6 "A Leafy History "

So now we get to their creation story! According to the historian, this plant was made as an agreement between the crystalline beings and the plant beings in a time before humans had dishonored the plant kingdom.

The Historian continues:

"There used to be great honor and respect between the humans and the people of the leaf, I will not go too far into how degraded this relationship has become, but know that now our people still serve the purposes of the leaf and of the Earth."

"Your minds* (Translates as emotions thought-forms and will) by contrast, are now polluted with a thick foggy stench of illusions and vices born out of vanity. This pollution is choking us even here as well as many other sacred beings throughout the three worlds. We used to work more openly with your people, but all that has changed with your abuse of fire."

Then, as if reading my thoughts, the story changes as I wonder about their motives:

"We are not weak or afraid of conflict with what is at stake. We are warriors of justice and peace. We choose non-violent ways of subduing your pandemic mental disease. We see your people's (astral) smoke pollution building up in our world that your people have created and we have found a way to use it to stop you from destroying us all."

"We only take from those who give. We only give what you have created. We obey the law of Balances. We are devotees to The Way. We have simple lives that we value and honor with beauty, significance and achievement. We are among the alliance of plant spirits who sustain this world."

Then, as if done being on a soap box, the historian continues in a more sedate pace:

"With the Abuse of Fire came many changes in the human, but that is your story not the story of the Animan. White Bear was a true Shaman; his death was a great loss to your kind. He was true when the many were not. He knew the wisdom of his ancestors, he knew the ways of this world* (astral) as you barely do and much more, he lived his life in harmony with all life. His being was at peace with all beings. His way rang in harmony with our way. He used the crystal pipe to speak in smoke to the people far away."

(**This is being shown to me via hologram; he is burning the leaf and imbibing and then he is clenching his base and his crown and creating a closed off "crystal pipe" out of his spine and sending his emotions and thoughts into a bundle of energy in his head, then wrapping that bundle around a symbol to load into the smoke via his breath to be delivered by the messenger to another, far away, who is also imbibing; in this way they can transmit through the crystals in the smoke -- this is totally different than unconsciously having your thoughts or feelings tapped or taken and then fogged. He was directly choosing which feelings, thoughts, etc., to send, copying them himself and then blowing them into the mouth of the messenger. He had clearly already made a thoroughly hashed out contract with the messenger as to what would be traded for what and done for mutual gain. )

"He knew the Old ways, the pre-time days. The ways of the Animan."

(In his case this Animan was a 'bearman' half animal -- half human etc.* This is a distinction where a human does not see itself as being 'separate' from other animals and has a profound astral union with one or more of them.)

7."The Abuse of Fire"

"Much earlier there was greater peace between our people because Man was younger and Animan was more common. We lived in great harmony and music and drank together and gazed upon the stars as brothers. (There are others who guard the gates in the plant alliance, but each of us has always had a special relationship and purpose with man that has evolved over time.) The people of the Old Hair in Africa and Australia still remember our ways. The people rooted in your continent are sadly plagued by the abuse of fire that has over-run that space. They do not feel the Earth, the womb of soil or hear the whispers of the trees or see the green people in the forest. These voices have not been silenced yet these messages have been ignored. Fire was always used to help create life in the old way. Not to obscure it! Fire was used to bring peace and union to the earth with the sacred pipe. Not to plunder it! The worst abuse of fire that even I can scarcely speak of is the use of fire with intent to dominate the earth and claim superiority over all other creatures!"

"This is the abuse that has created your people's confusion as you cling to gadgets and conveniences yet have no instinctive practices. The ways of uniting with the earth as primal beings and in rituals have been twisted into delusions of superiority instead of connection. You hold your tools of fire before you like saviors from the 'filth' of earth, and in this mind belief you develop technology! You, like spoiled children, run amuck claiming superiority over your Earth mother your Sky father and your many brothers and sisters all around you. Fire was always intended for man's use and to develop technology, but that development was meant to be guided by your greater family.

"As a result our people no longer are messengers for your people, now we are 'collectors' and the garbage grows higher with each sun. Your people largely do nothing and do not value initiative or the power of an unbroken will. Mostly that has been robbed from you, yet you defend your broken inheritance. You are caught in the trap of your own beliefs to which you are addicted ,and since this addiction and will-rejection is all that you value, this is our only way to reach many of you."

"You have grasped the gift of fire and its infinite ability to create and you have run with it like a naïve little thief afraid of slowing down and being 'caught' by the true cost it takes to properly own it and use it. Never did it occur to you that this gift of fire was always meant for you -- not because you are superior, but because your family loves you! Your kind were meant to be creators and students of your wiser brothers and sisters, the great spirit within you desired this not because you are better than others but because you are one evolving piece of the greater animal body with a purpose to create."

"You are a strong baby species, but you haven't grown up yet and your tantrums have filled three worlds with wasteful blood and mental excrement. Your people slap the faces of your larger family with each action taken in the belief that you are superior. Every creature on earth (including the plants and rocks) speaks telepathically, yet 'superior' humans have gone mute in favor of playing with fire-power. 'Housecats' and Goldfish see the beings in between worlds more clearly with astounding astral vision, and 'superior' humans are lucky if they believe in more than one world."

8. "Green Genesis"

"In the beginning of our being, there was a great union. We were to be messengers to many beings to guard the gates between worlds and to ally with the beings of the in-between."

(Nature spirits of twilight who, according to their religion, create and sustain our world ,acting as dynamic living blueprints that our world is constructed from.)

"The Guardians of Light who uphold the Crystal realms in a pact with The Alliance of Plant Spirits united their powers of creation into a new union -- birthing a new guardian plant with gifts from the crystal world and the plant world. Its birth was always intended to be a catalyst for the evolution of beings in your world."

I felt somewhat moved by the historian's speech, as if I was listening to a great religious doctrine.

"We are the people who made a pact to come to this world to make a difference -- united to uphold and maintain the sacred gates between worlds our bodies were transformed in the marriage between our original form and the sacred plant-crystal. We are the People of the Leaf! We are among the guardians of the green gates! Now we are children of this leaf and our original people are no longer in your world." We are now a mixed-breed and yet we are not the plant at all. We are here by choice, Moon by Moon we grow stronger despite all odds. In order for us to sustain our bodies and our purpose our plants must breed -- the sacred leaf must live!"

Then as if in explanation:

"The time of plant mating re-energizes our spirit's roots in this world and ensures our communication remains strong. This allows us to be messengers. This time is sacred to us and to those human allies who we bless with providing for them."

My mind started to question the historian's vaulted view of the people of the leaf; frankly, I found him a bit Pompous.

Then the Historian responded as if reading my thoughts:

"Why are we wise? Why are we the messengers? We were born by pact, marriage and power. Our power is always guided by purpose and plan. Our wisdom is woven with the secrets of leaf & stone -- the old wisdom! We bridge our two worlds by focusing light through crystals, it is through these crystals that we are able to travel and communicate. This is but one aspect of our people's inherent wisdom! Imagine if your people all had physical crystals imbedded in your bodies constantly giving you the wisdom of the ancients!

Our people gather light and knowledge from the sun and moon like plants! Imagine if your people could drink the life essence of sun and moon and taste its full secrets! Many of us are old and are like ancestors to your people, our people care for this world as well as yours and choose to activate and mobilize changes that are designed to protect what your people have lost and forgotten."

9. "A Baby's First Words"

I began to feel something rising to the surface that I needed to say:

"Well perhaps my people need to start over with believing that we are equal with and yet unique among a larger family of living beings. Maybe it would help to envision a larger world-view of humans as students of our brothers and sisters. Maybe we need to envision fire as a gift from our family and imagine the whole process of technology developing from the premise that we are baby creators seeking the wisdom of our elders: the Animal, Plant and Mineral brothers and sisters in many worlds and dimensions to guide us in developing a ‘terranology' (instead of technology) in harmony with our family's ancestral wisdom!"

"I think it would be beneficial to recreate our history and envision our timeline with the change that we maintained that point of view from when we received fire to present day. This might be a way that we could use our gift of creation as a tool in the present to inspire renewal! What would it be like if we never stole the fire? What if we were in a big council meeting and the crows and the wolves and the plant spirits and the gemstone guardians and the ancestors all were at the council and together we all came to celebrate the receiving of this gift of fire, and what if each of the beings present gave a blessing to the early humans and offered guidance in how to use fire to create community and peace and connection?"

The historian replies,

"I think it most likely that you as a species will have a lot of growing up to do before you are able to collectively reach awareness of this. Your people are still so young, this is natural, it is the way of young ones. Like the baby who knows very little about the larger world, humans of your continent especially are wrapped up in testing your boundaries with your parents and family. Even so, your family loves you, despite your tantrums. It is fortunate that they do or your species would be extinct. They are truly allowing you to continue to exist out of love for the new baby species. If Mother Earth did not love you, the insects and spores and pollens and floods would have killed your species off a long time ago. It is this love that only a mother can give that keeps you all alive."

"No you are not superior, nor have you dominated the Earth, you are fleshy, soft, little creator-babies that have made a big mess and you are being very patiently tolerated. Even your nuclear bombs have not changed this love, for even this is a part of the sun, a part of your family fire-creation inheritance. And it may take a lot of growing up till your people realize that you opened your presents early or rather under the wrong premises -- Without your Family's guidance! You are a species in desperate need of parental supervision."

Historian laughs.

I could tell he looked at me as a kindly but stern old grandfather looks at an infant, it was a strange moment, to be held in the eyes of an old green man. I felt really young, fussy and funny looking in his eyes, like I was both him and me looking at a very young baby with a million years ahead of me. And as the baby. I was just learning how to say my first words. It felt like this: "Awww, what a cute wittle baby! Look it's wandered over here all by himself and he can almost talk, how cute!" (He seemed almost like a proud Grandpa for a moment) "Now you behave little baby, lets not make a big mess now. Ok? Okay. Ahh Booo! Yeah, look at the pretty lights, that's a good baby." I could tell for the first time that he had a bit of a sense of humor too. Hmmm... ... Interesting. (I think I must fall in the "Slow Food" category.)

10 "Now What?"

After this journey, I realized that the original question had opened up a thousand more questions. While I was clear on the negative impact on the will for myself and seemingly most who imbibe marijuana, the people of the leaf weren't clearly entirely detrimental either.

It was, if they were telling the truth, more about the relationship between humans and the green gate keepers that has led to this less than ideal relationship in the North American shrine network area.

This Relationship features some larger-scale karmic "abuse of fire," an egotistical distraction of disembodied arrogant technological development with a destructive superiority complex and erroneous belief-machinery designed to distract from natural law and harmonious mentorship from our earthy and leafy teachers. In this belief option, the people of the leaf are to be seen as warrior activists who had to make a huge sacrifice to save our immature asses and are like an emergency swat team or emergency medical task force, preventing our self-destructive nature from over-coming us utterly and protecting three dimensions from our thought and emotion pollution. Even if the Historian's story is actually true, then it is only the most destitute and destructive of users who may truly benefit from their services, and the providers. Only those who require "emergency services" and growers and dealers. And it may be a fairly debilitating crutch in that you are burning willpower as a user and creating karma with the human race as a grower.

Or, on the other hand, maybe this was just a clever story -- a lie told by a smooth and powerful astral entity, who, after all was capable of reading my thoughts. This isn't really a very logical way to gather knowledge. On the physical level, I wouldn't go up to a gangster and ask if they are a good person. And if the Yakuzas or another gang sent over a lawyer or a historian, what are the odds that they would be biased? And how easy would it be to use my own reason for journeying there to create a story about their own nobility to delude me. I.e., we both are there to protect humans we care about. How compelling. It is just as arbitrary to conclude that they are saviors as to conclude that they are scheming manipulative life-force parasites that work to meet their own ends. Perhaps it is even more likely due to their historian's open admittance of selling human will in a marketplace. As someone who values his will, I find that a violation of humankind. The sad part may be that many people are consenting to it.

Psychologically, I could see that this could even be a projection, or a delusion if it weren't for the tremendous amount of detail and complexity of the world and elements that I had no knowledge of prior to this experience like the Asian setting, the story of White Bear and the Shrine Network etc. and also the number of people who were able to corroborate different aspects of this story from their own direct experiences.

I cannot verify much that the historian said, that information was second hand. What I can verify is the observations I made independently. What I can tell is that the "respect scale" seems to hold up under scrutiny and that as I continue to dig I am getting clearer and clearer about a set of Laws that operate in the green underworld. While I may not be able to dismiss the value of smoking pot altogether. I cannot in good conscience endorse its use for anyone who does not have a serious medical need for it and who values their own will and life purpose. My further investigations do not require its use, as I now have the "address," so to speak, of their world. I did not require its use before to travel -- so I do not believe that my experiences can be verified just by picking an intent and smoking.

I had travelled extensively for four years before I ever imbibed. The benefits of marijuana clearly come with a price, and I believe in either point of view that people can hugely benefit from knowing this and understanding how it works as long as they aren't deluded by their own negative ego. It is my sincere hope that I can help discover and reveal more useful knowledge about marijuana use and its effects from a shamanic perspective so that people can make an informed decision from at least one new perspective.

I choose to claim my Victory in overcoming undue attachments to emotional states! I choose to walk my path with huge courage and Glorious intention, valuing and enjoying every drop of my Will to empower and enjoy living my truest purpose fully manifest with solid Foundation on the Kingdom of Earth.

The abuse of fire

Could the abuse of fire mean atomic weapons?

Atomic Fire? Yes -and...

Literally in the vision, fire was a metaphor for creative power. So Yes, in that Atomic energy is looked upon as one aspect of the heritage of the creative power of "Human". And literally according to the historians version of the events, (unless we are talking about a pre-industrial revolution atomic energy such as pre-atlantis or something like this) this was much earlier than the atomic bombs of the day that the "Abuse of Fire" occurred. It was the superiority complex and developing technology from this mind belief that is the "abuse of fire" or the abuse of the creative power.

I welcome your open-minded skepticism

I also encourage you to not swallow if you do not wish to.

I stand behind that this is my lived experience. You can believe it or not.

You are welcome to refute me or offer another perspective. I believe the shamanic world can truly benefit from a huge dose of skepticism.

Blessings.

Cannabis is at the root of Eastern esoteric philosophy

Hinduism and Buddhism are the direct benefactors of cannabis use and the spiritual benefits derived. Cannabis is sacred to Shiva. Enough said. The most positive, powerful political action Obama could do is legalize Marijuana and begin to ween America off its cocaine addiction. Introduce a Green economy not the one now which is based on the profits of prohibition.

amen

I agree with you, & I like your idea.

Thanks highryder

I support people becoming educated and informed on cannabis use and spiritual or other benefits that may be derived. My lived experience hasn't led me to a clear answer for everyone. Only what is clear for me right now.

I also support legalization of Pot and other drugs. because making these illegal makes things worse for everyone except those who stand to profit from it being illegal. Without profit being a factor the drug has to stand more on it's own Merit.

Education not prohibition seems to work better in other countries as a means for improving things. I am curious as to your shiva-cannabis info.

Really?

Are you sure it was pot he was smoking?? That's one hell of a trip! A great story, but I'm afraid that's all I think it is. I'm always sceptical when someone comes up with such incredible fine details...it just doesn't ring true. I have no problem with people having valid experiences without the use of sacred plants (my interest in such only came out of years of having natural out of body experiences), but actively advocating 'drugless shamanism' seems a little strange to me...I don't like a preacher, whatever guise they take.

Yeah , I know. Not typical of a pot experience I'm told.

Yes it was Pot, I was smoking.

I value your skepticism. And am curious about some of your OBEs.

I tend to get details. I notice things others don't. Other's notice things I don't.

I don't mean to preach, I do have an experience an opinion and point of view.

I even advocate drugless shamanism, because I like it. If you like drug-using shamanism great. You must still get something out of that.

Blessings on your journeys

My spirit is for vacation. I would visit you in this place. Having the resort, to tourism is certainly a trek in the trade. Would that you could be wonderful, as vacations are; but then how much harshly to set upon a scar. Do or die! It's always a good time for Pi(e:)

Y'know, I looked at this and have thought about it.

Before 2005 I probibly smoked about two or three times a week. Give or take. After that I moved to a new area of the country and had to quit cold turkey. Since then I've spent time in a psyche ward, taken remeron, abilify, and am currently on effexor and ambien. I can count the friends I have on one hand, have become mysanthropic, lost hope, etc, etc. But I'm totally sober! *sarcasm*

Would he were fatter! But I fear him not:
Yet if my name were liable to fear,

So soon as that spare Cassius. He reads much;
He is a great observer

Thank you

Sending out a heart-felt thank you for sharing your experience.

Beautiful metaphor

I think your otherworldly experience was very intriguing and I thank you for sharing it with us.I find the message your historian friend had for humanity and those that partake of shamanic substances very interesting. The idea that we have fallen out of balance with natural forces and become wildly reckless is certainly at the core of the "repair effort" a lot of us feel is needed in our culture.

I like the idea that the higher realms of consciousness accessed while in the "second attention" is a fluid "network" that other entities and spirits interact with. And not out of sync with most occult thought. However, I would caution against immediately taking a turn toward judgment. Your experience was subjective (that's not to say without universal merit) and should be interpreted on multiple levels. Malicious or not, aren't ALL entities simply one part of the WHOLE? In which case, these green men are a part of our collective psyche. Not unimportant or illegitimate, but still something to regard with "many minds", not a singular perspective that seeks to qualify or judge.

Namaste. :)

To Ogg, observing, verifying and understanding

I like the description of "fluid networks". And I, too, found the Historian's message interesting. Your caution against early judgment is well received. I fully encourage interpretation on many levels and agree that we are all connected. Perhaps these leafy beings are a part of our collective psyche. Perhaps they reflect my views on the state of the world and humans' disconnection to a neglected "natural intelligence." If it is only this, then this may not be so remarkable. We all see through our own experiences. What is intriguing to me is the possibility that it is something more.

How can this be verified? What methods have I used?

Too numerous to mention here. Or tonight in this one post, But I will briefly speak about one of the ways horribly simplified:

I work with many kinesthetic means of determining information. The body wisdom is very much a big part of my approach to healing because the body is difficult to fool. I have found that the mind and ego are much more easily duped. Part of my practice involves creating a language of body sensations that are triggered by stimuli from specific kinds of subtle energies. Let's say the sensation of being watched gives me a tingle on the back of my neck, for instance. Then, if I feel that tingle, I can more reliably tell that I am being watched, or something similar may be occuring. And after verifying this by turning around to see someone trying to sneek up on me to give me a kiss, this adds to a body of knowledge about what kinds of experiences correspond to this tingle. By carefully observing subtle body sensations that are felt physically, I have found that the human body is constantly recording tremendous amounts of information about our surroundings, as well as less physical phenomena, such as being watched, or emotions, or even a "presence." It is my experience that my body is communicating about this subtle energy, and this is useful to me when I discover how to pay attention to it. By using therapeutic gemstones to stimulate specific layers and types of measurable fields of subtle energy in my aura, I can learn a "scale of energies," just as someone can learn to hear relative musical notes with ear training. I find these layers and fields also are a microcosm of the dimensional aspects of reality. Over time, feeling this way, combined with observation, gives me an increasingly more accurate set of tools. In fact, I have developed a complex language. Each type of sensation is an instrument that can reveal a kinesthetic picture that speaks a thousand words. These instruments can be further used to cross-verify data, as each offers a different point of view. All this being said, no system is entirely fool-proof. I am always excited to broaden the sharing of information and the verifying of useful understandings of what it means to be a human and truly a multi-dimensional being.

I have also wondered how clearly I can learn to sense and work with these fluid networks by learning about the body's Meridian system or perhaps other similar web-like aspects of the self, like the Web of Indra.

The reason I have expounded upon some of my methods of verification is to encourage you and others to verify this information for yourselves with ample knowledge of some of the ways in which I have gone about observing. I firmly believe that I sensed - and continue to sense - a presence of some form of sentient life, existant on an emotional layer of being, commonly known as the Astral. What that is, exactly, is a very interesting question that I find worth exploring. Many blessings.

Second-handed helpers!

Thank you for a beautiful and multi-layered post. I do see through my own eyes. And, I am not alone in the world - I benefit from learning and sharing with my peers, loved ones, and allies. Most of my traveling I do via soul-travel, or remote viewing which requires no allies. I specifically chose allies for this journey because I felt them suitable to help understand, translate, and efficiently navigate a world where their senses and skills would be useful.

Regarding MJ's playful spirit, I believe that MJ's nature as a filter-buster is useful and specific in busting the filter by creating a portal between the human and one specific state of being related to the specific plant embibed. It is particularly useful to those who are unaware of other ways of accessing information and experiences on other levels of our human reality. Like many plant spirits, it seems most useful to create first contact with another aspect of the self or reality. I personally have found its scope too narrow and its effects too unsustainable for me to value it - particularly as a filter-buster. I get bored with the Astral plane, and it only seems to go to very limited regions of this dimension. I have been to temples on the Astral plane that dwarf anything I have seen on Earth or in the Green Underworld: huge universities, healing temples, and museums. My experiences of the Astral plane, prior to MJ, have been glorious and enlightening, while the land of the leafy people was like a dim and very small reality. So far, MJ seems to me to be like a baby step for humanity, and to really honor what the gift represents is to understand its scope and purpose. I see it as something to use to get things started, to verify the existence of the larger reality. I see the exciting possibility of working with more sustainable less toxic and more effective filter-unfolders that allow for this kind of awareness all the time, and I intend on continuing to discover and share this knowledge with more people.

I find spirit animals are useful second-hand helpers because they share aspects of myself on several dimensions. They effectively extend my sensory range and available skill sets. In a way, they are not second-hand, and in a way, they are. In my way of working with spirit animals, they are not conceptual or constructs to expand upon my confidence in sensation. They represent a union. A contract has been made between entities to share information and sensation, as well as a dedication and acknowledgment of the sacredness of this union and the reality and equality and brotherhood of sentient beings who, I believe, are extended family to Human.*Human stands between the worlds. A bridge. A part of all of them.

*I find Human to be a largely misunderstood word. "Hu" is a sacred word, as is "Mana." Hu is the sound of hidden knowledge, and a lovesong to the Creator; a connector to the source, an ocean of love and mercy, an infinite sea of souls. Mana is the memory - the connection to the Akashic Records; the cause and effect, destiny and purpose and Will given to the individuated creator-gods called Human.

Path of Philosophy and Poetry

I think you might really enjoy Universal Kabbalah. One of the pillars of this system is the "pillar of philosophy", as a whole -actually being initiated into the tree of Life as a Kabbalist- acts as a system for understanding symbols in life. Which makes for beautiful poetry.

If you are intrigued let me know.

-We dance in a ring and suppose but the secret sits in the middle and knows-

Blessings on your path,

For both parts 1 and 2

I find articles like this to be supremely unhelpful, personally. Certainly this author's visions have no bearing on what I have experienced myself: astrally, psychically, or physically.

Perhaps I am simply being fogged by little green men.

Vision-quests of this nature are meant to impart wisdom to the viewer; and they do so using visions and symbols that have meaning on a personal level.

I strongly believe they cannot simply be applied to everyone else; nor can they be declared as empirical truths. They may impart some principles that are general to all (such as man being out of balance and overly dependent on the element of fire to maintain our supposed separation...isn't that among the foundational memes of this entire site?), but that would be the exception: idiosyncracy is the rule.

I agree completely, however, with the assessment of being polite and respectful to the author, and with not censoring the articles. (Although I must say -- on a personal and extremely selfish note -- having my article apparrently turned down, and then seeing something like this up...well, that is irritating. But, then, I obviously am biased.)

Still, just skip it, if it looks like its going to be on a vibration you don't appreciate. There are plenty of good articles; and I'm sure to some this one was among them.

We mustn't become that which we despise.

Did the historian look like this?

Appearances...

No, They have lamp like yellow eyes. No pupils really and they glow. Not just like a cats eyes relecting light, they are actually more back lit like an interior light is shining out. They were not wearing clothes. They were not that proportionately short either. While only a foot to a foot and a half tall, they were skinnier and more proportionate to a human body. They also appear to have almost leafy like growths that cover the body. Their movements are very quick and graceful and between cat-like and insect-like. They appear to be very strong in an odd way. They move like they are more solid than any creature I know of that size- like they are made of partly of stone. They are more of a grass green than the sage color of your Yoda pic there. And their is a variance in hue of green in a lot of leafy texture to the body's skin or covering (whatever they call that stuff). They have sort of leafy like spines that look a little like hair in various patches too. The spines and leafy parts wiggle a little and the body is harder in appearance. If you squinted, you might think you were looking at a bush and two fireflies. Very Camo. Some of them also often had little charges of electrical energy that seemed menacing. These were what I called shrine guardians. The historian himself was almost charming looking for one of these green guys. His leafyness and spines were more withered looking. He also had more prominant eye spines, which made him appear more human like and less "wild animal like". The general appearance of these beings does not seem human even though there are rough semblences. Yoda is a plush toy compared to the people of the leaf. The overall effect of their completely unique appearance is that they are "haunting". Their appearance is peircing and startling. They are not cute. They have an aspect of them that does make them feel like a "people". The intelligence and emotions and humor were similar, yet even these qualities were very distinctly theirs.

This actually makes quite a lot of sense. A sort of barter, if you will. At first when I read it I thought it was kinda nutty, but then when I retold it to a friend in my own words we both saw the truth in it. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Yeah!

That is the part that stands out to me too.

And that is a part I have delved into more in another section on their law and how to negotiate with them.

Thanks for reading about it!

A novel interpretation.

I'm a published fantasy novelist. The depiction of alternate realities is my stock in trade. I acknowledge that the exploration of new directions in fiction is an important pursuit for practitioners of the novel. I'm just a bit surprised that this piece was published. Besides the obvious consideration of the misleading banner under which it was presented there are glaring, jarring inconsistencies in characterisation, spelling, grammar, plot and, above all, narrative.

When I consider that RS rejected a serialisation of my latest published novel I wonder how this poorly presented piece came to be shared in such a raw, unfinished and rather "dumbed-down" form. I don't want anyone to think I'm miffed that my book wasn't published by RS- after sixteen published novels, rejection isn't an issue for me anymore. I'm just confused about the editorial standards at RS.

Please RS. If you're going to publish fantasy-fiction do so openly and with appropriate caveats attached. Fantasy-fiction can be a powerful way to open gateways to other realities. Equally it can be an effective tool for the subversion of truth when presented as sworn testimony. Witness the propaganda of the Bush era. One last thing- for pity's sake remember that your readers are seeking quality as much as quality.

Novel Ideas

I am not a novelist,

or a published author. I am a healer, lightworker and Shaman. I am grateful for the fantasy novels ability to offer new ways to exercise the faculty of the imagination. Once the imagination is supple and flexible enough to possibility- then it can become like a usable film to receive subtle impressions as the journey to self discovery can open the aperture to hidden worlds of light. Without Fantasy to remind us of possibility, we might forget the rich impressions of the underworlds and other dimensions. In a time that has been characterised by slavery; a divide and conquer of the mind; and the purchasing and monetizing of the imagination, the permission to dream and imagine offered to adults without being looked at as a "nut" is hugely valuable and inspiring to me.

May your craft bring you happiness, success and serenity.

Shoot me in the fucking head

I don't mean to be meanspirited, a downer, or completely cynical (rather than simply skeptical), but if you wanted to parody Reality Sandwich, or mock neo-shamanism/psychonauts/New Agism/hippies in general, you really couldn't do better than this pair of articles.

I could see this kind of navel-gazing (more like navel spelunking) in response to a truly reality-altering experience, say DMT or salvia or whatever. To speak this way about marijuana is simply pretentious and embarassing. How does Daenin Tejada respond to a cup of coffee? How about a shot of liquor? What spirit animal, metaphorical or not, does he conjure to assist him when he takes a nasal decongestant?

As I stated in my subject line, shoot me in the fucking head. If this kind of self-indulgent aesthetic-diarrhea-masquerading-as-spirituality is the end product of a visionary world view, then count me way out.

And, just like the rest of

And, just like the rest of society, why don't we cast the addicts into the abyss? Why try to understand why they have become what they are? Why look into the misery they suffer, the agony that has brought them to this place?

They are not 'fit to tie the shoe of a real practictioner'. Begone with their kind!

If they need a crutch, then they are weak; and we are better rid of them!

Transformation is a process of evolution...not exhortation. Consider a bit of compassion to go along with that self-righteousness.

We are all dependent on something.

Even without the extended somewhat fascist dependencies we have created into addict status we are still all dependent on something. Their is no amount of high and mighty BS that can separate us from this. We all are dependent on air for instance. We all have dependencies at certain times and one of the more mysterious and irritating subjects for many is "love". Is that a dependency or addiction? Babies die without it. Is the Earth addicted to the Sun? Without it we all die. Are animals dependant on plants? Without them they die. In the end we are all interdependent on one another. Is it so foreign or mysterious to suffer and fill a void? And if there are those who are suffering, how can we divide ourselves and expect peace and quiet to "live our lives"? Perhaps separitism is our addiction. The mirror sometimes reflects what we have harshly judged about ourselves. I agree with you that compassion is key. Understanding validation acceptance a sense of divine perfection, these are all realizations that come with Love of the higher self and also can be addictions when perceived from a state of Lack. Victory trumps Lack!

We used to live in a time when lack was more of an actual thing. Now it is just pointless. We have the resources and technology to feed and take care of everyone if money were not the objective. People are starving, children are dying in huge numbers from hunger! That and of preventable and curable diseases. Our addiction to profit and our blind acceptance of a inherantly enslaving interest and debt-based monetary system which creates scarcity helps to pass on the neuroses of lack from generation to generation. Since the majority of us were born into this, it may be difficult to imagine a world without it. Of course people feel lack and want to self medicate and find answers. I choose to co-create something more liberating for people than our current monetary system. It is totally corrupt. We have become addicts of it and it breed separation lack and environmental distruction. As odd as it may seem I look to the addicts, criminals, crazy people and the shaman and poor people as leaders in waiting. They know the system doesn't work. first hand. We need their perspective and voice. They are the answer. The answer is simple. Make it work for everyone. Humanity can hugely benefit by embracing class peace opening up class communication and co-creating a system of resource based economy in harmony with nature and encouraging humanitarian empowerment.

When this is complete we may see far fewer addicts.

Yes I am saying we are training and teaching people to be addicts by participating in our current system of deranged and enslaving economics. I also believe in focussing on boycotting the major players in the global corporotocracy who are benefiting from this. City bank, JP Morgan Chase, and Bank of America.

We aren't really addicted to drugs we have been addicted to money-that-is-debt. We have been addicted to a system of lack.

I also suggest creating grass roots organizations to establish community networks between classes that try out other models of sustainable economics. When we solve the economic problem the addict problem will improve and so will crime. Maybe then it will be easier to see the New Emergent Shamanism through all the self medicating financially poor shaman-addicts trying to figure out how to get out of lack.

There are responsible shaman and addicts and everything in between. I choose Understanding and voting for each others Victory. May all of us be Victorious. May we all enjoy our path and recognize our Blessings and the choices that offer greater freedoms.

Grateful for a profound, astounding essay.

Thank you very much Mr. Tejeda, Wow. Really, marvellously spot on the money. Thoroughly enjoyed that; want to see much more like it. Isaiah said there'd be stuff like this.

I'd expected the accusing reviews and mocking comments, but that's what happens when a sacred cow is scrutinized.

In Greek mythology Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gifted it to Man, enabling him to become civilized. Atomic weapons are but one facet of Man's technology.

I find echoes of Historian's language in other accounts of plant devas, e.g. the Findhorn experience. The Findhorn devas also warned of a disconnect with Man endangering all kingdoms and which the plant kingdom would have to remedy in painful ways - unless Man did so first.

I see correlation in this essay with the jinn of the pre-Muslim Arabs, Shinto earth spirits, the devas of India, the Green Man of Britain, and of course Doreen Virtue's fairies, among others.

Never did I feel this essay to be a vehicle for preaching, for denigrating addicts, or for any other agenda besides the one clearly stated - or of the author having schizophrenia or any other mental illness. However, I do find the bulk of responses to be "negative-ego" based (self-defeating subconscious beliefs, such as low self-esteem - causing, for example, overcompensating superciliousness when someone else does well at something one has given up trying to accomplish themself). Indeed, rehab and drug addiction counselors might easily recognize stereotypical attributes such as denial and the ubiquitous Poor Me attitude.

My guess is the author doesn't want to see addicts suffer any more than people in general want to see anyone else in general suffer. Information is empowering; addiction is disempowering. This essay is attempting to avert addiction - don't shoot the messenger! Most adults are aware that addiction isn't consciously chosen but often a reaction to psychic pain. We are all affected by the addict's struggle and most of us struggle with pain and/or addictions too.

I've heard that tobacco also has its daemons. Now, no one take offense. Just my saying that doesn't mean I hate tobacco smokers. I wrestled with that daemon many years and finally - with LOTS of outside help (supplements, and the prayers of a group of people for 3 months)- overcame it, and I'm alive today because I did.

Why do innocents suffer? There's individual karma and group karma. Family, neighborhood, city, county, state, national, and planetary karma. How many contracts are entered and sacrifices made on unconscious levels, on group-mind levels?

Addiction is wrought with delusion. Shamanism is an indigenous medical method to reduce suffering. But let's not pretend to be shamans if we're really addicts. Let's not justify addiction that way. Physician, heal thyself!

Thanks again, Mr. Tejeda.

The article was fine, on the issue of addicts. I think it is a bit of a melodramatic way of presenting the information, but I didn't think it was down on addicts. Or, at least, not in an uncompassionate manner. It is some of the comments that seemed, to me at least, to be unfairly harsh on addicts.

I know this about addiction: every addict I have ever known to get clean -- and, more importantly, stay clean -- did so when they began to realize their own self-worth. When they began to believe that a) they could do it, and b) were special enough to be worth the effort.

Rhetoric calling them unfit to tie shoes and condemning their habit tends to --about 90% of the time -- simply drive them further into their vice, and causes them to feel more alone. It increases their perceived need to numb themselves, to escape.

If you really want to help an addict, try to remember that. There is a bit of tough love that comes into play...but it should be tough love; not anger or condescension.

And I notice the non-smokers getting pretty uppity about their 'sacred cow' of not smoking. Funny how that works, I guess.

conflicted response

I see your response as conflicted in that you say you never saw these articles as being about addiction and then proceed to respond to them as if they are, in fact, all about addiction. Which is it? I think it is presumptuous in the extreme to suppose that anyone who partakes of the weed is an addict.

It is this one.

My comment was responding to other commentors who have brought up, sometimes vociferously, the subject of addiction in their responses to these articles.

And I said it wasn't down on addiction, or at least not in an uncompassionate way. It quite clearly deals, as one of its subjects, with the idea of addiction.

I replied to desiescobedo's article but it got relegated below others' replies, I guess.

About Tobacco Spirits

As irritating as it is sometimes is to come out and say the words "I see things". It is true. I do. Pretty much all the time now since 1993. I don't like to say those words because I don't like being lumped in with really ungrounded people. Everyone can learn how to do this, I know because I teach people how to do this.

I am choosing to share more of my experiences now and am trying out really owning all that I am, so here goes. Here is another area I have explored.

Tobacco Spirits are misunderstood.

Tobacco is a very young Masculine Spirit and very fiery already. It is very much like a young warrior.

Before burned I have witnessed that this spirit of tobacco before it is burned is like an inseminating force if offered to a deva of a particular area of land. Nature is predominantly feminine. So masculine essence is valuable. This makes it an excellent offering to a deva.

Once burned it riles up the warrior and he rides up into the sky to be heard. If the warrior is caged in or poisoned as in cigarettes smoked indoors, this can create an angry warrior situation. It depends also somewhat on the intent of the person and their qualities. I once stayed in a house here in Seattle where a woman chain smoked indoors to the detriment of her daughters health. It was an awful and misrable situation. I used to watch these dark grey smoke warriors wrestling and tumbling into and out of the ceiling above the chair where she sat and watched TV and they were not happy. I was surprised to see them at all. I also have smoked the Chanupa peace pipe. Which includes tobacco and other herbs with it. Just like a young warrior lost and alone can be dangerous, so to can the Tobacco spirit if burned and smoked especially without it's spirit brothers and sisters. In the Chanupa there are also other herbs that are smoked. The spirit effect is completely different. I will not share these here out of respect for the tradition of secret and sacredness of the Lakota ways.

It was my experience that Smoke spirits in a teepee behave differently than in a square home. A teepee gathers the warriors and spirals them and then releases them to the Sky Father. Like a funnel upside down.

Shaman also usually create a circle of some kind to create protection before engaging in working with a smoke spirit -tobacco or otherwise. This is not a part of the standard american cigarette smoking practice. Even someone attempting to do this with a cigarette would have difficulty because of the many poisons put into cigarettes on purpose and because often people are so disconnected from the sacredness of the land that they have lost the "feeling of it" and therby also the ability to understand the relationship to the plant medicine with much accuracy.

Poisons vs naturals I've noticed that the angry effect still happens somewhat with natural tobacco when smoked alone. Especially if smoked indoors it is less though. the poisons in the modern cigarette make the spirits behave like young testosterone-laden warriors on Caffeine.

On Reluctant Shamanism and Other Being correlations...

At first when my senses re-awakened as an adult, and I "felt" little beings around I just wanted to hide or pretend it wasn't happening. Now I am excited to codiscover with grounded individuals what a marvelous world we live in. Now it's more accepted.

Shamanism has come of age as a buzz word. Even Corporate People are intentioning to become more shamanic. I worked at a large Spa in Seattle and the director held a big lunch and got all the employees and contractors together even the massage therapists (like me). She then said to everyone to very mixed response. " I want you all to thnk of yourselves as Shaman. This is what the people want! " she said. As if shamanism was a marketable quality that would increase sales. I was both delighted and horrified. Delighted that a desire to understand and experience some natural world connection and spiritual experience via shamanism has increased to such a degree that it was being brought up in a business meeting. And kinda horified that it was a sales tactic, I guess in a way we are all shaman. I remember my response was something like" I don't think that will be a problem" and smiling.

I wonder if many people feel like I did, hoping that there is a way to understand this peculiar feeling of a "larger world view" and have some glimpses of it beyond the "normal acceptable amounts"?And then feeling tremendous pressure to hide what I have had the fortune to reclaim from adult mind disease. Now, far from feeling crazy I feel pretty relaxed and matter of fact about my experiences at this point.

I think that the People of the Leaf are probably one and the same as these beings that are cousins to the shinto spirits. I did a little surfing around to find any references to any "little green men" found before. The closest I have come to a match is a reference to a race of beings called Mogwai. -Which the gremlin story is based on. (no they don't look exactly like the gremlins in the movie) The Mogwai are mentioned as being Chinese in origin. I had guessed Japanese. Here is a link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mogwai_(Chinese_culture)

I have heard many references to Yoda or Gremlins. It kinda makes me wonder if someone was smoking some fine herb and saw a little bit too clearly.

If so, neither really captured them acurately from my point of view. Maybe with modern cgi animation we could get a real semblance.

Pokemon as Shinto Kami

Talking about this with my family we remembered how the popular Pokemon characters were based on Shinto Kami, or Japanese nature spirits.

Pokemon/Kami

Here, for example, is Chinchou, a water-sprite...adorable, non?

"Shinto dates back to the first millennium BC and though it was modified by the import of Buddhism in the sixth century AD, it still remains the state religion of Japan...[emphasizing] the natural world, which is infested with nature spirits, or Kami. One ancient chronicle records: "Myriad spirits shone like fireflies and every tree and bush could talk." It's not surprising, then, to find dozens of Pokemon who are talking plants and trees: trees that can hypnotise, flowers whose pollen sends everyone to sleep. There are many episodes of Pokemon which deal with Shinto-type nature religion. In one, a group of "fairy" Pokemon are discovered in a mountain where they worship the moon. In another, the 10-year-old hero of the TV series and film Ash Ketchum (we follow his attempts to become a Pokemon master) trails his own pet Bulbasaur to a secret ceremony where other Bulbasaurs chant their name over and over to the moon, in a zone surrounded by a thicket of sentient thorns..."

Post modern neo ... anti -hip

Being Hip meant ... literally be able to dig it in the garden with ones brother and sister ... no more no less

.The hips are relative to the 1st yogic chakra, at the very base of the spine ... the bottom line of leaving or staying true to ones indigenous organic sense of relation to earth.

This is not a trend or a fad or a lifestyle ... but each and every one of us being able to tune in to this basic sense.

It is truly a shame many couldn't get past the immediate social phenomenon relatively associated with this awakening.

Cool meant literally being free from excessive desire ... now-a-days hot cars are called cool ... hot chicks are called cool ... piles of hot cash ... really cool

... except we keep getting more and more jaded and therefore have to "chill"

Back to the old "abuse of fire" suggestive argument/supposition

Yuppies say yes/yup to everything else but.

So any anti-hip person is a yuppie .. post modern ... neo ... whatever ... we are all always in the same boat.

These two essays look familiar...

They look like a RS-lexicon version of the Postmodern Generator:

All judgement aside...

I think enough has been said about the voice of the author in presenting his material and the negative-ego responses.

But in regards to the inherent message of the article, I find it interesting to consider that the many other shamans/imbibers/etc have received similar messages from "the others" of the spirit/nature world. In fact, this exchange with the Historian reminds me of Daniel's message on the Amazon river from the nature spirits who imparted to him that they were tired of taking care of the Earth, tired of holding it together for us while we, as the infant species, throw our tantrums and abuse our Mother.

This is profound. It begs the question... how much is Mother willing to take before reprimanding us? How much are our nature spirits cousins willing to put up with before stepping in to clean up our spilled milk?

How much is the Mother willing to take

Not much, I suspect (and hope). It is high time humanity got over its collective self, and back into a real relationship with the Mother and the rest of her Children...before it is too late, and She just tosses us out on our collective ears.

Its us we are trying to save. The Earth itself is pretty dern tough. Our own existence is the fragile, dependent one...and the one hanging in an ever-more-precarious balance.

"You must *be* the change you wish to see in the world." Mahatma Gandhi

Good question!

The sentiment from the leafy ones seemed to be more accepting due to some huge agreement or covenant made with Human. I got the sense that they were claiming to be supportive of us for the long haul no matter what, yet they didn't have to like it. It was like they looked at us as freeloaders on welfare or taking long showers during a draught. My sense with the plant spirits and flower spirits Tree spirits etc. is that they are hugely compassionate beings with great love for humans for the most part. I think they feel sorry for us and our apparent ignorance of what we actually are and being stuck in a monodimensional mechanistic understanding of human anatomy and consciousness. I think many of them are truly horrified by our behavior too.

In working on a wand project. I went out to gather sacred wood and found that knowing how to make a proper offering to the tree spirits and the devas went a huge distance into getting to the information and kind of tree that I was looking for to make the wands. I noticed that in the city that tree spirits seemed delighted and surprised to see a human "talking to them" and attempting to learn their customs and ways. Some spirits were more understanding than others yet there was always this huge sense of that they understood that their was a "rightful place" of kinship between us. A very compelling willingness!

My choice is to proactively behave as a more harmonious human now. I do not require an ass kicking from spirit beings, other people or myself.

I am all I require.

May I move in harmony with the will of Father Sky and the will of Mother Earth!

All Y'all Hatas

I'm just going to start an all out flame war here.

First of all, AMEN to the guy who "called out" the fake shamans. (And, no, that doesn't mean I think that I am a real shaman. I am an inquisitive sub-initiate with the ability to detect bullshit, an ability some of you "seekers" really ought to seek out. Believe it or not, it is a gift that has massive spiritual benefits.)

Secondly, let me make the provocative assertion that in terms of clarity of ideas and overall articulateness, Mr. Tejada is a distant second to Lil Wayne. (And because I know that a lot of people of here cannot "read" or "understand it when people talk" let me clarify that statement: Lil Wayne is smarter and a better writer than Mr. Tejada. And he smokes a loooooot of weed.)

As for my own marijuana usage, let me say the following:

1. It is very good, up to a point, for focus and study. For example, smoking a little (a bowl, let's say) and then reading a book or playing a musical instrument. After a certain point though, all clarity and/or grasp of the moment is lost, at least for me.

2. It absolutely unlocks rhythmic abilty, as well as body awareness (i.e., good for dancing, good for being able to tap different rhythms with different limbs, good for coordination). Again, up to a point!

3. It is great for sex, bad for inter-personal communication.

4. It can, in certain personalities, increase self-consciousness and self-regard to the point of complete social awkwardness and the inability to relate verbally to others, except in an absurdist, non-literal way. Other people (i.e., not me) find it has the opposite effect.

5. There is a massive variety of effect from strain to strain, and also a massive difference between the effect of top-quality "craft" weed and low-quality bulk weed.

If anything I said is a repeat of something that Mr. Tejada said, then I apologize. However, never underestimate the value of good prose! Clear expressions of thought! The absense of muddled semi-nonsense! The "way" a thought is expressed is really just as important as the thought itself.

And before you crusty hippies (and I like the Grateful Dead as much as anyone, so keep that in mind when you try to decide if you are one of the people I am insulting) start to stone me for being a rationalist, or for being a mean dude, just remember that the "way" is the same as the "dharma" or the "tao" or "logos" or anything else.

William Blake saw the universe in a grain of sand, not a mound of mushy poop.

"Fake Shamans"

Well, I agree with much of what you say.

Please, however: define 'real shaman' and 'fake shaman'. Is that a line we can even realistically draw?

Don't virtually all 'real shamans' begin as 'fake shamans', and have themselves transformed (sometimes unintentionally) by the path they then find themselves on? Certainly that has been what I have observed. We all start off with selfish motivations and naive conceptions that, over time and experience, we move past and come to understand in new ways.

I think this idea of 'fake' vs 'real' shamans is very destructive and divisive. Who gets to say who is false and who is true? What traditions and methods are to be respected, and which to be discarded? Who has the authority to declare one or the other? Is a shaman who is doing things differently from the way we do fake?

Or perhaps are we the fake ones, without even realizing it?

No...not in my opinion, anyway. Anyone attempting to study life and transform themselves is a shaman. Anyone who is at least trying to look beneath the surface of things is a shaman. Anyone trying to reconnect with the larger world, and find their place in it, is a shaman.

We may not get it all exactly right in the beginning...but that is part of the process of discovery.

And I think Blake would have seen the Universe just as much in a mound of mushy poop as in a grain of sand.

"You must *be* the change you wish to see in the world." Mahatma Gandhi

Sorry for the divisiveness

What I mean by "Real vs. Fake" is that some people attempt to make a show of their mysticism in the act of expressing it. They put up a smoke screen of attempted mystery rather than simply and clearly saying what they have to say. I suppose the real line I am drawing is between people who express themselves simply and clearly, and those who pump out a bunch of what Tom Wolfe called "mysto steam" along with their points or questions or assertions. In the case of this pair of articles, I think that a lot of meaning is lost because of all that steam - the Ravens and Wolves and Leaf People and other somewhat embarassing images.

However, I admit to being a much better writer than I am a shaman, so bear that in mind. I hope to serve all of you by criticizing your prose. Or your poetry. And to serve our planet, and our Mother, and whoever else. Maybe even the Ravens and Leaf People.

As for Blake, I agree that he may have ended up seeing the universe in the mush, but he GAINED his awareness by observing it in something simple and clear and specific. To start in the mush is like diving into the deep end - some people may figure out how to tread water in time, but others will drown.

To put it differently, it's probably a good idea to smoke weed BEFORE you drink ayahuasca, although some people could handle the latter more easily, and some people couldn't handle either one.

"What I mean by "Real vs.

"What I mean by "Real vs. Fake" is that some people attempt to make a show of their mysticism in the act of expressing it. They put up a smoke screen of attempted mystery rather than simply and clearly saying what they have to say."

Then I concur. Persons attempting to appear more 'wise' and 'evolved' by using purposefully obfuscatory (is that a word?) language are a personal pet peeve of mine as well (unless it is meant to be poetry or fantasy-fiction).

But, to others, it might suddenly make the whole idea make perfect sense.

It is a hard line to draw...but I do agree with your sentiment, on a personal level.

The same, without the insults

Never underestimate the value of good prose!

Clear expressions of thought!

The absense of muddled semi-nonsense!

The "way" a thought is expressed is really just as important as the thought itself.

Remember that the "way" is the same as the "dharma" or the "tao" or "logos" or anything else.
