Digital Democracy

In the most recent video eposide of Post Modern Times, "Web Democracy," Reality Sandwich Publisher Ken Jordan discusses "the forgotten concepts of computers," the power of "self organized" distributed networks, and how the values and visions of transformational communities can catalyze a global movement.
Learning from teachers like Abbie Hoffman and Allen Ginsberg, Ken discusses how the connections that occured at "happenings, parties, and the park" during the 60's are now taking place online. Unfortunately, the "walled garden" of corporate social networks like MySpace and Facebook are designed by a business culture who doesn't have our best interests at heart. Ken discusses the future of the web, along with projects like Reality Sandwich and the upcoming Evolver.net that aim to connect us more while providing new ways for us to "best express ourselves."

well spoken
Thanks for planting seeds and crystallizing things so eloquently. I appreciate learning more about Doug Engelbart, and the web as a "mesh". The motion graphics on that part particularly amplified the meaning for me.
All of these Post Modern Times films are super. Would be great to have even more of them up on YouTube to share/embed.
On the topic of web democracy I just read a report about the Beijing government limiting journalists' access to the web during the Olympics. What do folks here think about that?
I personally tend to believe that web freedom will eventually win out over any government's attempt to limit it, but I don't want to take it for granted and I don't know how bad the situation is in China.
Kudos for putting out a Post Modern Times clip in Mandarin and in Portugese.
