The Red Herring of Astrology

fortunetellerre.jpeg

All "factual science" to the mystic is perhaps something more like art or music: there is reason and symmetry and structure and form, but each and every "fact" is only a signpost pointing toward the ineffable. (more)

The Risky Music of Psychedelic Spirituality

adamthumb.jpg

Psychedelics expose us to a particular set of metaphysical assumptions. But even the most vivid visions are just passing symbols. However "true" the psychedelic experience is, it's a reality as full of risk as any other. The largest risk is that of religious delusion (more)

Ayahuasca Versus Daime: The Medicine of Yin and Yang

yinyangre.jpegThroughout the past decade of working with ayahuasca, I've often thought of South American shamanism and the Santo Daime variety of shamanism as the yin and yang of the medicine world. (more)

Love Is No Big Truth

moonthumb.jpg

What if love is no big truth? What if there are two primary and simple desires wrapped into every love story or romantic escapade: the desire to lose ourselves and fuse with the source, and the desire to become ourselves and separate from the source? (more)

Spiritual is Religious?

uranusthumb.jpg

Many people who call themselves "new agers" like to say "I'm spiritual not religious." But what if there is no difference between the two? Why is everyone so reluctant to admit that they might be religious, and where does the urge to separate the two come from anyway? (more)

Psilocybin Therapy Documentary

adammushroom.png

In 2008, I met a psilocybin and cancer therapist and my life changed. Now there is a documentary film called The Medicine: Science and Psychedelics. It depicts psilocybin as a form of palliative end-of-life care.  I sat down with producer and director Roslyn Dauber to discuss the film and to help promote these important psychedelic research projects. The Astrology of Super Storm Sandy

subwayfloodre.jpeg

The day after Super Storm Sandy hit the east coast, the Nightlight Astrology School hosted an Astrology "Storm Panel." After listening to what several of our guest astrologers had to say, and after looking closely at the planetary transits during the storm, there are more than a few solid reasons we have to believe this will not be the last major event before the end of this calendar year. No Such Thing as Source?

cyclic.grid-6x2.jpg

Lately I've been fascinated by the idea that there is no such thing as an original source energy, no awakening to oneness or singularity that we are returning to, and no evolution toward any spiritual destiny. What if these ideas were merely the psychic residue of displaced religious dogmas and an outdated scientific model of the universe? (more)

Earthquake 2012

1346941016-earthquake-in-costa-rica-kills-one_1427749.jpg

Last week while working on my new book in Costa Rica I was creatively awakened by a 7.6 level earthquake and several days of significant aftershocks. The awesome quake spoke a language of its own, not unlike that of plant medicine. (more)

The Sikh Temple Shootings and Daemonic Possession

20120807_sikh-vigil_33.jpg

This Summer in the USA we've now witnessed our second public shooting spree.  A Sikh temple in Oak Creek Wisconsin became the target for another attack.  In a broader, evolutionary context these attacks aren't about darkness or evil as much as they are about daemonic possession. (more)

Ayahuasca Addiction and the Ego

paradiselostthumb.jpg

I've altered my state of consciousness many times, and listened to a lot of talk about "ego death" and reaching the higher self. But many of us who take psychedelics regularly are altered-state addicts, and the ego is actually a beautiful thing. (more)

Mars, Neptune and Orgasm Addiction: Holding and Sharing Your Sexual Energies

adamorgthumb.jpg

Many of my clients have questions about why their relationships haven’t lasted or what they need to change about themselves in order to “be ready” for their soul mate. Although no two astrology charts and no two people are alike, if I had to point my finger at one relationship-destroying culprit, I would feel confident blaming what I call “orgasm addiction.” (more)

Astrology, Ayahuasca, and Reincarnation

past-life-regression_sign.jpg

You can visit a psychic shop in any big city and be told about your past lives: you were famous, you lost someone you loved. But the best past life regressions are like very sobering parables; they leave us with a feeling of freedom and of the multi-dimensionality of time and space. My first happened almost a year ago. The New Age Pentecost

Evolution: A Story from the Stars

9940415.jpg

From an astrological point of view the entire 2012 movement can be seen as a warning from the creative unconsciousness of the human soul. The lesson or the goal of this astrologically based cultural movement (Mayan or otherwise) has always been the same: let's produce less fate and create more free will. (more)

Star Crossed Lovers

romeothumb.jpg

In my first year as an astrologer the most relentless question I've fielded in over 500 sessions has been "When will I meet my soul mate?" Astrology has always had a lot to say on the subject of love. The answers aren't always what people want to hear but they are almost always what people need to hear. (more)

Lonely the King

prometheusthumb.jpg

As we enter the Age of Aquarius it's tempting to declare the tyrant King dead, the age of the Guru finished, and the dawn of the people upon us. It's at this critical moment that we must understand that every cosmic age is engaged in a healthy conversation with its archetypal opposite. (more)

New Age Fundamentalism

jesus-photos-cosmic.jpg

Growing up in the evangelical church and studying ayahuasca the past six years, I've seen how religious doctrines can turn into roadblocks in our relationship to God and each other. The new age movement is a young, innovative religious development on the planet, and we can avoid the trap of fundamentalism if we carefully study its implied doctrines. (more)

300 Souls: Notes from a Young Astrologer

hermesthumb.jpg

In Greek mythology the way to invoke a bad fate is to show hubris. Modern hubris is nothing more than investing too much energy into unexplored assumptions. The more we get to know our assumptions the more that fate, and time and space itself, become malleable. The work of creation becomes cooperative. The word becomes flesh. (more)

Since Neptune’s discovery in 1846 and the first major drilling of oil in 1848, we have become aware of the evolution of consciousness. As Neptune completes its first full transit cycle since 1846, oil is on the way out and the Internet is in full force. So what's next? (more)
