective separately, and filter out the parts that are based on egoism, sloppy research, chinese whispers, speculation, illusions, wishful thinking, and see what is left and whether any of it fits together. This is what I have tried to do in my articles, presentations, books and website. If this seems "divisive", then I would suggest that the attempt to unify is an attempt to over-simplify, and in the end, is dishonest. For example, Occam's razor was the approved principle used by science, until quantum theory showed that if we can use 2 seemingly contradictory models to predict events depending on the position of the observer, then we can have a wider understanding. This is a multi-model approach that Robert Anton Wilson wrote about, and can be useful in life when no one model actually totally fits everything. Some parts fit together very well - for example, the Dmitriev model in which the solar system is approaching and becoming embedded in a charged plasma cloud that is causing atmospheric and magnetic changes on all planets in the solar system, plus ramping up solar cycles and will also increase the incidence of plasma balls, cause a geomagnetic reversal and a "mass spontaneous evolution of (hu)mankind"
http://tinyurl.com/6g3ow9
and Dannion Brinkley's NDE visions from 1975, that seem to predict exactly the same - the return of an energy system to this part of the galaxy that hasn't been here for a long time; an opportunity for human spiritual development, along with a peak of Earth changes (between 2011 and 2012), and a geomagnetic reversal (between 2012 and 2014).
http://www.diagnosis2012.co.uk/new4.htm#nde
Then we can see that this ties in with Russian discoveries about a human plasma body; discoveries about plasma balls and possibly their connection with crop formations (maybe); the known effects of geomagnetic movements, their connection to solar storms; he magnetite in the pineal gland; the internal secretion of hallucinogens from the pineal gland during birth, death, and during mystical experiences (according to Strassman's research); the mystical experiences such as NDEs, OOBEs, entheogen -induced experiences, remote viewing, lucid dreams, deep-trance meditational; states, that have all produced visions of 2012; the fact that Terence and Dennis McKenna combined the Harmine in Ayahusaca vine with the Psiliocbin (4-phosfluoroxy-DMT) of Stropharia cubensis mushrooms and the Maya, who also focussed the end of their 13-baktun cycle on 2012, used 5-meo-DMT in toad venom, and also the same stropharia mushroom used by the McKennas...plus their Ceiba sacred tree contains harmine in the bark, and this is also produced in the pineal under certain circumstances...These are the kind of things I have seen forming a pattern under the info flooding we have about 2012, and I have shared them elsewhere in detail, so producing an "intuitive decoding of general message about 2012". As I said, most compact summary is in the Mystery of 2012 book, which you can sit in the bookshop and read if you are interested (by the way, before you accuse me of advertising, all the contributors got a miniscule one-off payment, so the book sales are just making the publisher rich).
Hand-Clow
What I respect about Barbara Hand-Clow's perspective on the Mayan Code, is her knowledge of astrology/cosmology and her native american heritage.
She is a world renowned and very respected astrologer.
How can anyone decode this cosmic calendar, without this knowledge?
I have already read
The Mysteries of 2012 - thanks for reminding me that you were a contributor. Curious as to what exactly makes you a Mayan "expert" and who knighted you that title? Also, i wonder if you've ever had, or regularly have, personal experience(s) with indigenous peoples in traditional ceremonies. I'll keep this short, i can see you have a lot invested in your own reality tunnel… so i'll let you get back to your expertise.
Carry on.
shadow self
Big Isle Forester
Great amounts of knowledge here, including many of the comments. What jumps out at me is Geoff saying, however briefly, that we must "address negetive emotions such as fear and anger responses and other shadow material..."
That is our work now, for if we call ourselves co-creators then we must realize we did this. Our separation is due to our desire to do our own thing, and the love of First Cause allows us to have at it.
Yes, we are the prodigal son lost in the mire of our own creation, and, knowing now what we have done, we wish to go home where we shall be received with unbounded love and forgiveness, as if this separation had never occured.
Bring the darkness up and expose the light to the ego that imagined it could do better than the perfection we all seek to re-discover. Forgive and love ourselves for our desire to create. Until we know that when our brother is cut, we bleed, we will continue to be lost in discussion about who is "right."
Hawaiians recognised our dark self, the unihipili that is a spoiled child residing in our deep gut that must be connected with in order to reach our true self. Our breath connects this child, from the core of Mother Earth to the heart of Father Sun.
It's like a tree of life inside us, we breathe and the energy flows upwards. It's like meditation, because the branches wind outwards into the realm of mind where we can be distracted.
This, our creation, is a virtual reality. With all this going on...why is everyone obsessed with TV, cellphones, and movies? We might better watch a seed sprout.
Love your dark self, bring old Lucifer into the present and tell him "thanks" because we've learned a lot from this being allowed to create a universe.
Meanwhile, reflect while pulling the weeds and watching the seeds of life continue to sprout and grow. Do it now, before the world wide web is but a memory, and you find you have no seeds for the future crop.
Geoff....says, "that's a whole presentation..."
Let us get to it.

Why wait for 2012?
Thanks Geoff, that was refreshing. My alarm bells go off when I hear an indigenous group projected upon with the fantasies of Utopian Western thought. First clue, "what do Mayans think?" Well, like many of us, they think a lot of different things, speak lots of different languages and live in many different countries. Some are cooks, some weave, some are drug traffickers, and some are healers. In Grassroots Postmodernism the authors make the point that global thinking is an impossible oxymoron because we cannot possible know what everyone is thinking! This doesn't mean we shouldn't work towards common or shared values, but indigenous people are very diverse and do not think alike, especially through out the Americas (you do a great job of pointing out these differences). I have talked to shamanic people from South America and North America, some are genuine herbalists/healers, others are New Age charlatans who are very good at pulling together different stories to (re)create myths that are primarily from outside their cultures and for audiences that are not their communities.
I think the problem is what Blavatsky referred to as "astral glamor." I always laugh when someone claims to be channeling some great spirit. How do they know who they are channeling is not insane or a liar? Just because something sounds otherworldly or cosmic doesn't mean it's right. I've conversed with many homeless people who are as eloquent as channeled spirits!
Finally (I'm just thinking out loud here), enlightenment or higher consciousness is already there, but it takes work (kinda like Michelangelo's David is already in the marble block). I don't know why we have to wait for it to be imposed upon us by the cosmic authorities. Frankly, I'm not asking the universe to enlighten me-- I don't think that's how it works. It is something that emerges into me. I find this idea of mass higher consciousness a particular mode of Utopian thought that comes from Western consciousness and detours from doing the difficult work of spiritual practice. It leads to dangerous cult practices like Catholicism or Heaven's Gate. Thanks again for your article. I do agree that heart-mind connection and other useful ideas shouldn't be discarded outright, but frankly these stories are just that, and I think we could all be served by living in the moment of our lives right now, where we live, in the reality we are born into.

Serpent of Light
I've been a fan of Drunvalo ever since reading his Flower of Life volumes... I thought they were very informative, and provided both hemispheres of my brain with more than enough information to heavily spark my interest in the subjects touched within.
I must be honest though, I was extremely disappointed with his latest book, "The Serpent of Light"... I really wanted to like it, because the kundalini/serpent holds much personal significance for me, and the basic premise sounded plausible enough.
I consider myself a very open-minded person, but many of the stories contained in this book were too much for even me to consider seriously
Where is the Unity?
Well...
After reading the posts in reaction to Drunvalo's web cast, I'm beginning to see why the Universe sees fit to re-set us every 13,000 years!
My word, people. Is there no love here? Is there no understanding? Is there no compassion?
It's not about Me, Me, Me. It's about Unity. One Love.
There are many common threads to all the books and resources mentioned on this site. Find the common hallowed ground and lead people to the light. There is no time for bickering and finger pointing. And what if there is time? Why spend it like this?
None us really knows what's coming down the pike. Nevertheless, I don't like the atrocious behavior on this planet and hope we can find our way past domination, decimation, and conflict to a better world.
I want to fill in the blanks from our collective amnesia. I want to experience the blend of ancient wisdom and current technology. I want to live in love without fear. I want to meet someone who is not from this planet. I want my children to realize their potential in ways we have only dared to imagine. I want to heal the damage we have done to each other and this planet.
Is this too much to ask? I think not.
I'm counting on the people in this community (and others) to look past the differences and find a way to unify and walk into the light. Read books, write books, surf the Web, post messages, attend gatherings. Do whatever it takes, but find the Love and share it. It's a good thing that we are talking, and reading, and meditating, and sharing, and getting it right and getting it wrong, then re-assessing.
The ego will be with us for a while. Constantly pointing out its dividing presence is counter productive. Let's go further together.

Yes, I have seen Aline History on HC
Sorry for the late reply.
I have seen this documentary and I liked it (but I'm a sucker for such things). I honestly don't quite know what to make of the History Channel. They are not shy about giving airtime to all sorts of alternative reality POV's.
I'm not in a position to parse fact from fiction, but I applaude the programming choice and hope they awakenen some minds to new possibiliites.
Thanks for the book recommendation and link to UFO Mystic.

Buzzkill.
After my interest in conspiracy theories led me to the radio show on Coast to Coast featuring Drunvalo, I have to admit I was captivated. I devoured all his information like candy. I almost bought the book (and others) until I read a comment on one of the videos stating he was a fraud. I decided to do some research then, and now here I am re-discovering this beautiful site I stumbled upon sometime last year. And unfortunately forgot about.
But that's not the point.
Here you are shooting his book full of holes, another person said he was part of a mindcontrol program or whatnot, and my amazing feelings of hope and interest have been replaced with disillusionment and fear. Are we going to be baked by the sun? If that's the case, putting a paper bag over my head and lying down sounds like a solid plan, or should I just sit around, meditate, and wait for enlightenment to be dumped onto me like a bucket of water?
Back to the drawing board, eh?
Basically, what are better options and ideas out there to believe in? Where does a newbie start?
Drum Also.
whenever I try to google Drunvalo my electronic device auto-corrects to Drum Also. So annoying.
I've had similar feelings as Xsanykto. I've been eating up all the Drumalso material I can in the last few days. I even wrote to him saying "I gotta meetcha!" His assistant sent a nice reply back.
Some good things to consider....
1. One of the most amazing parts of Drunvalo's story is his connection to tribes all over the world. According to him he was "asked" to do ceremony with global natives, by them. If the Mayan elders did give him "authority" that's a big deal.We should find out if that part of the story is true.
2. Drunvalo has such a nice air about him. You automatically trust him because he isn't self important at all. I listened to one of his guided meditations and you could really feel genuine love.I think he really believes what he says. Whether it's true or not.
3. I've had psychic training and lots of right on intuitions. And some not so right on. (Sometimes "Positive Thinking" distorts intuition because you don't want to see the truth.)
When I went to sleep after thinking, "Drun is my Guru":I saw one image of him in an orange haze with orange thin kinky hair and weasely look on his face. The reflection on it was, maybe this is unsubstantial stuff. Kinky. Had the feeling of ungrounded energy.
Later I saw an image of a dog or wolf in the woods. That was drunvalo. Leafless trees around. And a feeling of loneliness and shock.
Don't know what it means.
But.... Good to hear all sides. Guess the moral is, follow all these changes but be your own guide. Who likes Buddhism???
Last thing... Do you think Drun really went into the plasma being ships or was he astral surfing?

Excellent review!Very well
