Fugs Play Brooklyn
On Wednesday April 29, 2009, at 9 pm, the legendary underground rock band the Fugs will play a set at the Bell House in Brooklyn. Proceeds go to assist in the payment of health care costs for Fugs guitarist (and RS editor) Steve Taylor's nephew Rory O'Sullivan who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. Also on the bill are Acrylics, Golden Triangle, White Williams, Mount Olympus, Further Reductions, George Positive, Spider Fang, DJ Ben Brunnemer and Alex Dirttt.
Tickets cost $20. For ticket info, go to: http://www.rock4rorz.com/
Few people are aware that brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor cancer death in children under the age of 20, the second leading cause of cancer death in male adults ages 20-29, and the fifth leading cause of cancer death in female adults ages 20-39. Two-hundred thousand people are diagnosed with a brain tumor every year in the US, and there are over 120 different types of brain tumors, making effective treatment complicated. At this time, brain tumor research is underfunded and the public remains unaware of the magnitude of the disease.
The April 29 event will be the Fugs' first New York appearance since we played the Knitting Factory in 1994. (See the Times review of that show here.)
