Earth Councils Emerge

Elderslp.jpg

The idea of bringing groups of elders and youth together to participate in collaborative conversations is not a new one. Communities have heard the voices of all members for ages, but in recent years generations have split and segregated themselves from each other. Community Earth Councils are being created by the Utne Institute in the hopes of growing locally based groups where conversations about topics important to all citizens today can be had across generation gaps. The wisdom of elders can work in conjuntion with the innovation of youth.

To launch the gatherings, the Utne Institute, AARP and the Center for Spirituality and Healing present the first Community Earth Council Symposium on November 12, 2008 where the implementation of these project councils will be discussed. Attendees can take advantage of meeting with others from similar geographic locations who have similar passions toward community action.

I hope some good comes out

I hope some good comes out of this. This is right in line with Jim Rough's Wisdom Councils, and the blanket term that Tom Atlee uses to describe the processes that will create a culture of dialogue: Citizens Deliberative Councils.

Keep us posted on this, yeah?
