Insect Machine Mash-up

Using dried insects and parts from antique watches, sculptor Mike Libby creates beautiful steampunk robots. The colorful insects combined with mechanical gears create a balance between nature and machine. These lifelike robots look like something out of a science fiction story; the bugs appear as if they could come alive at any moment.
The steampunk style draws from the science fiction of the 19th century and is often reminiscent of the aesthetic of the steam powered era. Modern-day DIY ethos is combined with antique style that comes together to create a unique look and feel. Steampunk has begun to form into a culture all it's own--remixing styles and technologies from the Victorian era in a contemporary context.
