Barbara Traub's Burning Man Photography

Barbara Traub first started photographing Burning Man sights and scenes in 1994, just a few years after the event started occurring annually in the Black Rock Desert. What started as a “new” and “ideal” project for her to work on, according to Traub, became the inspiration and subject matter behind her book “Desert to Dream: A Decade of Burning Man Photography,” published in 2006. Traub was recently featured in a video interview by Time Magazine, which focused on her work including photographs from a decade of her journeys to the festival often described as “a fantasy land for adults.” A classic shot of the Burning Man’s iconic shadow stretched out across the playa beside a black speaker box with the backdrop of a violet-blue sky is on the cover of her book--a shot from her first year there.
