Holographic Landscapes

David Wexler's Holographic Landscapes present sequences from nature that fold into themselves, playing off internal symmetry and some cinematic slight-of-hand to mask the transition from a scene fully viewed, to the scene zoomed to detail, to the scene whole again, and so on. These beautiful, meditative videos are reminiscent of the optical illusion where you stare at a bi-directional spinning pinwheel and look away, watching the space around you pulse as the photoreceptors in your eyes catch a breath. But with Wexler's films no headaches are involved, only curious bemusement as you watch a branch on the ground continuously move yet somehow remain in the same place.
David uses a process he calls SSRD (Self-Similar Recursive Dissolve). Watch a video on his site that showcases the technique and check out David's other psychedelic art while you're there.
