Vanishing Act?

The oil in the Gulf seems to be vanishing, and much more
quickly than anyone had expected.
The oil on the surface of the water is dissolving, but the question
that remains unanswered is what is going on under the surface of the
water. While acknowledging that there is still a threat to sea life and the fisherman who relied on the Gulf to make a living, the mainstream press seems convinced that because the oil is disappearing from the surface the damage--while great--will not be as bad as originally feared.
There are a number of speculations as to why the oil is disappearing much more quickly than people had expected. Bacteria, storms and evaporation are just some of the possibilities. Another reason may be the 1.8 million gallons of toxic chemical dispersants that were poured into the Gulf--a story that has been underreported in the mainstream press.
In related news, on July 21st a prayer for the Gulf was held at various Evolver Spores
and regional events.The water
prayer we held across the network was simple yet powerful; we all sent
our love to the water and the creatures and the people affected by the
spill at the same time. If you want to spend a few minutes sending your
thoughts to the Gulf, you can check out this video or this sound collage made specifically for our network wide prayer.
