Crop Circle Countdown

On August 12, a crop formation appeared near Alton Barnes. It incorporates the Mayan symbol for "six" -- a line with a dot above it -- within a larger circle. The "dot" contains a ring of thirteen whorls, thought to represent the thirteen months of the Mayan calendar.
This formation seems to be a continuation of the "countdown" theme of crop formations this year. According to the Crop Circle Connector, "a similar symbolism was shown at East Field on July 7, where lunar cycle IV began with a new Moon on August 12, then proceeded for just six days to an approximate 30% lunar phase on August 18, before slowly tapering off into nothing.
"Another related symbolism was shown at Pewsey on August 4, which gave a more precise lunar phase of 32-34% following the next new Moon (midnight August 18 to early morning August 19 GMT)."
Depending on the interpretation, the "dot" of the formation either contains a ring of twelve whorls (the twelve months of the Gregorian calendar) or the twelve outer whorls plus the central whorl for a total of thirteen (the thirteen months of the Mayan calendar). Theorists diverge on whether the current formation points to Saturday, August 18 (six days from August 12) or Wednesday, August 22 (6 Eb in the Tzolk'in).

aug 18 event
As discussed above, crop circle researcher Andy Thomas wrote about several crop circles from 1994 that showed images of the solar system. These images all depicted a particular planetary alignment that was due to occur on a date six years in the future: April 6 - 7, 2000. When that date arrived, it turned out to be a massive solar storm, one of the largest ever recorded. Our scientists have no means for predicting such an event.
The Mayans based much of their calendar on Venus cycles, and Aug 18, 2007, is an inferior Venus/Sun conjunction, and the beginning of a new 260 day cycle on the Tzolkin. According to the text on http://cropcircleconnector.com
"The Sun and Venus are moving towards an inferior conjunction on August 18, thereby ending their current 260-day Sun-Venus calendar, and beginning another. So they could be trying to tell us about that, or maybe something else entirely? In the context of other pictures from 2004 or 2005, this new message seems to represent the continuation of Mayan Sunstone messages from Silbury 2004 and Wayland's Smithy 2005. The latter also coded for a near-future date of August 16-19, 2007 in terms of an ancient 52-year Sun-Venus calendar."Apparently, conclusions of this particular cycle often correspond with epidemics, such as widespread outbreaks of influenza (discussed in the very interesting pages on http://cropcircleconnector.com devoted to this pattern).
The emphasis on this date is very interesting, as it may offer some insight into the larger intention and meaning behind the crop circle phenomenon. Are they a kind of early warning signal? What kind of information are they offering? And how are we meant to react?
As I discussed in my book "2012", a friend of mine had a very strong and unshakeable vision of the Mayan integer for 13 - the number of transformation - while sitting in a new crop circle.
There seem to be very strange and powerful energies moving through our world right now, on multiple levels, from the earthquake in Peru to the unfolding financial meltdown. I would love to know the planetary aspects and transits involved with this moment in time. I have also seen more fights and odd outbursts lately. It feels like some kind of electrical tension is gathering force.
Anyone want to make bets on what tomorrow might bring?

Andy Thomas on solar storm CCs
This is not the first time that crop circles have indicated, emphatically, the importance of an upcoming date. A number of "solar system" crop circles in 1994 pointed toward a date six years in the future, on April 6 - 7, 2000. Crop circle researcher Andy Thomas wrote about this. I have reproduced some of his article below:
http://www.swirlednews.com/article.asp?artID=659
"Using the astronomical computer program ‘Red Shift 3’, Jack discovered that the West Stowell ‘galaxy’ of 1994 clearly showed a conjunction of the planets Mars, Saturn and Jupiter (the three rings) superimposed over a map of the star constellation Cetus (the small standing tufts). A particular phase of the moon (the small crescent) was also depicted. Comparison to star maps showed that this was an alignment which was indeed due to take place in that part of the sky at midnight GMT on the cusp of 6-7th April 2000! The formation’s depiction of this was compacted (to enable it to feature within one circular frame), but irrefutable.
The importance of this date and the accuracy of the interpretation was solidified when Jack Sullivan looked at the other two ‘galaxies’ of 1994 and found that they depicted the same alignment, but from slightly different zoom perspectives and with different emphasis upon individual elements of the charts. Encouraged by such positive results, Jack went on to look at several other past formations in an astronomical light and discovered other plainly predicted dates within their configurations.
…Finally, the night of 6/7th April 2000 arrived… The planetary conjunction itself was considered remarkable enough to make it into the newspapers (which had no knowledge or interest in the galaxy formations). One even carried a story that some believed an unexpected (and, to some, suspicious) computer crash on the English stock markets on 6 April – the first day of the UK’s new ‘tax year’ – might have been caused by an unusual energy configuration generated by the astronomical alignment. Others simply ran stories about the visual beauty of the conjunction, which would not be repeated for over three thousand years.
On the night of 6/7th April 2000, one of the largest solar storms of the century erupted on the Sun, flooding the Earth’s ionosphere with particles and creating the widest sighting of the aurora borealis across the UK and other parts of Europe for many years, usually being restricted to more northern regions (hence its more common name of ‘northern lights’). I was lucky enough to witness this effect as a strange shifting curtain of red light above Alton Barnes.
The solar storm, caused by an enormous flare thrown out by the Sun as it approached its eleven-year peak of sunspot activity, had been measured by some observatories as a G4 event on a scale of 1 to 5 – very big, threatening satellite communications and other electronic systems."

About that tension...
But they can predict solar cycles and intensity
But they can predict solar cycles and intensity, if not specific dates (in response to Daniel's comment below: "Our scientists have no means for predicting such an event.")
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2006/10mar_stormwarning.htm
From the link:
When the belt is turning "fast," it means that lots of magnetic fields are being swept up, and that a future sunspot cycle is going to be intense. This is a basis for forecasting: "The belt was turning fast in 1986-1996," says Hathaway. "Old magnetic fields swept up then should re-appear as big sunspots in 2010-2011." Like most experts in the field, Hathaway has confidence in the conveyor belt model and agrees with Dikpati that the next solar maximum should be a doozy. But he disagrees with one point. Dikpati's forecast puts Solar Max at 2012. Hathaway believes it will arrive sooner, in 2010 or 2011. "History shows that big sunspot cycles 'ramp up' faster than small ones," he says. "I expect to see the first sunspots of the next cycle appear in late 2006 or 2007—and Solar Max to be underway by 2010 or 2011."
Interesting that this comes up...
... as I'd stumbled across the correlation between 2012 and "solar max" when looking for other connections with this much-discussed date. The NASA article you reference definitely caught my eye, as well as this one, which states: "The stronger solar storms could start as early as this year or as late as 2008 and should peak around 2012."
I suppose that, if we do see unusual solar activity in the next days, we can safely assume that there is a direct link between the crop circle messages, Mayan prophecy, and the volatility of our sun.

unusual solar activity on 8/18/07
Not a "storm" but some solar activity was noted on 8/18/07:
"SOLAR ACTIVITY: Several large and beautiful prominences have popped up on the sun today. "What a nice display," says Mark Hanson of the Grenier Solar Observatory in Wisconsin. "This is one of the more active times on the sun's limb over the last 6 months." If you have a solar telescope, take a look!"
More on the 8/18 solar prominence:
SOLAR ERUPTION: Although the sun is near the lowest ebb of its 11-year activity cycle, spectacular eruptions are still possible. NASA's Stereo-A spacecraft recorded one just last week on August 18th. Click on the image to play the 2.2 MB movie:
This is a solar prominence, a cloud of hydrogen held above the surface of the sun by magnetic force fields. Stereo A photographed the prominence just as the magnetic fields became unstable, producing a twisting, spouting eruption large enough to swallow Earth many times over.

Sophia's Advent and August 18
Hello--
I may have missed it in the commentaries on the Stanton St. Bernard crop circle, but there are two other points of interest about the planetary configuration for August 18:
1) Venus's inferior conjunction with the Sun is happening exactly as the Sun enters Leo, and as Venus moves back into Cancer;
2) Venus will be at the same place as it was at the birth of the Virgin Mary. When I first saw the West Kennett circle (reported 7/25), I interpreted the pentagram inside the circle, the Venus symbol, and the crescent moon as a threefold symbol for Sophia, the Divine Feminine. In May 2000, traveling in Wiltshire with the Sophia Foundation of America, our group came upon -- at East Field, near Alton Barnes-- a newly made circle: the Venus pentagram inside a circle. We were delighted to have been greeted so warmly and in such a timely way by Sophia herself, and her elemental helpers!
The Virgin Mary became "Sophia Maria," having in her person incorporated an aspect of Sophia, just as Jesus of Nazareth incorporated into His being the Christ. It seems fitting then that on this day (August 18) when the cosmic configuration calls up the memory of the birth of the Virgin Mary, that the elemental beings of Nature are rejoicing, and have made a series of images for us to meditate upon. Perhaps it is their desire and hope that we begin to fashion a Grail vessel for Sophia's advent, just as they have been doing with their astonishing images in the Wiltshire fields. . .
Best wishes,
Kevin Dann

Bridges
From August 15-21 the Shipibo-Konibo tribe are conducting Merayabo Tsinkitash Rao Jiwiki Bewakani - Shipibo-Konibo Ritual for the Healing of the Master Plants.
The opening of the ritual is on the 17th. On the 18th at 10am begins Ritual at the foot of the Planta Maestra "Shihuahuaco".
This tree is sometimes used to build bridges.
and, interesting about the 2000 solar storm, since Shihuahuaco is sometimes used as an antipyretic, the reduction of fever.
On the 19th is Ritual for the Planta Maestra "Renaco"
Renaco may alow one to be able to travel under the water.
The line and dot, turned 90'cw could resemble a bridge with a sun.
I am ever the optimist. However, with the recent earthquakes and falling bridges, I wouldnt be surprised if a bridge is washed out on that day.
On the other hand, while tragic and deeply saddening, the destruction of such infrastructure may point to a 'universal' way of life, living with the stars, planets, earth and so on. Rather than with concrete, steel and grids.
Yet it feels to me best to help direct and encourgage these powerful synchronicities and energies towards the best possible outcomes.
sure, place your bets on what -may- occur.
Or set your intention on what you would Love to occur.

Tomorrow
Tomorrow will probably bring more rain here in Ireland. It's been raining all summer.
As for solar activity, I cannot say. I am skeptical of the idea crop circles being made by non-human intelligences.
Surely anyone with a passing knowledge of astrology, board, rope, surveying tape and a copy of 'Maya Cosmogenisis' can fool many.
Having said that... a total meltdown on the stock markets on Wendnesday 22nd wouldn't be hard to predict - precipitated by the right astronomical configruration, perhaps.
More rain of course
Hi dna, good to see you here. The rain in Wales has also been curiously relentless this summer. The liberties have risen a month early however, so we do have something to smile about while we shake our umbrellas.
Anyway, you write, "I am skeptical of the idea of crop circles being made by non-human intelligences.
Surely anyone with a passing knowledge of astrology, board, rope, surveying tape and a copy of 'Maya Cosmogenisis' can fool many."
I share your scepticism, and agree with your suggestion about the many fools, but would also ask: where is the division between human and non-human intelligence? Where does inspiration come from? Or to be literary, how can a swan impregnate Leda? This seems to be one of the perennial questions of the Irish and Welsh poets, and I think its no accident that these peoples developed a deeply sophisticated 'fairy' tradition.
If some humans are inspired to invest extraordinary effort and attention in secretively weaving sigils in wheat fields by night, it doesn't necessarily follow that this is therefore a purely human activity.
If I were a naturally gifted poet I might occasionally hear what Yeats called a 'clear articulation in the air,' or what Blake referred to as 'those authors in eternity.' Rilke produced his Duino Elegies and Sonnets to Orpheus out of just such experiences. Are these voices only the unconcious mind of the artist? Prsumably expressing neurotic blindspots to the concious posture? Maybe, but maybe not - maybe the 'voice' of the times speaks through the creative efforts of the psychically sensitive. Could Blake's 'Tyger' be linked to the upsurge of the French Revolution.? Could crop circles be inspired by tricksterish other-dimensional beings (fairies?) who are so deeply in love with creativity that they want us develop our own creatvity via interaction with this curious beautiful blip on the psychic radar?
Experience of shamanic or visionary modes of consciousness seems to suggest that there are more dimensions of being than we are usually able to perceive. It may be that we eventually decide that the crop circles ultimately release no healing mana and therefore are useless to us. In the meantime, I think it may be hasty to shrug them off as obviously not 'non-human intelligence' for reasons sketched out above.
Maybe human intelligence itself exists in more dimensions of space and time than we are as yet able to realise or fulfill.

Sidereal Astrology and the 18th
In sidereal astrology (actual real-time astrology that utilizes the precession of the equinoxes and the physical placement of planets in the sky NOW as opposed to a symbolic wheel) most notably Jyotish or Vedic astrology there is an unusual configuration taking place on the 17th-18th of August.
Venus, Saturn, Sun, Mercury and Ketu (the Southern Lunar Node) are all jammed into sidereal Leo. In hindu astrology this much planetary energy in one house causes an imbalance and they often recommend "gem remedies" to address such issues. I'm not exactly sure if the 18th will introduce a wormhole into a cosmic consciousness or simply the possibility for some of us to "download" new cosmic energy to help us on our journey towards 2012. Maybe Al Gore will finally say he's running for prez ;)
Regardless, I thought it was worth noting that there is a crossover between the crop circles and hindu astrology. Though as far as the Tzolkin goes, I don't see anything particularly awesome about 2 Lamat (the 18th). Two is a divisive but potent energy certainly representing duality. But I would frankly be more inspired to believe in something phenomenal happening on a 13 ascension day, for example.
Nevertheless, there is some strange energy in the air and I did awake two nights ago in the middle of the night in an altered state of consciousness--not drug induced since I don't do drugs--but as disturbing as an acid trip. Alas, who knows? Every day is a marvel, n'est-ce pas?
The bible concurs
Contained within the bible are various calendars announcing events. One such counting follows the pattern of counting 100 lunar days after Passover and arrive at Shavuot (Pentecost). This day landed on 7/23. Next we add 30 days for the new wine offering which lands on 8/23. This is the day that the Sun passes Regulus the "Law Giver" and "child king" of the heavens. All of this occurs in the month of August with five planets retrograde. Furthermore, Venus passed into the Eastern sky to become the morning star and will be visible around 8/23.
Revelation (chapter 2) states that the Morning Star is a sign given to the man-child that is rule the earth with a rod of iron. This date (8/23) is also the 144 solar day after Passover).
Luke 21.25 says that when this happens "men will be fainting from the roaring of the seas and of expectation of things about to come on them".
Perhaps a by product of the five planets jammed into siderial Leo.
Very Interesting Blog Post about Crop Circles
I know that I play the skeptic on this matter of crop circles, but I thought I might share this with you. It is a very interesting blog in general and all the articles are print quality.

What about it?
What about it? - I mean, it's an isolated event. I suppose I'd be looking for perturbations in the affairs of humans, but you could be on to something.
Deutsche Bank fire at ground zero?
That certainly has an odd resonance.

From the link:
"The Fire Department is investigating whether a malfunctioning standpipe sent water cascading into the basement of the flaming Deutsche Bank tower at ground zero on Saturday, denying water to air-starved firefighters battling the seven-alarm blaze above, including the two men who were killed.
Members of Engine Company 7 said they connected their hose to the standpipe and pumped thousands of gallons into the building, but one investigator said yesterday that the water never made it beyond the fifth floor, leading to suspicions of a cracked or broken valve. The basement, officials said, was filled with water."

Yes???
i agree
Hi John,
I agree. While there are lots of insane events taking place now (the global financial meltdown, Peru earthquake, Hurricane Dean, etc), none of these seem to match the spectacular indications that crop circle researchers found pointing to last weekend.
However, the phenomenon has often seemed to enjoy playing with people's perceptions and predictions, and to work by indirection. Perhaps we will learn more in the days and weeks ahead.

Also, not to get carried away or anything, but "Volcano erupts in east Indonesia."
Oh, and and what are we supposed to make of this, or (sadly) this?
Well, I agree too!
I think our problems (including the geopolitical scene) are all due to a fundamental craziness deriving from separation from nature. After reading your latest book, Daniel, I feel that even more strongly (re: our stupid calendar, etc.). But even with this realization, the will toward transformation, the yearning for wholeness, is so damned strong that it can cause one to look for "answers" anywhere they may be found. The hardest thing of all is to change our own selves, open up our individual channels of perception, allow new states of being, etc. etc. If some kind of cosmic monitor would only crank me up to "11," how much easier that would be.
I also very much agree with both of you about indirection. It occurs to me that an extra-terrestrial or extra-dimensional intelligence might exhibit no properties we associate with the term. Realizing this, "indirection" may be unavoidable or intentional, to nudge us from our blind side. In any case, the most stunning changes in my own life have come from what I can only call grace. An inner awakening to "something more" than what I had before. Maybe that's where all of this is heading, on a planetary scale.
This Web site goes a long way toward opening things up, and kudos to you both. I personally find the latest crop circle information quite compelling, too, so keep it coming.
and I agree with YOU, John!
"Yes" to all you wrote.
For me, the crop circle phenom is one of the single most comforting developments in recent years. I may not understand their purpose or meaning, but they are a gift.
Did you ever read Jacques Valee's books? His thoughts on the UFO phenomenon include not only the possibility of misdirection but also of deception. Sheesh, as if we don't have enough to wade through.
Well- enough philosophizing for the evening. The dog needs to go out.
Plenty of possibilities
Hi John,
I think it's just as important to keep track of the "failed" predictions as it is the successful ones, so I don't think deletion is an appropriate action. I agree with you that we often look to outside agencies for things we need to do ourselves, but I don't think there's anything wrong in keeping an eye on those outside agencies -- as long as we're doing our own work as well.
Given Dean Radin et al's impressive scientific research into the effect of group thought, I often wonder whether "warnings" that pass by unremarkably only do so because so many people were warned and think about it beforehand. Obviously, one cannot prove a negative, and we don't have the kind of technology to prove this kind of definitive cause and effect, but it's an interesting theory.
It's entirely plausible, too, that the crop circles are clear communiques that we are completely misinterpreting, or we're understanding the gist but missing one or two key things to make it all fit into place.
On a personal note, I'm still struggling with my reaction to some of the photographs of this formation -- upon seeing people inside the "dot" of the formation, I had a very strong sense that they should not have been in there. I didn't have any such feeling when seeing people in the line or the surrouning circle, nor have I ever had that feeling when viewing any of the thousands of formation photos I've looked at over the years. Obviously, this isn't objective enough for me to do much of anything with it, but I'm intrigued by my own gut reaction at the very least.
delete not!
Of course you are right about where the responsibility for change rests. Still, speaking as one who is "trudging the road to happy destiny", and finding it increasingly hard work, indeed, I'm grateful that the issue of an "outside" agency for change has been raised.
Through youth and early middle-age, I believed that "I" was the only change agent needed in my life. I also believed that the application of my will, my intellect, my strength of character could be pooled with like-minded others to change society. Save the world? No problemo to the younger version of me and my amigos, sipping coffee and smoking cigarettes into the wee hours of the night in college and later in cafes in Jerusalem, Seattle or wherever. Like most here, I'm sure, we knew that a profound change in the consciousness of some indeterminate number of souls had to occur fast. The tipping point, hundreth monkey- whatever you call it- who couldn't feel that we were in a race.
But speaking only for myself- and perhaps a few exhausted and much older friends: "Who knew?"
Who the hell knew it would be this hard? That so many who walked beside you in the early days would give up, and that those who did not would face pressures unimaginable to the youngsters we must have been.
Raising one's own consciousness, opening to the truth of our lives, loving and forgiving ourselves and others and meeting our Creator is frigging hard work when you are not following conventional, well-trod paths. Doing so in a world that is actively hostile to this work has been, for me, often lonely and isolating. And in those moments of despair, of Dark Nights, when I feel no connection whatsoever to the Creator and doubt I ever will again............
I want the world to fall apart. For the inhumane intstitutions and governments and materialism that has hurt countless billions to be destroyed by earthquake, asteroid or Moby effing Dick. Others might long for non-human rescuers or "Ascended Masters" or,...well, pick your poison.
I'm not as strong or as smart or as spiritually gifted as I thought I was when I was 19 or 29 or even 39. In those moments of weakness and exhaustion, I want what I reject destroyed and I care not how.
And then I stop. Or someone I love and admire or a "stranger" I am connected to only on the God-given-internet pulls me back. Reminds me that I'm just a normal human being, that I'm trying, that I'm discouraged in this moment but that I may not be tomorrow morning.
And so, thank you, whoever it was that was honest and humble enough to say that you sometimes wish for this, too. Thanks for this discussion, Daniel.
From the desert in Arizona, where it's still 102 degrees at midnight, good night:)
News
Just because it isn't in the news, doesn't mean it didn't happen. Who would report the "tipping point" if we crossed it? What if the "tipping point" was good news, like some kind of subtle subliminal spiritual attunement?
I've been examining my fascination with the possibility of massive transformation, a.k.a. "the apocalypse". What it boils down to, of course, is my dissatisfaction with the state of the world as it is.
In 2001 there was an irreverent party girl from south Florida living in the apartment downstairs. Just before Thanksgiving of that year we had an all-building party and in the middle of a conversation she blurted out, "I loved September 11th! I think we should have one every month! I just loved all the brouhaha and activity! It broke up the routine of everything..."
Did anybody see the Wide Angle documentary called "Gaza E.R." on PBS? As I was watching it a part of me kept fighting the impression that the Palestinians seemed to be enjoying themselves... shooting their AK's into the air, receiving dignitaries from the U.N., strutting around, praying for martyrdom... I get the same impression when I see footage of U.S. Marines in Iraq. The sanitized television version always looks kind of fun in a perverse way. Pacifist that I am, I have to confess that I love target shooting with powerful handguns.
In the meantime I'll hope that the next big "news" is definitive proof that crop circles are indeed created for us by some benevolent cosmic intelligence, teaching us how to weave such beauty into our world.
could you ask for anything more?
Earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, volcanoes.
If everything has an equal and opposite reaction... then there must be some earth-shattering, consciousness-flooding things going on.
Part of what these formations and indications are telling us is that there actually and truly some amazing things occuring all the time. Of incredible magnitude.
Yet many are tuned into (and turning on) the destruction and horror.
Part of what we can do is decide upon and present eruptions of beauty, whirlwinds of amazement.
In other words, what's the opposite of 9/11? What is the opposite of an earthquake?
A sign, like a 'stop sign', a crop circle- isn't necessarilly a thing that one is supposed to fixate upon, per se. It is usually something that tells one to slow down and take a look around before proceeding further.
Perhaps a crop circle is the opposite of a hurricane?
Equal and opposite reactions, you say?
Absolutely! And thank you so much for the reminder, Morgan.

Venus and the Maya
I'm catching this post on August 21, a few days past the anticipated "due date" of August 18th. However, I think it's worth pointing out that the circle’s appearance date (August 12th), in addition to being the date of the new moon, is also roughly the date that Venus’s visibility as an evening star ended. Venus then reached inferior conjunction with the sun on August 18th, and then will make its first appearance as a morning star on August 22nd or 23rd.
If the Maya numeral “six” in the crop circle is intended as a countdown indicator, then one must know at what date to begin counting. Obviously, it could be August 12th, the circle’s appearance date. But if the timing of the appearance is related to the Venus events in August, one could logically begin the count at August 18th or even the date of its first appearance as morning star. Both of these times can be seen as symbolic starting points in Venus’s 584-day synodic cycle.
Maya lore on Venus is quite interesting, and has been explored in depth by author Bruce Scofield. For one view on what’s happening this month, see the article “Venus Switches from Evening Star to Morning Star - Hold on to your Hat.” It can be found at:
http://www.onereed.com/journal/archives/00000008.php
There has been quite a bit of creativity shown in the application of Mayan calendar theory to explain this circle, and in many ways, it has served as a kind of rorschach of the month. As Daniel Pinchbeck wisely points out, some time may need to pass before its meaning becomes apparent to us.
Jaques Vallee and Synchronicities
I'd agree with those who have suggested that it's hasty to say "nothing happened." I had a number of disturbing and intense encounters which would seem to be connected to the peculiar planetary arrangement. The crop circle, and attendant discussion, drew my attentions to the planets, and gave me a tool for understanding what happened.
At one point in my wacky weekend I was harrangued in the village square by the local alcoholic/schizophrenic lapsed preacher, whose prophetic enthusiasm, alighting on me, detailed specific personal advice about some of my private concerns. His last words to me, when I managed to extricate myself, were, "but its all in the planets and you kow it already." Weirdo.
