Our Kickstarter page is now active!  Baltimore Green Currency Association is raising funds to print the first series of BNotes, which will be available in mid-April:

The idea for a local currency for the communities of Baltimore grew out of Evolver discussions at Spores on alternative economic systems.  In the last ten months, we have been able to take our thoughts about what real, local money can do for struggling local merchants and the community at large and develop a system that currently has 20 participating businesses and the strong support of local civic groups and residents.

With a Wal-Mart planned for a neighborhood adjacent to our initial launch area of Hampden, in the heart of Baltimore, we have little time to embed the BNote into the economic landscape of the city and encourage people to support small, independent shops.  We have the power to keep money circulating within our communities, as local currency is designed to, and prevent it from being drawn out by large corporations to be booked elsewhere as profit or given as executive bonuses.  You can help us, by joining us on our Kickstarter page.  Let's build one of the strongest local currencies in the nation and seed the experience to Evolver groups in other cities, so we can build real economic choice back into our communities!

We are now a non-profit under Fusion Partnerships, a collective of local change-oriented organizations, so all donations are also tax-deductible.  Thanks for your help, and if you would like to join our mailing list to keep up on our progress as we launch, just drop us a line at baltimoregreencurrency@gmail.com.

This is growing fast!

Correction: There's actually 26 businesses in the network with more on the way!

Check out some of the press we've received so far:

ABC Channel 2: http://www.abc2news.com/dpp/news/region/baltimore_city/hampden-merchants...

The Baltimore Sun: http://www.baltimoresun.com/business/money/bs-bz-bnote-local-currency-20...

The Baltimore Messenger:

And we haven't even revealed the winning design yet. :)

It's BEYOND time to create alternatives to the parasitic corporate dollar economy, and we think the Bnote is an important means to that end.

We're determined to learn tons of valuable lessons along the way and make this a flexible, replicable model for other communities.

But as much as it bothers me we REALLY need help on the money end of things to breathe life into the project. Please help us get off the ground, and we'll be sure to return the favor when your community is ready to explore the possibility of a local currency as well.

Kick in whatever you can (even just $5... ANYTHING!) and spread the link around: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/750531006/print-the-bnote-baltimore...

This endeavor will advance (IS advancing) our mutual cause whether you live in Baltimore or not.

As long as we are connected and communicating, progress anywhere is progress everywhere!

Peace and Elbow Grease,
