Holy Give and Take

[The Ayahuasca Monologues] • Maxi Cohen may have been one of "the chosen people" but she always felt overlooked by God. However, a chance encounter with the Santo Daime Church changed all of that. While drinking "the holy give me," she experienced a "monumental shift in the smallest fraction of a second" that ended a lifetime of seeking and brought her in direct contact with the divine. Inspiring

There are so many reasons I could say as to why I enjoyed this, so I'll try to pick out a few. As a Jew myself, who wasn't raised in a traditional home but has very intensely sought out the tradition for many years, hearing this story helped me realize how important identity is for Jews. It seems to be a central problem that almost all Jews I've met face, regardless of affiliation or religiosity or any of the other labels. It's a deep estrangement from an identity that nobody seems to really understand anymore, and this story of coming home to that identity is very deeply inspiring to me. As the psalms say, the stone that the builder refused will be the head cornerstone, as in this case something so "un-Jewish" as reaching out to Jesus as a healing spirit. I hope many more can find their choseness in the eyes of the Infinite.

Thanks

I'm loving the "Ayahuasca Monologues" series, they're all deeply moving and illuminating. All of them have struck a chord with my heart and drawn tears to my eyes.
