John Cusack on 2012

During an interview of the cast of Roland Emmerich's 2012 Hollywood blockbuster, actor John Cusack referenced Daniel Pinchbeck's book 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl when he explained his belief that the date would bring about a shift in consciousness as opposed to a series of apocalyptic disasters.

Q: What are your personal thoughts of what will happen in 2012?

John Cusack: Do you know the book, "The Return of Quetzalcoatl"? That book, I think, is a little more in line with what I think will happen; a shift in consciousness. That seemed to be more of what I think will happen rather than an actual end of days.

great

Finally, a breath of fresh air! Don't expect this viewpoint to catch on in the mainstream arena, especially where Hollywood is concerned. Not that I was especially impressed with Pinchbeck's book, I certainly prefer it over the vast array of nonsense found in today's literary circuit when dealing with this subject. When it comes to 2012 and the shifting ages, it's always best to consult indigenous elders, for they possess the most wisdom of anybody (IMO). They refrain from sensationalism and hyperbole.

discussion

Most folks just have automatically made an assumption based upon their own uninformed bias about 2012. When I mention 2012 they usually roll their eyes before I can even have a discussion about deeper things "Nothing is going to happen!". Yet that is where the discussion ends.. and I like talking about the MEME... I guess I am geeky that way.. Most folks haven't opened one book.. they have only read some crackpot newspaper article or review of a end of the world movie.. I try very hard to get them to listen to Daniel Pinchbecks talk he gave at Burning Man about Canceling the apocalypse (among others). But they can't even go there.. or are just not interested. I can't even get them to watch something like Ian Xel Lundgolds Mayan Calender talk... Nothing. and the sad thing is.. I think that part of the whole change is HAVING deeper discussions about 2012 .. Regardless of what someone said about the "end of the world" ending on 12/21/2012.... They get so caught upon on THAT DATE and envision Y2K that you bring them into very important discussions about consciousness and human evolution.. We ARE facing some very serious issues... and they reply "but I recycle and I am a vegetarian.. I am eco conscious"... like that is all there is too the discussion. WHatever... It has been a very interesting thing to observe... an an exercise in futility. I guess I am just a GEEK when it comes to intellectual and philosophical discussions .... but I think that that is part of the process of pushing our consciousness into the next level. If you don't think, explore, investigate, push the boundaries of your own pre conceived notions.. you will not evolve.. That is MY Humble opinion... but I think it is a good theory to explore.

'Splainin' it to the unwashed

Here is how I put my thoughts on the topic to a friend recently, because, to my dismay, I am becoming synonymous with the subject to more than a few people that I know. The 2012 stuff is deep and pretty much like the rabbit hole a la Alice in Wonderland. I think it is a calling that not everyone hears. Certainly, most don't want to hear it, and I can't even say that I blame them. But, oddly enough, I do intuit that there is reason for real rejoicing in all of it, as well as the much more obvious, cause for fear of destruction. Analytically, it is like that old quote of Churchill on the actions of Russia . . . . a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma - really can't say it any better than that. You have to dig mystery to pursue the topic. I highly recommend Daniel Pinchbeck's 2012: Return of the Quetzalcoatl - a fascinating book and a good walk through all of the relevant subject matter which, if you read it, you will see, is vast and not just a horror story like the Hollywood movie about to be released on the subject. For me, it was a path I was bound to stumble upon, and so, I don't feel I've become caught up in some pop tripe, although I recognize that it is becoming arguable that that is all there is to the topic . . . I'll never buy that because of the way it came about for me. A personal journey led me to the subject matter that is now lumped under the umbrella of 2012, at least by some in some places. No one knows what is going to happen, but I'll be very much surprised if we don't undergo some sort of transformation, ultimately, with all of the signs pointing that way throughout much of recorded history and in so many different and seemingly disconnected places. I do, however, respect as much as I am able to, the visceral disdain many have for the topic. It does demand a deeper consideration and not all are willing to spend their valuable time on it, understandably. Again, some are called; most, it seems, are not.

If you're talking about the subject with someone who thinks

that they're a hardcore scientist and that you're a crazy person, I'd suggest showing them some parts of Carl Calleman's book "The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness." He's a biologist and in the book is laid out the evolution of the universe, from the big bang on, and how each development is clearly represented in the Mayan Calendar. Once you see that there is such incredible acceleration behind all the processes of the evolution and complexification of matter and life, you see that we now sit on the very edge of of a singularity, where the acceleration of change gets so fast that time is meaningless (or gone altogether).

Let people draw conclusions for themselves of what such a concrescence may bring in terms of experience, but there's no denying the historical record of the complexification of matter and it's incredible acceleration into the strange (self?)awareness that we find ourselves living with and confronting today.

08/11/3114 B.C.

What happened on August 11, 3114 BC? The Tzolkin (Mayan Long-Count Calendar) begins on this date, correct? If someone could explain why the beginning of the Mayan Calendar has importance then I'd join in on 'deeper discussions' about the end of the calendar.

2012 as a meme

I don't really understand the word "meme", but my understanding of how it's used to qualify 2012 is as set forth in my post above - it is a header under which lots of fascinating synchronistic events that are happening at large are lumped. You should read Daniel's book. I can't possibly cover it here.

The Beginning and End Date

If you add the overall span of time from the beginning point to the end point of the calendar, you end up with a number that is very close to one-fifth of a full Precessional Wobble. Now, maybe its just me, but I could swear that I remember reading something about The Ending of The Fifth Sun. Coincidence? If you havent checked out Graham Hancock's Fingerprints of the God's, you seriously should. Very interesting reading indeed.
