The Drug Quagmire

Marijuanlp.jpg

As part of a national campaign to raise awareness about drug policy in the United States, the nonprofit group Marijuana Policy Project recently released a short YouTube film entitled "The Drug War in 100 Seconds." Comprised of excerpts from eco-author Michael Pollan's book "The Botany of Desire: A Plant's Eye View of the World" narrated over a backdrop of images of paraphenilia, propaganda and prisoners, the video speaks to the government's fundamentally imbalanced approach to drug legislation - from its disproportionate emphasis on marijuana over more dangerous drugs to the flooding of prisons with nonviolent "criminals" to the threats posed to the Bill of Rights. Yet another example of the futility of engaging in military operations against abstract nouns.

Amazing Book!

>100 next time

Imagining the "War on Drugs" in a literal sense is pretty ridiculous. The idiot pigs behind it try to create an invisible scourge which they must take up arms against, collecting trophies and promotions while generating mountains of ruined lives.

Get the public to focus on a few more seconds on the subject, and I think we're on to something.

just one question....

where do you draw the line???? so should meth and heroine be legal... no?? there are too life consuming... or how about just cocaine but not crack or is that line too blurred.. How about MDMA there really isn't anything wrong with this except depression over the next twenty years or so....

I too believe that drugs should be decriminalized but I have to question if all of them should be decriminalized. your thoughts...

The Union

Below is a link to a really great film about drug prohibition titled "The Union: The business behind getting high." I think it is probabably the best one out there on the subject. Watch it when you get the time. You my find yourself considering legalization/regulation across the board . . . decriminalization still leaves a gap to be filled with the blackmarket.

Obama's Drug Czar Possible

Read about this poor decision here: http://tierneylab.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/08/drug-czar-controversy/

We still may have time to influence this decision.

a war on freedom

All the debate about whether we should legalize or not often misses the most crucial point: WE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO CONTROL OUR OWN BODIES RESPONSIBLY. PERIOD. Anything less is a form of tyranny. But, if you need many more reasons why we should re-legalize cannabis, read this: http://colindonoghue.wordpress.com/2008/10/17/native-americans-hemp-a-ca...
