Crisis and Opportunity

Humanity currently faces its greatest challenge as a species, and up to this moment, we have not been up to the task. That challenge is accelerating global warming. We approach a point of no return, and we need to make a rapid change of direction to avert catastrophe. As 21 scientists just wrote in Nature, "Averting a planetary-scale critical transition demands global cooperation to stem current global-scale anthropogenic forcings.”

Now, where is that cooperation going to come from? Governments have shown they are incapable of making a transition. Corporations are wedded to the profit motive, and must maximize value for their shareholders, even if this endangers the environment and accelerates global warming. As Bill McKibben writes in the new issue of Rolling Stone, we require a global movement of civil society to bring about this transition. We will need to radically transform our civilization so that the use of fuel and resources is reduced by a large degree, while we develop techniques for ecological restoration – such as permaculture and bioremediation – and apply them on a global scale.

To bring about this evolution in social practices and change of direction, we will need to bring about a rapid transformation of human consciousness on a planetary scale. This change is already taking place to a significant degree: We saw it with the sudden blossoming of the Occupy movement, which dissipated under the pressure of government repression. New forms of social media are allowing for a rapid exchange of information and ideas, leading to a global awakening that is political and, also, spiritual.

In order to answer this call, we started The Evolver Network our nonprofit initiative, in 2009. All over the world, people are realizing that the system we have inherited is hurtling us toward destruction. They are seeking alternatives. Our local Evolver groups are living, learning laboratories where people come together to explore the critical issues of our time and define solution-based approaches to them.

To build this initiative for civil society, we need your support. If a small percentage of the people who follow Evolver and Reality Sandwich become monthly contributors to The Evolver Network, we will have the resources we need to support our community infrastructure and undertake new programs, as well as local initiatives.

Please visit our new website (www.EvolverNetwork.org) where you can learn about what we have accomplished up to this point.

Thank you for paying attention!

eh?

" We saw it with the sudden blossoming of the Occupy movement, which dissipated under the pressure of government " Daniel, whitewashing the vandalism, trashing of public and private places, intimidation, and in your face rudeness many occupiers had for other people is beneath you. The only thing that blossomed out of the Occupy movement was the fear mongering filth of society rearing their ugly heads to try and start a Che style rebellion where life and limb is sacred to nobody. You'll have to excuse me for disagreeing with your rose colored analysis. because I value civility and property I am defending the police and government from stopping this incoherent mob from committing further pillage and terror (see what happened in Oakland). Evolver can be a great movement, but if you choose to identify with a mob of nihilists I won't give one red cent.

Occupy Has Worked

Nice story.

Occupy worked.

It worked when it first happened.

Occupy was able to push issues like the aftermath of the 08 bailout to the forefront of politics

It drew focus upon the moves from coroporate banks like BOA

who, sought to pass the buck on to the shoulders of it's customers

People rose up and moved their Money to Credit Unions.

Occupy drew attention to the rising student debt that exists in America today

Where getting a college education, for many, means going into deep debt

To come out of school and see an increasingly shrinking job market.

Occupy worked and continues to work in the realm of illegal home foreclosures

When banks, and other financial lending institutions, went into "robo-sign" mode, causing many to lose their homes, Occupy began to step in.

The Mainstream Corporate run Media did a fantastic job at seeking to ignore, then bad jacket much of Occupy.

For those people who never stepped foot into an Occupy encampment, nor taken part in any of it's events, it makes some sense to me that he or she may be on guard about Occupy.

However, as our cities become more militarized, and the only people standing up and saying anything about it get framed through the media as wild, unkept, radicals. The country continues to struggle. The military is still the ultimate beneficient from all forms of social chaos.

Occupy Worked, and Still is Working

Because is also part of a lineage of social justice movements in the US and the world.

When the powers that be don't do right by the everyday person

The everyday person is compelled to practice his or her constitutional rights

to make public greviance.

Daniel

Let me clarify; I understand that the financial situation in the USA was caused both by big government and unethical business in the same bed together. The Federal Reserve IS an out of control monster. However, the solution is NOT to aggregate into angry mobs then only instill fear and chaos. Occupy lacked the one primary value that would have made it more successful; civility.-and it was an anger based reaction instead of a love based pro-action. I think that it can be agreed that "99%" of us would like honesty and freedom in deciding our own individual financial affairs, stripped of a corrupt monolithic economic system, but we CAN'T get there by adopting practices that instill fear, anger, or violence against our fellow humans. Evolver has an awesome opp. to avoid these pitfalls....will they? MORE LOVE, LESS SPITE.

the sun

this is a complex issue yes?!

So many perceptual angles...our use of resources could really be re-evaluated, I agree that we need to completely turn things around and be sustainable, heal ourselves and the planet, be the guardians of the earth rather than over consuming rapists, but there is definitely something fishy going on with this global warming biz, and I am in the camp that thinks that the sun activity/sunspots are having a lot to do with why the earth is heating up. I have come across information claiming that other planets in the solar system are heating up, is this invalid?

And as far as environmental catastrophes being "caused by global warming" are concerned, with the existence of HAARP, it seems that geological mishaps can and will be deliberately created, so when something disastrous does occur, hurricanes, ternaders, earthquakes...it's an "I don't know" area for me. HAARP......ugggghhhhhhh...

There is one thing undeniable, we are becoming more unified as a planet.  This can be something healthy if we awaken quickly and shake off our "masters".  This is where transformation of consciousness comes in (actually becoming conscious, waking from a loooong slumber.)

The very idea of us becoming united as a more peaceful planetary civilization can be and is being hijacked by elite psychos who would use our hopes AGAINST us to trick us into creating a global dystopia, and the reactions to irresponsible use of resources/global warming (desires for a more loving/conscious relationship with the earth) are being hijacked by malicious power to be used as a means to an end.....the end of freedom, the funding of our enslavement with carbon tax.... let us not be decieved!

The rapid transformation of political/spiritual consciousness, if powerful enough, will end the reign of the parasites, the banking cartel for example.

And in response to onetrilliondiamonds...often (but not always) agents of discord are sent in to pose as protesters....by the very structures that are being protested, to catalyze violence...and the media focuses on that aspect to discredit everyone in one fell swoop...and you seem to fall for it somewhat.

I am all for green ways, clean energy and responsibility to the earth, I just feel our real challenge as a species right now is not necessarily global warming but awakening enough to accept something which makes us truly, truly uncomfortable as a valid reality to be dealt with immediately. The reality that there is a malevolent power on this earth which sees us as cattle and takes pleasure in creating misery.

We need to STAND UP FOR OURSELVES, take our power back,  or the transformation of society will be something absolutely hideous.

I'm talking about global fascism, which when personified, is pretending to care about the planet via the global warming issue and using that to hoodwink us into accepting the presence of authority infiltrating our daily existence more than ever as a matter of course, another road to take us there.

Very interesting times, these are.

Global Warming = Hoax

Catchy subject line? Who knows whether the Medieval Warm Period was globally warmer than current conditions or not, but the term 'Global Warming', or even 'Climate Change', seems to me to be part of the ongoing bid to control the collective symbolic reasoning of the human race. I am all for disentangling from the establishment/going off the grid, a byproduct of which is the necessity of sustainable practices, but let's drop the Al Gore bullshit.

"Averting a planetary-scale critical transition demands global cooperation to stem current global-scale anthropogenic forcings.”

And doesn't this seem a bit too much like centralization-of-power rhetoric?

Probably not the best time to try to articulate a point, as I'm semi-hynagogic, but ta, darlings.
