Global Farm-Trotter

WWOOF [World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms]connects people interested in sustainable agriculture with farms around the globe. You can travel around the world practicing sustainability in diverse ecosystems while exploring different cultures. Here is an opportunity to support organic farming worldwide and then bring new skills back home. Regardless of your reason or your age, if you are a city or country dweller, potential farmer or rooftop gardener, from Belize to Nepal, Denmark to Kazakhstan, there is a farm waiting for you.

My friend
Right on
My WWOOF-ing experience was phenomenal, and I'm grateful for this post as I am often shocked at how few travelers are aware that the organization exists.
Then again, while backpacking last year I also met folks who were "WWOOF-ing their way around the world" so to speak, needing to pay only for transportation costs from farm to farm.
And for people living in the US, WWOOF-USA appears to have over 700 farms listings...these are likely the people who you meet selling their fruits and veg at your local farmer's market, and if you become a WWOOF member, you can arrange to volunteer for them for days, weeks, months at a time. They feed you! I think WWOOF is a damn good example of grassroots, low-cost, nature-based education...much needed, eh?

Glad you posted this Mary Beth I came close to WWOOFing out in Hawaii many years ago, but never did it Still think it is really cool though.
P.S. If ya'll have the time to read my interview with Michael Muhammad Knight on the main page. I think he is on to some cool stuff and that his thoughts add to our discussions here on the site.
Thank You
