9/11 Anniversary Healing

Join us on September 11th, 2011 as we commemorate the 9/11 tragedy with a free public meditation event, held in the spirit of love and healing. People of all faiths are invited to join members of The Interdependence Project, the Shambhala Center, the Jewish Meditation Center of Brooklyn, The Village Zendo, Won Buddhism of Manhattan, Buddhist Peace Fellowship, and other NYC meditation and spiritual communities. Some of New York’s leading meditation teachers, including Acharya Judy Leaf and Alison Laichter, will provide guided instruction throughout the day.
Together, we will open our hearts to all people affected by this tragedy, and wish for the well-being of all who have brought compassion and peace to our city over the past decade. To support this intention, we will practice a Loving-kindness (Metta) contemplation that generates love within one's self and gradually extends it outwards to others.
This free event will take place from 11am-4pm on Sunday, September 11th 2011 at the Parade Grounds on Governor’s Island – an open outdoor space with a view of lower Manhattan, and a 15 minute ferry ride from downtown. (We will have the Shambhala Center as an alternative location, in case of rain.) Participants may arrive and leave at any point during the event, but an RSVP to joshua@theidproject.org is recommended so that we can plan appropriately.
Note: We will be serving some light refreshments throughout the day, but participants are encouraged to bring a lunch.
Note to Organizations: If you would like your group to become an official co-sponsor, we request a donation between $50 - $99 to help cover insurance and administrative fees. Donations of volunteers and meditation cushions are also welcome. For teachers who want to provide instructions during the event, please contact Patrick@theIDProject.org .
