The Fourth Kind

On November 6th, Universal Pictures will release The Fourth Kind, a film based on actual incidents in Alaska involving alien abduction. The story stars Milla Jovovich playing the role of actual psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler as she videotapes sessions with traumatized patients who claim to have been abducted. She uncovers that the individual accounts bare eerily similar resemblances to one another. The trailer for the movie concludes with Dr. Tyler claiming to have an encounter herself.

In real life, the FBI has been following the real incidents in Nome, Alaska since the 60’s and has yet to close the case on any of the missing persons from that area. The trailer for the film follows a Blair Witch style that depicts the film as being “true,” and then proceeds to go through the usual horror film routine--fast cuts and loud noises to tighten your spine.

Viral Doctors and the Vaccine

Dr. Abigail Tyler doesn't seem to exist beyond this movie and it's viral websites.

Based on the trailer, the film seems to be a typically fear laden contribution to the abduction mythology. Perhaps we should watch it in tandem with Emerich's 2012 to get our full dose of late capitalist nihilism.

I'd love to see a film about an abductee who is able to overcome the powers that invade his dreams and/or bedroom. The hero then goes on to become a strong and healthy individual with a happy and fulfilling human life while also operating as a transdimensional interstellar shamanic ambassador for humanity to the multiple alien and elemental races within and beyond Earth. Wouldn't that be a cooler film?

Fantastic!

Yes, I agree that would be a MUCH cooler film!  So... why not write the screenplay? ;o)

Have you hugged your enemy today?

Stevie, ok - I'll write it

Stevie, ok - I'll write it if you will as well! It'll certainly be a good exercise for me personally, whether or not Hollywood take it on ;)
