On Guard

Sentinels of London, an online "shrine to surveillance," points out the alarming prevalence of closed circuit televison cameras across the United Kingdom. Pictures of the cameras, maps of high-surveillance areas, and ominous CCTV signs warning of "overt filming" and plate number recognition systems make for an interesting look at "one nation under CCTV."

extradition of Gary McKinnon - subjugation/surveillance rules OK

On the subject of eroding civil liberties and increasing surveillance in the UK, could everybody who cares about this please contact their MP urgently - and request they sign Early Day Motion 2388. This EDM is to uphold the needs of those (like Gary) who have a recognised health condition which should be treated in this country. Failing this, such people are likely to face serious if not fatal deterioration of their health if sent to another country. Gary suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, and he has been severely depressed because of the six and a half years his case has dragged on. He has not been charged with any offence here, and there is no evidence that he has caused damage to US computer systems. He was a 'bumbling computer nerd' as he describes himself, not a 'terrorist' as labelled by those who want him extradited to the US. Our government will not protect our citizens, so it falls to everyone else here to stop them from selling us all down the river. As things stand, any of us could be extradited on suspicion of doing something the US doesn't like - no proof necessary. Thomas Vaughan flagged up Gary's case back in September, but it needs starting up again as there may be little time left to prevent the iniquity of his extradition - rendition, more like.
