A Giant Moon Mirror

In order to make a telescope large enough to look at galaxies over 13 billion years old, when our universe was only 1 billion years old, scientists would need a mirror approximately 100 meters wide – the size of a football field and nearly 50 times as large as the Hubble’s mirror.
However, the technology is actually being conceived of to make a mirror this large upon the surface of the moon!
Imagine the Mirror of Galadriel from the Lord of the Rings, but make it as large as a football field. That’s just what scientists are proposing. The idea is to make a pool mirror with silver and ionic (non-evaporating) liquid. The giant moon mirror would be not only the deepest look into the cosmos – and the psyche – but perhaps the weirdest and most fantastic looking technological device ever created.
In Richard Tarnas’ latest book, Cosmos and Psyche, he calls the Hubble telescope perhaps the “greatest achievement” of human science and technology. Tarnas is quick to suggest that with greater views to the depths of the cosmos comes greater knowledge of the space within us, within our psyche.
If the invention of the Hubble telescope is thought to be a measurement of humanity's collective striving for self-realization, then we should all hold our breath with this latest idea for new telescopic technology.
