According to this - 'Arguelles believes that a solar flare will deliver a knock out punch to modern civilization in 2012. Satellites, the power grid, and communications will all go down, creating an irrevocable event, he said. The positive aspect of this is that we'll be placed back in "natural time" and the biosphere can clean itself of effects from the industrial/mechanized system,..'

The false prophet Arguelles and 2012

Greetings, I am very familiar with Jose Arguelles and his work. I have been tracking him and stuying his works since 1987. He is quite a character. I can attest to the the validity of his greatest work and that is his fixation of the harmonic convergence date within the Tzolkin as he defines the Tzolkin. The Tzolkin is the heart and mind of the Maya Calendar system. It is also the most obscure and least understood component of the Maya time science. His updating and first stage universalization of the Tzolkin is indeed a great, great work. I have read all of his technical texts several times over. He has many things to say about many different aspects of our phenomenal world. I cannot attest to any of his others works as they venture out into supra-theoretical fields with absolutely no attempt on his part to relate his work to our best scientific models nor does he much appreciation for peer review. That approach has relegated him to the new age looney bin. He has a very arrogant and dictatorial approach to his scholastic monologue. You and your readers should know that while he may have made one of the greatest discoveries of modern times he is also on a messianic trip. He has made many prophetic pronouncements over the years and he has scored big fat goose eggs on each one. He is wanna be new testament prophet and goes by the assumed Mayan name of Valum Votan. He also goes by about 10 other self-given titles. He found a gem in the ruins of the Maya and he wants a figurative pyramid built in his honor. He is the only scientist I have come across who devotes 50 percent of his research to demonstrate that he is the re-incarnation of 2 great meso-american kings. His proof is his own decipherment of Maya glyphs.
