In 1900, 43 percent of U.S. medical schools taught homeopathy. When the American Medical Association formed in 1847, homeopathy gained the label of "quackery" from doctors who rejected the idea that a person's illness was uniquely individual, and disliked the fact that its remedies were inexpensive.
